A lively city in PRIDE P
ride is everywhere in Bilbao and Bizkaia. Thanks to these values, it is already the greatest friendly destination on the Atlantic Arc and one of the fastest growing destinations every year. Bilbao Pride, with its original floating parade, has become an essential date on the European circuit, taking place this year from 20 to 23 June 2019. Fancy a ride on the river passing by the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum while partying in a spectacular event for diversity? At Bilbao Pride you can, thanks to UrParade, a river parade with dozens of boats that you just shouldn't miss. The extensive four-day programme also includes outdoor shows with the best international and local talent, culture, gastronomy, street entertainment and a complete Off Pride agenda in the city's venues. Set your dates and come to Bilbao to celebrate the pride of being who you are and loving as you want.
! Inclusive and authentic Enjoy the most original proposals within the programme such as Family Pride; a leisure space for families of all kinds and children of all ages in which values such as respect and solidarity come together. Sport is also an important part of Kirol Pride: with tournaments such as herri kirolak (sports competitions rooted in the traditional lifestyle of the Basque people) and fun popular races open to anyone to have a go.
Every corner The Bilbao Arenal is the perfect setting to enjoy free live entertainment on the main stage with Kate Ryan, Barei, Las Bistecs and Sandra Love. Audiences, artists and DJs become one with starry nights and performances to remember.

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
You're staying here
Bilbao and Bizkaia, open to the future, enjoy a huge capacity for integration of all people who come to discover them. Since the opening of the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao has undergone an urban and cultural transformation that it proudly wishes to show the whole world. The Balioen Hiria project also showcases the changes that have taken place in Basque society, improving inclusion, diversity and equal rights for LGBT collectives. All these values make this the perfect location for the EPOA (European Pride Organisers' Associations) Annual General Meeting in September 2019.
Since the beginning of Pride in 2015, Bilbao has shown exemplary integration of LGBT collectives in its cultural activities. Under the name of Atlantic Rainbow, Bilbao, Bordeaux, Biarritz and other cities Bilbao Old Quarter form an alliance with the aim of coordinating a common agenda. This Atlantic Rainbow is an opportunity for EPOA to achieve even greater visibility.
he live show circuit is vibrant and more and more artists are including Bilbao and Bizkaia on their international tour schedules. There is something for all tastes in 2019, with famous festivals such as BBK Live, BIME, the Mundaka Festival, Getxo Folk, Jazz and Blues, Txapel Reggae in Armintza and the classic BOS concerts and Opera at ABAO. Add some dates to your diary and come fill up your heart and soul with some great live music!

To further the aims of pride in Bilbao, the City Council and the Bizkaia Regional Council are fully supportive. It is also a very symbolic date for the European conference, it is the 40th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Spain. It is also the 50th anniversary of Stonewall; the origin of the international PRIDE movement. This shows appreciation for and recognition of those who fought for the rights and freedoms of the LGBT collective and, therefore, for society in general.

