Originally built in 1810 in the Federal style, this iconic residence has a rich and illustrious history. It was home to many notable Washingtonians including Ambassador David K. E. and Evangeline Bell Bruce, who hosted countless presidents and prominent world figures during the course of six administrations. They also rented the house for a short time to Mr. and Mrs. Roger Stevens. He was a successful real estate broker and Broadway producer and had the distinction of being the first chairman of both the National Endowment for the Arts and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

This exquisite house has been completely renovated and transformed to reflect contemporary living, while maintaining the original elegance and charm of a historic Georgetown residence. When it was purchased in 2013, Baltimore-based designer Patrick Sutton and Annapolis-based Pyramid Builders extensively redesigned and rebuilt the entire house. They created an unrivaled residence which now offers more than 12,000 square feet of living space, remarkable original details, and impressive modern design. Floors of wide-plank, white oak and restored, working fireplaces are incorporated throughout the house.

One of the most commanding architectural features is the sleek and modern staircase, which was constructed using 22,000 pounds of Vermont Olympian White Danby marble, the same material used for the Jefferson Memorial. The ballroom,

which was added in 1960, has been kept intact for entertaining on a luxurious scale while the ceiling was later burnished in silver leaf. The walls of the dining room are upholstered in silk, complementing the original wood moldings, and the ceiling is illuminated by a superb Murano glass chandelier.

The lower-level media room was completely excavated as part of the recent renovation and was designed to evoke the feeling of a Prohibition Era speakeasy of the 1920s. The small bronze bar tucked away in the corner was created in the spirit of the “little bar” at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. While this residence was completely redesigned, it was done so in a way that was respectful of its history. The upstairs bedrooms are each dedicated to various U.S. Presidents including Kennedy, Jefferson, Eisenhower, Lincoln, and for the spectacular double-bedroom master suite, Roosevelt and Washington.
