Endless Adventures Await TVA’s public lands and waters offer endless opportunities to stretch your legs, raise your heart rate or simply be one with nature. The Tennessee Valley is a special place, anchored by the Tennessee River – in some places, a wide, meandering giant and in others a narrow torrent through a scenic gorge. When TVA was formed in 1933, we began the business of changing the landscape to stop massive flooding and provide much-needed power. This strategy created man-made lakes (reservoirs) TVA uses to store water. A beneficial by-product of creating these lakes is the vast and varied recreational opportunities they provide across the seven-state region. This book is a guide to finding your own personal adventure – be it a lazy paddle trip, a challenging bike ride or a fruitful expedition to a favorite fishing spot. Using the maps and online resources, you can choose a quick day trip close to you or plan a weekend getaway. Inside you’ll find colorful historical facts, information about wildlife you may encounter and regional recreational highlights to help you plan your best outings. Thank you for visiting TVA’s public spaces! We’re glad to offer these opportunities for all to enjoy. Please follow the rules and enjoy nature responsibly to ensure these one-of-a-kind opportunities are around to inspire adventures for many, many years to come! Want more?
