SUMMER 2022 ISSUE

In our last issue, we introduced our new ministry in partnership with Inglesia Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Growing In Grace. Since that issue, we have launched our ministry in full bloom and promoted our first graduating class through the program.

In this issue, we want to share our experience and show the spirit of Growing In Grace-Creciendo En Gracia.

This transformative ministry focused on female energy and leadership in the church and the community. This ministry nurtures friendship, fellowship, and mentorship between girls and women of color while strengthening sisterhood and further impacting the well-being of the church. We are building relationships between multicultural, and multigenerational women while connecting and becoming more culturally competent, and able to serve in a multicultural world.

GROWING IN GRACE

The foundation of our ministry was built with prayer for the girls and interns that were to enter the program. Next, all of our ministry leadership underwent cultural competence leadership training, socio-emotional learning training, and safe sanctuary training to equip and prepare for the multicultural and multigenerational connections to come. This Growing In Grace curriculum was designed by young adult interns who implemented topics and activities designed for girls ages 8 - 16.

Wesley leader, Gwendolyn Hampton says, "As a future educator, the Growing In Grace Internship gave me hands-on experience with curriculum building, choosing relative topics, creating objectives, selecting activities, and matching all of that to cultural and social-emotional learning competencies. It was great preparation as a future educator."

Wesley Leader, Treniscia Murrell says, " I connect with the Growing in Grace ministry because as a recent graduate, this experience helped me realize my future calling as a teacher. With the journey in creating the curriculum, I look at my own experiences as a youth and the changes in today's time to give them what they may be missing.

GROWING IN GRACE

The main purpose of this ministry is to connect young girls, young adult women, and their mentors, to women of faith from various ethnic backgrounds to boost self-esteem, confidence, faith-building, and socio-emotional well-being.

This ministry encourages young adults and girls together, to gain a better understanding of themselves and their spiritual gifts, and give them an understanding of what being a good friend looks like in action.

We congratulate our first graduating class of Growing In Grace-Creciendo En Gracia. Their ability to show up every week and blossom in love and ministry was a beautiful sight to witness. Gwendolyn states, "The girls were a joy to work with. I felt so inspired and encouraged by their enjoyment of the program we built. I felt affirmed in my purpose every single Sunday. Even in the toughest of times, I know that this is truly a passion of mine and it’s where I find the most joy while working. I am so grateful to have experienced such an opportunity, and I’m very thankful for everyone involved in making Growing in Grace ministry possible!"

This graduating class was led by five interns from TSU Wesley, two interns from Iglesia Ebenezer UMC and one intern from Belmont Wesley fellowship.
