ART IN THE SQUARE
Each fall, Tulsa’s Utica Square becomes more than a shopping and dining destination — it becomes one for art, too. Nearly 90 local artists showcase their work and are on-hand to answer questions and sell you a masterpiece. Find art ranging from watercolors and stained glass to sculpture and woodturning. For those with kiddos, art activities abound near children’s store Lolly Garden.
While this only happens once a year, it’s a great opportunity to see a collection of artists in one of the city’s favorite destinations.

CLIMB TULSA HOWDY BURGER
In the dead of winter or the longest and hottest days of the summer, Climb Tulsa is a great place to stay active. Since 2018, this gym has offered Tulsans a fun indoor space for activities that build strength, confidence and teamwork. Climb Tulsa features two floors of climbing walls, including bouldering (unattached, free-hand climbing) and belaying (with ropes and harnesses) on walls as tall as 45 feet. Classes are offered for beginners — you can rent equipment there — and for seasoned climbers looking to gain new skills like lead climbing and outdoor climbing. Additionally, the gym offers yoga classes, parties and teams for kids ages 8–19.
4923 E. 32ND ST., CLIMBTULSA.COM To the hungry carnivore, few things smell as appetizing as a bag of hot burgers. Howdy Burger serves up the American classic just like you’d find at a roadside burger stand: cheesy, greasy and wrapped in paper. The old-fashioned burgers, which start at $5, are made with locally sourced wagyu beef, cooked on a flat-top grill and served on fluffy potato buns. Add Kellyville-raised bacon to a single, double (the Original Howdy Burger) or triple. Bacon makes another appearance on the tasty Rodeo Fries, along with cheese and Howdy Burger’s signature Rodeo Sauce.

ESPERANCE BAKERY

Esperance Bakery is the closest thing to heaven in real life. At 7 a.m. the croissants are fresh out of the oven, airing out on the kitchen table- top before being put in the display case. There are always new specialty options — both sweet and savory — that the baker will kindly describe in detail. Beware of decision fatigue: They all sound so amazing you might just buy one of everything. Every kind is wonderful, but the plain croissant and the lightly sweet kouign amann (pronounced “queen aman”) are a couple go-to favorites.

THE VANGUARD
The Vanguard is the perfect spot to catch local bands perform intimate shows, touring acts packing the house and days long festivals. With balcony seating and a large bar, this is the ideal spot to enjoy a few drinks and find a new favorite band. The Vanguard also hosts an occasional live-band karaoke night where you get your chance to perform like a rock star. The Vanguard is located in the middle of downtown between two other favorite music venues: the historic Cain’s Ballroom and Chi- mera, creating a corridor of some of the best live music Tulsa has to offer. Be sure to stop by those for even more local and touring acts.

JUNE 14

CRY BABY HILL
Saint Francis Tulsa Tough has become one of the most anticipated cycling events in the country and one of Tulsans’ favorite times of year. Races start June 12, and the weekend culminates with the cult-love classic Cry Baby Hill on June 14. CBH is part of the River Parks Criterium featuring the best of the best racers. Riders charge up the hill on West 13 th Street through a sea of cheering fans. Somewhere between Mardi Gras and a raving Halloween party, this is one of Tulsa’s most celebrated treasures of the summer. Masked and costumed individuals hoist baby doll heads on sticks in the air, beer cans are crushed in a matter of minutes and even with the barricades introduced last year, folks will still remind you to “mind the gap.” Don’t let the name fool you; this is definitely an adults-only party.
SATURN ROOM
If you’re a fan of tropical settings but not of airfare, Saturn Room is calling your name. Resplendent with tiki motifs, moody lighting and thatching everywhere you look, the theme is consistent down to the glass you drink from: Will you get a hollowed-out coconut or a Tiki totem? More than an outlet for tropical interior design, Saturn Room’s strength is in its drinks. Try the Saturn, with rum, falernum, passionfruit, orgeat and lemon. Looking for something sweeter? The Shark’s Tooth mixes Caribbean rum with hints of cherry, lime and pineapple. For the piña colada fans among us, Saturn Room makes its coconut cream fresh in-house.
