Annual Review 2017

Significant achievements and decisions were recorded during 2017 for the industry’s elite sector of mega TBM applications. In the 2017 Annual Review, breakthroughs are celebrated, new orders are placed and machines of more than 14m diameter are launched or progressed on their journeys to leave in their wake underground infrastructure of truly awesome scale and monumental endeavour.

To the great relief and credit to all involved, the 17.48m diameter TBM excavating the SR99 highway tunnel in Seattle, USA, broke through in April 2017 after completing a marathon journey that began in July 2013. The giant EPBM, manufactured by Hitachi Zosen of Japan, broke through the headwall of the north portal reception structure to complete its 2,848.5m (9,265ft) drive for the double-deck highway under the heart of the city.
