Oklahoma’s own Sarah Coburn stars as Marie, a tomboyish young woman raised by a group of French soldiers, who has been “rescued” by the Marquise of Birkenfeld to be groomed for marriage to an aristocrat. However, Marie is in love with Tonio, a peasant. Humorous plot twists and startling revelations keep Marie’s future happiness in doubt in this highspirited romantic comedy by Donizetti. Sung in French with English supertitles.
Composed by Frank Loesser, The Most Happy Fella has been termed “one of the most ambitiously operatic works ever written for Broadway.” An aging Italian vineyard owner proposes to a young waitress by mail but, leery of revealing his age, sends her a picture of his handsome ranch foreman. Kim Josephson, associate professor of voice at the University of Oklahoma, stars in this Tulsa Opera premiere. Sung in English.
THEATRE TULSA THE ODD COUPLE August 31-September 8 Mix one well-meaning slob of a sportscaster with one neat and tidy health nut, and before long these mismatched roommates are driving each other crazy. Add in their quirky friends and a hot date gone wrong, and you have Neil Simon’s most enduring comedy.
HAMLET October 26-November 3 Theatre Tulsa teams up with Odeum Theatre Company to present what many consider the greatest play ever written. A multi-generational cast of Tulsa actors brings an inventive approach to Shakespeare’s passionate and enduring story of the Prince of Denmark. A rare theatrical event!
AÏDA April 20, 26, 28 Often called the grandest of grand opera, Aïda was the first production Tulsa Opera staged at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center after it opened in 1977. Rising star soprano Amber Wagner makes her Tulsa debut in the title role. Tulsa Oratorio Chorus and Tulsa Ballet II join forces with Tulsa Opera for a spectacular production celebrating the 200th birthday of Aïda’s composer, Guiseppe Verdi. Sung in Italian with English supertitles.

OLIVER! March 15-23 Charles Dickens’ treasured tale of the orphan boy delights with foottapping, engaging songs, including “I’d Do Anything,” “Consider Yourself” and “Where Is Love.” Lionel Bart’s book, music and lyrics stir the spirit and teach that each child is a gift.
BOEING-BOEING May 10-18 The 2008 Tony Award winner for best revival, this 1960s French farce focuses on a Parisian ladies’ man who has three fiancées — all beautiful airline hostesses. He keeps “one up, one down and one pending” until schedule changes bring all three to his apartment at the same time!
TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE January 10-13 Adapted from Mitch Albom’s bestselling book, Tuesdays with Morrie is a sensitive, uplifting play based on the time Albom spent with his dying former professor. Veteran Tulsa actor Tom Berenson stars. NY Magazine says, “The play makes it more vivid, more shattering, more humorous.”

TULSA SYMPHONY BLUE September 22 Tulsa Symphony’s program selections are categorized by colors this season. Perhaps the title of their first concert should be “Bleu” or “French Blue.” The orchestra leads off a colorful season with Debussy’s La Mer and Ravel’s Mother Goose. Maestro James Paul also conducts Belgian and longtime Paris resident César Franck’s Symphony in D.
GREEN November 3 Featuring Crescendo Award winner Steven Lin on piano, guest conductor Aaron Collins advances a green theme and engenders a contemplative state with performances of Hovhannes’ Mysterious Mountain, Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini, Picker’s Old and Lost Rivers, and Respighi’s Pines of Rome.

VIOLET March 16 Associated with royalty, violet is a color that fits well with the medieval romantic tones of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4. Tulsa Symphony welcomes royalty in the persons of guest pianist Robin Sutherland and conductor Daniel Hege. A favorite performer at OK Mozart, Sutherland will be featured in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21.
ORANGE April 6 Samuel Barber’s School for Scandal is playful, lively and bursting with drama, much like the comedic play after which it was written. Add to that Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, which catches audiences in a whirlwind of joy, and Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, and you have one energetic and dramatic program. Conductor David Lockington and featured guest artist Dylana Jenson complete the evening.
YELLOW December 1 Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Tulsa Performing Arts Center when Tulsa Symphony presents the film The Wizard of Oz with original audio accompanied by a live symphonic musical score. Popular guest conductor Ron Spigelman takes the audience over the rainbow with Dorothy, her friends, and music made famous by the iconic film.

