Tres grandes conciertos Three big concerts

Bilbao Pride se lleva a cabo los días 21, 22, 23 y 24 de junio de 2018 y se presenta como un evento sociocultural a favor de la visibilidad LGTB (Lesbianas, Gais, Transexuales y Bisexuales), la diversidad y la sensibilización. Llega de nuevo con un completo programa de actividades.

Llegan a BEC varios conciertos muy esperados.

Judas Priest, una de las bandas más relevantes del heavy metal, el 28 de junio; Shakira reanuda su gira ‘El Dorado World Tour’ y canta el 30 de junio; y el ex beatle Ringo Starr lo hace el 1 de julio.

Bilbao Pride will be held on 21, 22, 23 and 24 June 2018 and is presented as a socio-cultural event in favour of LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals) visibility, diversity and awareness-raising. It is back with a complete schedule of activities.

Several much-awaited concerts will be held in the BEC. Judas Priest, one of the most relevant bands in heavy metal, on 28 June; Shakira is back with her ‘El Dorado World Tour’ and will perform on 30 June; and former Beatle Ringo Starr will do so on 1 July.

Esther Ferrer (Donostia/San Sebastián, 1937), pionera y una de las principales representantes del arte de performance en España. Obras plásticas a través de fotografías intervenidas, instalaciones, cuadros basados en la serie de números primos, objetos…

Michael Snow (Toronto, 1929) es una de las figuras clave del cine experimental y de la videoinstalación. Circuito cerrado ofrece un montaje de obras recientes en las que el medio videográfico se presenta como un canal sensorial autónomo, sin apenas rastro de intencionalidad humana.

Esther Ferrer (b. 1937, Donostia/San Sebastián), a pioneer and one of the main representatives of performance art in Spain. Plastic art works by means of staged photographs, installations, paintings based on series of prime numbers, objects...

Michael Snow (b. 1929,Toronto) has been a key figure in experimental film and video installation.

Closed Circuit will offer a montage of works from different periods where video is presented as an autonomous sensory channel with hardly a trace of human intention.

Una de las exposiciones más visitadas, desde su llegada a Bilbao el 14 de febrero, que reúne 96 obras de Goya, buena parte de las cuales (71, de las que 52 se corresponden con óleos y el resto, con documentación y artes decorativas) proceden del Museo del Prado. Tras formarse en Zaragoza e Italia, Francisco de Goya (Fuendetodos, Zaragoza, 1746-Burdeos, 1828) se instaló en Madrid en 1775 y llegó a la corte de Carlos III para colaborar en los cartones para tapices con temas de caza para El Escorial. Su reconocimiento llegaría años después al ser nombrado, primero, pintor del rey (1786) y, más tarde, primer pintor de cámara (1799). La tesis de esta exposición transita entre el éxito del pintor en las cortes de Carlos III y Carlos IV, y el recuerdo persistente de sus orígenes a través del contacto con sus íntimos. Además del núcleo de lienzos y cartones de Goya, la exposición se completa con obras de otros pintores relevantes del siglo XVIII como Luis Paret, Mariano Maella, José del Castillo, Luis Meléndez, Antonio Carnicero o Lorenzo Tiepolo, que contextualizan su trabajo.

One of the most visited exhibition since its arrival in Bilbao on 14 February, comprising 96 works by Goya, most of which (71, 52 of them oil paintings and the rest, with documentation and decorative arts) are from the Prado Museum. Following his training in Zaragoza and Italy, Francisco de Goya (Fuentetodos, Zaragoza, 1746-Bordeaux, 1828) he moved to Madrid in 1775 and joined the court of Charles III to collaborate with the tapestry cartoons on hunting themes for El Escorial. His recognition was achieved some years later when he was first appointed painter to the King (1786) then First Court Painter (1799). The theme of this exhibition hovers between the painter's success in the courts of Charles III and Charles IV, and the persistent memory of his origins through contact with his closest circle.

In addition to the core of canvasses and cartoons

by Goya, the exhibition is completed with works by other relevant 18th-century painters such as Luis Paret, Mariano Maella, José del Castillo, Luis Meléndez, Antonio Carnicero or Lorenzo Tiepolo, who contextualise his work.

Desde el 9 de mayo hasta el 17 de septiembre / From 9 May to 17 September Con motivo del 110 aniversario del museo, esta exposición muestra 110 de las obras más relevantes de la colección del museo con el fin de evidenciar la gran calidad de la colección y hacer un repaso por la historia de la pinacoteca.

La exposición cuenta con un ambicioso montaje y un soporte museográfico con el que se puede profundizar en la historia del arte y su entorno artístico y social más inmediato. Se organizará en la Sala BBK y en parte de la sala 32.

On occasion of the 110th anniversary of the museum, this exhibition displays 110 of the most relevant works in the museum's collection to show the high quality of the collection and to review the history of the art gallery. The exhibition includes an ambitious installation and a museum resource which makes it possible to explore in depth the history of art and its most immediate artistic and social environment. It will be organised in the Sala BBK and in part of room 32.

