WES SIDE STORY

THE STORIES OF THE TSU WESLEY FOUNDATION

WELCOME HOME! Celebrating

107 years of greatness.

Food, fellowship, friendship and laughter are benefits we associate with the feeling of "home. " This is what we experience every year for the TSU Wesley's homecoming weekend. We kicked off our Wesley weekend with a tailgate party in our backyard. We fired up the grill, cranked up the music and danced 'til our feet got tired. The next day was spent with the community with the TSU Wesley Foundation’s famous annual fish fry, sponsored by the Wesley Board of Directors, under the leadership of William Moon. Sunday, we came together for praise and worship led by the TSU Wesley Ensemble, Cersle, RJay Green, and Elvie Williams. Pastor Paul Perdue and Belmont UMC’s Young Adult Ministry and Rev. Marilyn Thornton and the Fisk Wesley Foundation were our special guests. We ended the weekend with laughter by viral "baby talk" sensation, comedian DJ Pryor.

3RD ANNUAL LIT CONFERENCE

Coming back bigger and better for its third year, the annual LIT Conference was nothing short of amazing. With hundreds in attendance at the Georgia World Congress Center, college students, young adults and campus leaders came from all across the country to witness and take part in the transformational work of LIT. The conference began with prayer and vibrant worship beginning an uplifting and heart changing weekend. Three of our own TSU Wesley Praise Team leaders were members of the amazing LIT worship team.

There were dynamic workshops led by influential leaders in the field of entrepreneurship, social justice, academics, financial stewardship and ministry. The LIT Worship Experience this year brought the Princess of Gospel, Kierra "KiKi" Sheard and the message by Rev. Nathalie Parker, national director of SBC21’s National Network of Young Adults. Clark Atlanta University Gospel Choir also filled the room transforming the atmosphere. Our hearts and minds were open and ready to receive the powerful words of Bishop Yvette Flunder as she spoke on being Salt and Light in this world. Her message made us question how society can cause us to lose our saltiness and dim our lights. We were all LIT by her preaching and wisdom and we all were empowered and equipped with how to maintain our effectiveness in the world.

The community impact panel consisted of diverse transformational leaders who are impacting their communities. Hearing their stories were inspiring.

The grand finale was three-year running popular guest speaker, Dr. Daniel Black. He charged us with a truly inspiring and mind- transforming message of purpose and hope. We ended with a loving moment of unity, induction ceremony to the new "LITees" and prayers until next year's conference. PAGE | 04

TSU WESLEY PURPOSE RETREAT

Our first annual PURPOSE retreat was a peaceful time of prayer, creativity, and reflection as we experienced God's beautiful creation, exploring the outside on a beautiful fall day. We sought God’s purpose for our lives and how we can better align ourselves with God’s will. PURPOSE student leaders led the small group discussions, prayer walks and reflections. We shared our stories and worshipped while the sounds of acoustic strings floated to the heavens. We all left feeling reset, renewed and restored.

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT & BOYS TO KINGS

It has been a blessing and a privilege to be welcomed to Alex Green Elementary school for the fourth session of the Butterfly Effect and Boys to Kings mentoring programs founded by TSU Wesley and Collegiate 100 students. These programs have been extremely successful and we take pride in the opportunity to speak life into the kings and queens of our future. This program was established to help build positive and encouraging relationships that foster academic excellence, selfconfidence and leadership.
