25 YEARS OF IMPACT

2019-2020 ANNUAL REPORT

1995

In 1995, a group of determined community members saw the growing need to serve the vulnerable in our community. The Community Coalition on Homelessness was formed.

THE BEGINNING IT ALL STARTED IN ONE ROOM. Over the past 25 years, Turning Points has expanded and evolved to meet the needs of the community we serve. We dug our roots a little deeper each year to tackle the most difficult barriers the vulnerable in our community face. 1995 Community Coalition on Homelessness Corp founded. 2003 Day Resource Center created to fulfill the basic daily needs of the homeless. 2009 The two-acre campus opened at our current location at 701 17th Ave West with the addition of a free Medical and Dental Clinic.

One staff member providing housing and utility assistance eventually grew to a staff of 30 on a 2.5 acre campus, providing a magnitude of essential programs to the vulnerable in Manatee County.

WHERE WE ARE NOW WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY. 2013 Medical and Dental Clinic expanded and the building next door was purchased and renovated into a donation center. 2014 The Yellow Ribbon Program, which serves Veterans in need, was implemented. 2017 The free Eye Clinic opened.

But we are far from done. With the lessons we’ve learned thus far, we will continue to look for smarter ways to further integrate our work in a seamless, intentional and impactful way. We continue to grow - not for growth’s sake - but to embrace and pursue our mission, and to provide more opportunities for our community members to attain self-sufficiency and achieve great futures. A VETERAN'S STORY "WISH I CAN HAVE MORE TENANTS LIKE HIM." Charles is an Army Veteran who was homeless for 5 years. A blemish on his record from 30 years ago held him back from achieving safe housing and from moving forward with his life. He met with representatives from our Yellow Ribbon Veterans Program to work through his challenges. Our case managers listened to him and created a plan for success. They found a compassionate landlord who wanted to work with Charles and give him a chance.

Charles is now... Stably housed for the past 2 years. Happily married. Part of the leadership at a local Bradenton church. Works maintenance jobs for his landlord. His landlord stated, "Wish I can have more tenants like him." A thriving member of our community.