El Museo Vasco de Bilbao está ubicado en pleno Casco Viejo, ocupando el edificio del siglo XVII del que fuera Iglesia y Colegio San Andrés de la Compañía de Jesús. En su planta baja está uno de los atractivos principales del museo, el claustro, un espacio único que expone sarcófagos, escudos de armas y el famoso ídolo del Mikeldi. Este se encontró junto a la desaparecida ermita de Mikeldi en Iurreta (Bizkaia). Está realizado en un único bloque de arenisca procedente de los alrededores de Durango y representa de forma esquemática a un animal, un verraco, entre cuyas patas y bajo el vientre aprisiona un disco. Es una escultura de carácter má12

gico-religioso. También hay aquí una reproducción del Crucero de Kurutziaga, cuyo original está en Durango.

La primera planta del Museo Vasco está dedicada a la etnografía. Versa sobre la cultura pastoril, El Mar de los Vascos y las Artesanías Textiles (lino y lana). La segunda planta se centra en la cerámica y en las ferrerías, con piezas de la cerámica popular vasca, lozas y porcelanas. Y su tercera planta está concentrada en la Historia, con una maqueta de Bizkaia en tres dimensiones.

The Basque Museum in Bilbao is located in the heart of the Old Quarter, occupying the 17th-century building that used to be the Church and School of San Andrés de la Compañía de Jesús. The ground floor houses one of the Museum's main attractions, the cloisters, a unique space that exhibits sarcophagi, coats of arms and the famous Mikeldi idol. The latter was found beside the now disappeared chapel of Mikeldi in Iurreta (Biscay). It is made with a single block of sand-stone from near Durango and it represents the rough outline of an animal, a boar, with a disc between its legs and

under its abdomen. It is a magical-religious sculpture. There is also a reproduction of the Transept of Kurutziaga, the original of which is in Durango.

The first floor of the Basque Museum is dedicated to ethnography. It deals with shepherding culture, the Basques and the Sea and Textile Craftsmanship (linen and wool). The second floor focuses on ceramics and ironworks, with Basque ceramics, pottery and porcelain items.

And its third floor focuses on History, with a scale model of Biscay in three dimensions.

Ya están aquí el 11 y 12 de mayo. Son las fechas señaladas para recibir a miles y miles de visitantes en un acontecimiento de enorme repercusión en Bilbao: las finales de la European Rugby Champions Cup y de la European Rugby Challenge Cup. Se disputan en el nuevo y moderno Estadio San Mamés (53.000 espectadores), conocido como la catedral del fútbol y que también será una de las sedes de la UEFA Euro 2020. Pero antes, el estadio, uno de los mejores del continente, se convierte en un templo del rugby.

A Bilbao llegan estos días decenas de miles de aficionados y aficionadas de varios países con tradición máxima en un deporte que transmite unos valores muy positivos.

Wilbur, un amigo inglés que conocieron Miren y Diego durante las vacaciones de verano, les mandó un mail explicándoles cómo le iba el curso e interesándose por ellos. Y, al final, les preguntaba: ¿Qué cosas hacían los vascos y las vascas?

En la primera planta, Miren y Diego disfrutaron de las exposiciones etnográficas Cultura pastoril y El Mar de los Vascos. En el segundo piso vieron colecciones de cerámica popular, loza y porcelanas vascas. Pero lo que le encantó a Diego fueron los objetos relacionados con las ferrerías y la producción de hierro.

“Que nos lo expliquen ama y aita”, propuso Diego.

“O miramos en internet o en los libros. Mejor: ¿por qué no vamos al Museo Vasco?”, sugirió Miren. “¡Buena idea!”, exclamó Diego.

La tercera planta guarda un enorme maqueta en relieve del Territorio Histórico de Bizkaia. “¿Me la puedo llevar a casa?”, sopló Diego a una sorprendida guía. Además, hay mapas y muchas otras piezas.

El museo se encuentra en el número 4 de la Plaza Miguel de Unamuno de Bilbao. Una de las más animadas del Casco Viejo y de la ciudad. Es un edificio grandote y muy antiguo. Se articula en torno a un patio interior muy chulo.

“Ya le podemos explicar a Wilbur qué hacíamos los vascos y las vascas”, dijo Miren. “Sí, pero también le pedimos que se pase él por aquí otra vez”, adujo Diego.

En el centro de ese patio llama la atención el ‘Mikeldi’. “Es un ídolo precristiano que representa a un 38

On the second floor they saw several collections of popular ceramics, chinaware and Basque porcelain. But what Diego really liked were the objects related to foundries and the production of iron.

“Mum and Dad can tell us”, said Diego. “Or we can look it up on the Internet or in books. Better still: Why don’t we go to the Basque Museum? Suggested Miren. “Good idea!”, exclaimed Diego.

The third floor has an enormous scale model of the Historical Territory of Biscay. “Can I take it home?”, Diego asked a surprised guide. There are also maps and many other items.

The museum is located at number 4 in Plaza Miguel de Unamuno in Bilbao. One of the liveliest squares in the Old Quarter and in the city. It is a very large, old building. It is arranged around a very nice courtyard.

“Now we can tell Wilbur what the Basques did in the old days”, said Miren. “Yes, and we can also ask him to come and visit us again”, added Diego.

The ‘III Gran Fondo BIBE Transbizkaia’ touring bike race will be held on Sunday 3 June with a distance of 178 km and 3,900 m elevation gain, while the Middle Distance race has a distance of 122 km.
