Dear Friends, Thank you for your interest in the arts, and specifically for your support of events held at the PAC. There was a time when the PAC was nearly the only entertainment venue in downtown Tulsa. From our vantage point at the nexus of the Blue Dome, Brady Arts and Deco districts, we’ve watched unique restaurants, brewpubs and cocktail lounges — not to mention the BOK Center and ONEOK Field — enliven our neighborhood. We are happy to be a player in this Tulsa renaissance, and we appreciate it greatly when you choose to spend your time at Tulsa’s home to the arts.

As I look back on the three decades I’ve been with the PAC, 28 years as director, I marvel at the performance quality of our local arts organizations. They present their respective genres at an artistic level that would make any major city proud. I congratulate them for their continuing excellence and give a special shout out to Tulsa Ballet on its 60th anniversary and to Tulsa Symphony on its 10th.

This brochure includes all of the events that were booked at the PAC at time of publication. Shows marked with a PAC logo are those that our arts groups have selected from their lineups to recognize the PAC’s 40th anniversary. You will always find the most up-to-date information at TulsaPAC.com.

As we mark this 40th anniversary, I’m grateful for those people who were instrumental in making the PAC a reality, particularly former mayor Robert J. LaFortune, who has served on the PAC Trust since before “Everyone’s Place” opened nearly 40 years ago!

THE WHO’S TOMMY

Oklahoma, 1906, a soon-to-be state where farmers and cowmen could be friends is the setting for this Pulitzer Prize-winning Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Songs include “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” and “Oklahoma!”

Based on the 1969 rock concept album by The Who, this five-time Tony Award winner tells the story of a deaf, dumb and blind boy who becomes a pinball wizard as a way of dealing with damaging childhood experiences.

The wit and wisdom of Oklahoma’s favorite son, and his journey from cowboy to columnist to star of stage and screen, are showcased in a series of Follies-like variety acts and production numbers.

HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL

A brainy, beautiful teenage misfit hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High, the Heathers, in this 2014 Off-Broadway rock musical. The piece is based on the 1989 cult film Heathers. Recommended for mature audiences.

10 Gala Anniversary Concert Featuring Joshua Bell is one of the most celebrated violinists of his era. Daniel Hege conducts this Grammy Awardwinning recording artist for a concert featuring Strauss’ Don Juan, De Falla’s The Three-Cornered Hat Suite No. 2, and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.

DISNEY’S NEWSIES

Actor Max McLean takes audiences on a fascinating theatrical adventure as C.S. Lewis, tracing the author’s journey from atheism to belief. This fast-paced 70-minute presentation brims with Lewis’ entertaining wit and thought-provoking insight.

The year 1964 was pivotal in America, and President Johnson was at its center. This 2014 Best Play Tony Award winner features 24 actors portraying historic figures like J. Edgar Hoover, Martin Luther King Jr., George Wallace, Hubert Humphrey and LBJ himself.

RACHMANINOFF’S 2ND SYMPHONY

Guest conductor Philip Mann conducts Samuel Barber’s Essay No. 1, written in 1937, and Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 2, featuring Tulsa Symphony’s Bruce Schultz. Also on the program is Rachmaninoff’s most renowned work, his beautiful and moving Symphony No. 2.

TRIO SOLISTI

The New Yorker called Trio Solisti “the most exciting piano trio in America.” Violinist Maria Bachmann, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach and a relatively new member to the trio, Italian pianist Fabio Bidini, will perform music from Haydn, Chausson and Brahms.

THE MAN WHO PLANTED TREES

This theatrical adaptation of author Jean Giono’s classic book tells the inspiring story of a shepherd who plants a forest, acorn by acorn, transforming a wasteland.

Both touching and humorous, the production is staged by Puppet State Theatre Company of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Unrequited love drives this story of a worldly Russian dandy, Onegin, and the less-sophisticated Tatiana.

John Cranko’s ballet is drawn from Alexander Pushkin’s verse-novel and set to music by Tchaikovsky.

This freelance photographer has produced more than 30 stories for National Geographic. As part of the magazine’s multi-year project, PhotoArk, he has photographed over 5,000 of the world’s captive species with a goal of reaching the 12,000 in captivity before they disappear.

Each member a noted soloist in his own right, the U.S.-based Hermitage Piano Trio, originally from Russia, is distinguished by its exuberant musicality, interpretive range and sumptuous sound. They will perform an all-Russian program with music from Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich and Rimsky-Korsakov.

BRAHMS’ REQUIEM

Brahms composed this piece after the deaths of his mother and his beloved fellow composer Robert Schumann. It was intended as a work of consolation for those left behind. Tulsa Oratorio Chorus joins Tulsa Symphony under the baton of James Bagwell.

Based in Argentina, the company excites audiences through precise footwork and rhythmic stomping, singing, drumming of the bombos, and whirling boleadoras (lassos with stones on the end). This percussive dance-and-music spectacle celebrates the South American cowboy tradition of the gaucho.

A renowned expert on foreign affairs, McFaul served as Special Assistant to President Obama and Senior Director for Russian and Eurasian Affairs at the National Security Council. He is an author, a professor of political science at Stanford, and an analyst for NBC News.

Four albums recorded by this Grammy Award-winning trumpeter have reached No. 1 on the Billboard jazz chart. In addition to his solo career, Botti has toured with Paul Simon and Sting, and performed with Aretha Franklin, Josh Groban and other vocal superstars.

AND THEN THEY CAME FOR ME

This multimedia play combines videotaped interviews of Holocaust survivors Eva Schloss and Ed Silverberg, who were part of Anne Frank’s life, with live actors recreating scenes based on the interviews. The ensemble-driven play has been acclaimed by audiences and critics worldwide.

A winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, Lysander Trio has been praised by The Strad for its “passionate playing, articulate and imaginative ideas and wide palette of colours.” They will play music from Schubert, Baran, Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Granados.

A sadistic police chief lusts after a beautiful opera singer whom he believes will do anything to save her artist lover. Soprano Evelina Dobračeva sings the title role with tenor Christian Juslin as Cavaradossi and Weston Hurt as the evil Scarpia in Puccini’s beloved Tosca. Italian conductor Francesco Cilluffo makes his U.S. debut.

Set in the 1880s, Sarah Ruhl’s touching and hilarious play is about a young doctor who finds success treating women’s ailments with new technology — vibrators.
