Activity in the global tunnelling and underground construction industry during 2014 was highlighted by advance of the €8.6 billion Brenner base railway link under the Alps between Austria and Italy (in 2012 prices) and official start of 38km of drill+blast and TBM excavation for the €377.3 million Tulfes-Pfons Lot of the scheme.

Other major projects recording progress during the year included the Waterview highway project in New Zealand; the Doha Metro in Qatar; the Stuttgart 21 rail project in Germany; and a year of recovery for the mega TBM working on the SR99 highway project in Seattle, USA. These projects and more are included in the annals of 2014.
