Among the four teams that contended in the thrilling two-day competition towards problemsolving and innovation through programming, Team Deeprog ultimately emerged victorious with the development of a TSU CCS Laboratory Web-Based Management System in this year's CCS Week Hackathon Contest, announced Friday, October 18.

Moreover, Team Deeprog, composed of John Kenneth Sevilla, Van Rodolf Suliva, and Mark Jonel Yambao, when asked about the process it took to win, they said it was likely due to their implementation of Flask with a database and their collaboration efforts.

The participants were tasked to create a system that would be helpful for the campus using their chosen programming language with their progress monitored via Microsoft Teams.

“I'm not sure dito, pero considering na Flask framework ginamit namin and then inapplayan namin ng database, baka ‘yon ‘yong nagbigay ng points And also, sa collaboration, importante yon since given the span of two days, rush talaga yung system and sama mo pa yung documentation and preparation para sa presentation. Overall, worth it naman," Yambao said

Meanwhile, Team GEH (‘G’ - Gabe

Cervantes, ‘E’ - Eric Quiambao, and ‘H’ - Hannah Pulmano), emerged as the 2nd place through their conceptualization and implementation of a TSU Online Library.

"Our system is the TSU Online Library There is already an existing library, but it needs to be modernized. We also added the ability to read the books or other materials in the platform itself. It was a simple project. The technologies used are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript," Pulmano explained

The winning teams were decided by a panel composing of Programmer’s Den executives and Vice Governor Jericho Canlas

DISHONESTY AND LAPSES IN JUDGEMENT. An event can’t be a TSU event without the presence of issues

All my life, I have been a witness to dishonesty, not just at the personal level, but at the scope of a generation. Most of the kids my age will try their very best to get something, even if it means that you will try to cheat the system or fool the organizers of the biggest event in the university this year But the organizers weren't really out of the blame.

There have been reports of using connections, fake IDs, 'scalpers' selling tickets to the Battle of the Bands without authorization to do so, TSU GEW 2 0 runners turning before the turning point. And frankly, it is so not new to us.

We see many students who will try to score additional points by employing unethical tactics in examinations or quizzes But that does not mean that we should not adhere to the rules. Yet again, the rule makers are also not so perfect

Students who were also employed to secure the gymnasium were seen letting people in because they have a press or council pass that resembles the ones handed to them by the Supreme Student Council (SSC) They did not check those passes thoroughly enough to detect forgery, especially for the stamps.

I was personally let in by one of the SSC, even though I did not have my own press pass, because I gave it to one of my editors. Let's call it a friendly gesture in part of the Council because I was writing about the Mr and Ms. TSU 2024 pageant.

Given the limited capacity of the gymnasium at TSU Main, the SSC implemented a system that has been a staple in every big event in the university: a no-nonsense ticketing system. The ticket itself is very flimsy and can be imitated easily Even people who were handed tickets and passes outside the gymnasium as the gates were closed were still let in. But what use is the ticket if it does not guarantee a spot in the gym to support your friends right?

In the TSU GEW 2 0, participants were seen turning even though the turning point was still meters away. The people who were supposed to check the area did not notice what was happening until there were already many who tread a shortcut to the finish line.

Combined with the expected dishonest nature of some people, it is still possible to handle these situations, and both of them are in the hands of organizers.

First, a registration system confirming the identity of the guest can minimize the risk of having outsiders in the venue. It might also help if the officials checking the identity of the entering guest would make a visual confirmation using an ID card and student number

Second, clearly marking the turning point can be employed in the fun run event Marking with ropes or string, even large signboards can make students want to be more honest. An attentive staff in charge of securing the route of the race wouldn't hurt the race as well

At the end of the day, even if the students have all lost their honesty and values, it is always the job of the ones who handle events to mitigate risks. It is, however, a virtue for the youth to be honest, and to not abuse the system.