ASTE NAGUSIA ! 14
ugust 17-25 is the big week in the Biscay capital, Aste Nagusia, nine days of nonstop partying with a specific programme dedicated to diversity, including Pinpilinpauxa and other 'txosnas' (spaces for the parade parties) and local venues. The anthem of Aste Nagusia that you will hear and dance to more than once is now sounding the wakeup call for all party-goers and fun lovers: there is just one week like this in the whole world, don't miss it! Whether because of its open and plural nature, its day, evening and night time events or because of the charming and energetic Marijaia, the symbol of the party, living in the moment in this unique Bilbao celebration is a fantastic experience that you must discover for yourself. Parades, concerts (free!), gastronomy contests, activities for families of all kinds, fun and music, sports, exhibitions... it is all happening at Aste Nagusia and everyone is welcome here. Come along and experience all the fun and entertainment.
! YOU HAVE A DATE Lots to choose from and everything you like There is a fantastic schedule of artists and performers in Bilbao and its surrounding areas with live shows day and night from Thursday to Sunday. Cross-dressing, impersonation, music, DJs and many laughs... all in a very international and typically Bilbao atmosphere that is ready to surprise and delight you. Have fun in Bilbao: the liveliest areas for dining and socialising with a great atmosphere are concentrated in the Casco Viejo (Old Quarter), Bilbao La Vieja, and also in the city centre and surrounding areas. From specific bars and pubs to large mixed and multicultural areas, you will always find yourself in a relaxed and respectful environment. There are also other points of Bizkaia accessible by metro or public transport, such as Barakaldo and Portugalete, which also have very interesting proposals though out the festivities and on selected dates.
Art After Dark: One Friday per month, from 22:00 to 01:00, visit the exhibitions at the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum to the rhythm of the best international DJs. Art as you have never seen or experienced it. Santurtzi Harrotasuna Pride: Celebrated in the first half of June, this smaller initiative shows the colourful heart and soul of this fishing village. Parades, concerts, decoration... the rainbow has an annual date in Santurtzi, 20 minutes by metro or train from the centre of Bilbao.

Cinema for EVERYONE 16
he sixteenth edition of Zinegoak, the LGBT International Film and Performing Arts Festival, will take place on February 16 and March 3. For two weeks, films and works by international creators are exhibited and represented during the course of this prestigious event. At Zinegoak, the people are part of the festival. Your vote will decide the award for the best short film screened before each main film. Realities, fiction, social criticism and avant-garde: 15 days in which Bilbao becomes the capital of the seventh art and culture with an affective-sexual and gender perspective.
Let's go to the cinema Throughout the days of the festival there are movies, talks and meetings and you can enjoy various events. Different places in the city host parties, karaoke and performances; the ideal plan after enjoying a film. Emblematic places such as the Arriaga Theatre and the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum will host the opening and closing ceremonies, which you can attend by contacting the organisation. www.zinegoak.com
OTHER A GOOD IDEA
Pintxos and stars You choose: the exceptional idea of enjoying the ambience of the local bars in which you can try an endless selection of miniature dishes, which are called pintxos here, or traditional Basque cuisine such as pil-pil or Biscay-style cod, baby squid, 'pisto' (a version of ratatouille) or delicious tuna, all of excellent quality and the result of the dedication of hardworking local men and women known as 'arrantzales' and 'baserritarras'.
e love our gastronomy and we want to share it with you. Starting with the delicious and creative pintxos, followed by menus of modern and traditional Basque cuisine at exceptional value for money and culminating with the most prestigious restaurants in the world; Bilbao and Bizkaia currently have 13 Michelin stars*. All washed down with great local wines such as Txakoli. Sophistication and quality; it is the perfect time and place to be surprised by dishes and culinary proposals that will delight all kinds of tastes. *November 2018
If you have a special curiosity, you can visit a txakoli wine bar. Or if it's the season, stop by a cider house or visit local cheese producers. If you're a cook, sign up for a pintxo or new-cuisine cooking course (ask at Bilbao and Bizkaia Tourist Offices).
A GOOD IDEA Bilbao and Bizkaia stand out because of a privileged location that enables visitors to discover many new destinations within an hour and a half away. That is the case of Donostia/San Sebastiรกn, the elegant capital of Gipuzkoa. With a calendar of events and festivals spread over the twelve months, getting out and about, tasting the local cuisine and enjoying the beaches are highly recommended experiences for any time of the year.

Take a weekend break
! Vitoria-Gasteiz is another suggestion that deserves a space in your travel plans. Its Old Quarter and parks are stunning. It is also well worth visiting Rioja Alavesa, with its prestigious wineries located to the south, if you love tasting fine wines. Another original proposal is Biarritz; a fabulous city on the Basque-French coast that also has an emerging LGBT scene. Be sure to include the Grande Plage (great beach) and the lighthouse on your route. These are just some tips; the possibilities are unlimited!