RED February 9 The color of passion and Valentines, red is an excellent backdrop for Mark O’Connor’s energetic, jazzy and swinging Double Violin Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra. O’Connor is the special guest artist for the concert, conducted by Tim Myers. Also on the program are Daugherty’s Route 66 and Ives’ Symphony No. 1.

AGE OF INNOCENCE September 14-16 Tulsa Ballet opens its season with works by three modern masters. Acclaimed choreographer Wayne McGregor’s PreSentient is a U.S. premiere, Jorma Elo’s Slice to Sharp returns to the Tulsa Ballet repertoire, and Edwaard Liang’s Age of Innocence — a piece the Chicago Sun Times called a “newly minted masterpiece” — completes this triple-bill program.
DRACULA October 26-28 Set the mood for Halloween! This ballet was the talk of the 2009 season and is back by popular demand. Passionate and visually stunning, Ben Stevenson’s Dracula is a hauntingly spectacular production, featuring an eerie score from Franz Liszt and awe-inspiring special effects.
THE NUTCRACKER December 8-23 A young French girl’s fantasy becomes a glittering dream filled with beauty and romance in an extraordinary production that mixes the visuals of a Broadway show with the heartwarming story of a fairytale Christmas. Marcello Angelini’s choreography is danced to Tchaikovsky’s beloved score.

LADY OF THE CAMELLIAS February 1-3 The world of 19th-century Paris, along with Chopin’s moving score, comes alive in a touching tale of a beautiful courtesan and her suitor, and a love that family and fate intervene to destroy. Based on a novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils, Lady of the Camellias inspired Verdi’s La Traviata and the film Moulin Rouge. Tulsa Ballet’s season also includes performances at nearby venues.

The story follows the three Darling children as they fly away with Peter to his home in Neverland, where they have adventures with Indians, mermaids, pirates and fairies.
WEST SIDE STORY April 30–May 5 More than 50 years ago, West Side Story broke new ground in musical theatre with its sophisticated music, extended dance scenes and focus on social issues. OF MICE AND MEN March 1-9 An American classic by Nobel Prizewinning author John Steinbeck, the novelist’s Depression-era drama centers on two migrant farm workers, George and Lennie, who are caught in a desperate search for honest work, a parcel of land to call their own, and an end to the crippling emotion of loneliness.
A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING May 3-11 This joyous revue celebrates the genius of one of the greatest collaborations in the history of popular song, composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. Their “Fresh Ayre” concert is a musical portrait of 18th-century London with works by George Frederic Handel, Henry Purcell, John Playford, and Nicola Matteis.

TESLA QUARTET February 17 Tesla Quartet is a rising star among young American string quartets. Mentored by the renowned Takacs Quartet, they play with great energy, insight and imagination. The ensemble will perform music from Mozart, Webern and Debussy, and the composition “Love Letters,” written by Carter Pann, who will be in Tulsa for the quartet’s performances.
TOKYO STRING QUARTET October 21 Captivating audiences for more than four decades, Tokyo String Quartet includes a stop in Tulsa in its final season. This supreme chamber ensemble performs on the renowned “Paganini Quartet” of Stradivari’s instruments. They will perform music from Haydn, Bartók and Mendelssohn. ZODIAC TRIO November 18 These talented and passionate young musicians perform to acclaim on three continents. Their engaging programs feature music from classical to contemporary masters. The trio will showcase the music of five composers, including Paul Schoenfield and Béla Bartók.

For their first U.S. tour, the group will perform rarely heard gems from Italian composers Verdi, Puccini, Cherubini and Boccherini. GRYPHON TRIO April 14 Canada’s Gryphon Trio is one of the world’s preeminent piano trios, known for highly refined and dynamic performances. This concert features one work from each of four centuries by composers Haydn, Dvořák, Shostakovich and Dan Visconti. Visconti’s “Lonesome Roads” was composed in 2012 for performance by the Gryphon Trio.

PLAYHOUSE TULSA THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP October 26-28 Two actors play all eight characters in this satire of Victorian melodrama, farce and the Alfred Hitchcock film Rebecca. Charles Ludlum’s quick-change romp is set at Mandacrest Estate, home of Lady Enid and her husband, Lord Edgar, who hasn’t quite recovered from the death of his first wife, Irma Vep. The New York Times called the original production “frighteningly funny.”
