Challenge Convent Wisdom.

To understand who we are and where we are going is to appreciate and embrace the entrepreneurial spirit that has guided us for more than a century. Our motto — without risk, there is no gain — means something here. It is a series of risks that got TU to where it is today — and it is risk that will continue to propel TU forward.

ONLY BY WAY OF EXAMPLE CAN WE BE SO BOLD AS TO INSPIRE YOU TO JOIN US IN EMBRACING THIS MINDSET. This is not a rallying cr y to ignore wise counsel, confront authority or even disregard best practices. Rather, these are deep-seated convictions we uphold as true and strive to live out. Here you will find that TU is more than the sum of its parts; it is greater than the promise of a higher education. It is a caring and nurturing crossroads: it represents the intersection of who you’ve been and who you will become. And in due time you, and every TU student, will come to realize that ...

WITHOUT RISK THERE IS NO GAIN. What makes us different is the way we have intentionally chosen to approach this thing called “college,” with an uncommon focus on opportunity, practicality, teaching and mentoring, and belonging.

Cassie Eschweiler | Lakewood, Ohio Law Enforcement and Accounting ‘17, MBA ‘19 “Tiffin University provides students the ability to get involved in athletics, the music department, Greek Life, and a variety of campus organizations. Through these organizations, students have the potential to discover their interests, find their career path, meet someone in their desired career field, obtain an internship, and maybe even a job (I know that for a fact, TU hired me). There are so many possibilities for a student that start by simply being able to attend an institution such as Tiffin University.”

David Selnick | Vice Provost & Dean School of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences “Because of the support of my parents and my wife, I was able to fulfill my dream of a career in the US Air Force— but not everyone is as fortunate to have someone who believes in them like that. That’s why I went into teaching after the military, and that’s what we do here at Tiffin University. If you have a goal, and you’re willing to work hard, we’re going do everything we can to help you achieve your dreams. I did it, and you can, too.”

#EMBRACETHECHALLENGE

This is your opportunity. Seize it.

“Tiffin University helped me succeed. The endless amount of opportunities I was given has afforded me the chance to make a difference on campus and in the community. I established strong relationships with my professors and gained a deeper understanding of my academics in a small classroom setting.”

If that resonates with you, if it ref lects your story, too — in the classroom, with regard to your athletic competitiveness, and in the pursuit of your dreams — then know that right here, at Tiffin University, your opportunity awaits.

The r e’s s om e t h i n g ab out b e i n g underestimated — or perhaps overlooked — that steadies your resolve. Our stor y is one of g r it a nd dete r m i n at ion , of ove rcom i n g insurmountable odds with a desire to prove the naysayers wrong. Collectively there is a feistiness in us Dragons that cannot be ignored, a can-do attitude that becomes contagious. Embracing an underdog’s mentality is what gives us a desire to never give up and meet the toughest challenges head-on to get things done. Just like us, these are the attributes that employers desire.

TIFFIN UNIVERSITY

We are a university and staff, a faculty and student body, that revels in the opportunity to do what others think cannot be achieved.

WE ARE A LEADER IN BUSINESS EDUCATION AND WE’RE NOT AFRAID TO TAKE CALCULATED RISKS. WE BUILT A BUSINESS SIDE TO THE MUSIC PROGRAM, TO COMMERCIALIZE IT AND BRING A PRACTICAL ELEMENT ALONGSIDE PERFORMANCE. THAT’S WHAT TU IS ALL ABOUT. —John Millar, PhD., Professor of Management, Dean Emeritus

SOME PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS:

TIFFIN UNIVERSITY

We don’t see ourselves in competition with private liberal arts colleges, research institutions or large land grant schools. That’s because we’re a different kind of university, one built on practicality and focused on programs that provide a valuable return on investment toward employment or a stepping stone to a graduate degree. We know our strengths and what we’re best at, and we invest in opportunities that have real-world benefit to our students who are destined to become graduates and working professionals.

TU Cinema – Students have unlimited access to 200+ movies, 120 new releases and 10 seasons of TV shows for all on-campus students.

#TUTEACHES

Professionals who teach. Your best instruction will come from those who practice what they teach and have a pulse on shifting workforce realities. At TU, that’s every faculty member. Our instructors come here to teach because they want to share their knowledge with the next generation of thinkers and doers — now. While all are well-schooled with many carrying advanced degrees, it’s the on-the-job perspective that makes them subject matter experts. Their experiences and connections parlay into knowledge that goes far beyond textbooks and theory.

TIFFIN UNIVERSITY

I can’t think of a better way to give back than to share my work expertise. TU allows me to bring my 7 years of experience with workplace realities and challenges in the classroom— and there’s no substitute for that kind of insight.

PERFORMING ARTS

TIFFIN UNIVERSITY

From athletes, artists and entrepreneurs, to international students and those from urban, suburban and smalltown settings, we are actively building the most unique and diverse community in the rural heartland of Ohio.

#CCUATTU

Intentionally CrossInstead of making college a four-year retreat from the real world, we’re tackling global realities daily.

Currently our international students come from 35 countries across the globe, which is unheard of for a school our size. But just as we openly welcome students from around the world to our campus, we also invite every student to see a different part of the world and broaden their intellectual and cultural curiosity. Any junior and senior in good academic standing can elect to study abroad and immerse themselves in study and cultural appreciation in a number of countries representing every continent. This robust cultural exchange has led us to create Celebrating Cultural Uniqueness — a set of globally diverse competencies that are woven into our general education curriculum. Not only must we fulfill our mission by linking knowledge to professional practice, we believe being proactive and intentional in equipping all students for success in a diverse world strengthens understanding and acceptance while sharpening their competitive edge.

Today’s employers look for culturally attuned individuals with interpersonal skills, life skills and cultural competencies and at Tiffin University, students will experience an academic curriculum that prepares them for these specialized 21st century competencies. At TU we Celebrate Cultural Uniqueness (CCU) as this is our response to diversity and inclusion so much so that our core curriculum classes reflect inclusive theory and practice and prepares students to think critically, communicate and engage collaboratively, apply problemsolving skills and solve complex challenges with and for diverse teams. Through these core classes, we provide workforce-ready advantages for our students that address today’s professional challenges no matter what the organizational type, by infusing them into classroom and laboratory learning. We have collaborated with businesses and professionals to provide hands-on, experiential learning that produces graduates with the technical know-how and interpersonal skills to succeed. These essential skills will prepare you to be an innovative contributor and leader in the workplace.

Find your lane. Then excel. For 130 years, we’ve been schooling students in the art of succeeding at business — and business represents a part of what we do best. To be excellent means you can’t be all things to all people. You have to know your lane. Across our three schools are defined pathways where our students can excel in business, criminal justice, the sciences or the arts — and we put all of our energy into making these programs extraordinary.

The School of Arts and Sciences provides the backbone for critical thinking on social, cultural and technological advancements affecting work and society. More than an understanding of the arts and sciences, there is a call upon students and faculty alike to thoughtfully affect change regarding the future of every discipline.

TIFFIN UNIVERSITY

The School of Business is the only school in the U.S. to be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP) and European Council for Business Education (ECBE). It is among the earliest pioneers of distance and online learning.

As a member of the Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence, TU offers unparalleled experiences, including national security events such as the 2017 Maritime Risk Symposium.
