hen my family emigrated from our native Italy in 1955, we settled in Nazareth because that’s where we had relatives. Sixty years later, we still call Nazareth home – by choice.

My racing career started here in 1959 at the old Fairgrounds dirt track in a stock car that my twin brother and I and some friends built in a local garage. he Nazareth Center for the Arts; located at 30 Belvidere St., Nazareth; is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable community arts based organization. Recreation JOIN THE FUN Lehigh Valley Steelhawks The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are a professional arena football team based out of Allentown, PA. Our players come from all over the United States from Division I, I-AA, II and Division III schools, and use the Steelhawks as an avenue to stay on film and hopefully move up through the ranks. In the past three seasons the Steelhawks have reached the Professional Indoor Football League’s playoffs, and were 2014 National Conference Champions. Playing inside the state-of-the-art PPL Center in downtown Allentown, their fast-paced and family friendly games are exciting and affordable. Season tickets start as low as $48 ($8 per game). If a ball goes in the stands, it is yours to keep and all fans are allowed on the field to meet the players and Precious Metal Dance team following every contest. The Lehigh Valley Phantoms The Phantoms are the proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL Philadelphia Flyers. They were established in 1996, playing their first 13 seasons in the Spectrum in Philadelphia, and then in Glens Falls, NY, until the PPL Center was completed for the 2014-15 season. The Phantoms have won two Calder Cup Championships and have developed many players who have gone on to play in the NHL. Several of the more notable players to play with the Phantoms are Claude Giroux, Danny Briere, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Sean Couturier, R.J. Umberger, Matt Read, Brayden Schenn, James van Riemsdyk, Michael Leighton, Zac Rinaldo, Patrick Sharp, Vinny Prospal, Ray Emery, Dennis Seidenberg and Ruslan Fedotenko.
Jacobsburg Historical Society The Jacobsburg Historical Society was formed in 1972 to help to preserve the Bushkill Creek Valley, particularly the Henry's Woods area. The Society has been active since its inception in keeping alive the rich history and culture of the industrial communities of Jacobsburg, Filetown and Boulton. The centerpiece of the Jacobsburg Historical Society is the legacy of the Henry family of gunsmiths. The Society serves as a repository for many unique and rare firearms in the Pennsylvania Longrifle Museum. This historical group also maintains the John Joseph Henry House and grounds and strives to preserve and share the history of a community that was so important in the early days of our nation.

n 1740 when Moravians settled in the Nazareth area, strong roots and a proud history were settled with it. A firm commitment to family and a strong work ethic are deeply rooted in the area. ince the days when C.F. Martin built the first Martin Guitar (1839) and the first cement mill began operation (1898), businesses and people have prospered. These businesses recognized the tradition of hard work present in local residents and created satisfactory jobs, making the Nazareth-Bath area an economically stable region. Economic development has historically been a priority of municipal officials. The goal has been to maintain a balance between residential and business growth and the availability of open space. As the country’s economic development shifted away from manufacturing years later, the Nazareth-Bath area was able to maintain most of its industries while diversifying into
other support businesses such as service establishments, retail stores, wholesale facilities and professionals that complemented other industries. Today, the major employers and small family-owned businesses enjoy the same benefits and continue to grow and prosper together. An ideal location is a significant economic advantage for the Nazareth-Bath area, situated in the Lehigh Valley area in eastern Pennsylvania. The area is fortunate to have a

coordinated and improved highway system. Routes 191 and 248 intersect in Nazareth and lead to Routes 22 and 33, which connect Nazareth area businesses to markets in Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton. Route 512 traverses Bath and connects with Routes 22, 248 and 33. I-78 is easily accessible from the Nazareth-Bath area. A variety of land sites and buildings are available and are suitable for new businesses and expansions. Storefronts in historic areas, and even historic buildings and land are available in well-planned and organized industrial parks. Financing and site selection opportunities are available from numerous economic development organizations in the Lehigh Valley including Northampton County, Nazareth Economic Development Commission, Nazareth Loan Pool and the Nazareth-Bath Area Chamber of Commerce.
Land Use Northampton County is comprised of 38 incorporated municipalities. Six of these — the boroughs of Nazareth, Tatamy and Stockertown, and Upper Nazareth, Lower Nazareth, and Bushkill townships — are generally considered the Greater Nazareth area and served by the Nazareth Area School System, the Bath Borough area is serviced by the Nazareth-Bath Area Chamber of Commerce. The total assessed valuation of taxable property within these seven municipalities as of 2005 was approximately $717 million. The area also accounts for 32,406 acres or 13.3 percent of the total 243,044 acres in Northampton County. The remaining acreage in each community is made up of a mix of wholesaling, warehousing, transportation, utilities, communications, parks and recreation, public and quasi-public areas. All municipalities currently have a comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, and subdivision regulations in place. The Nazareth Area Council of Governments is currently developing a 10-municipality comprehensive regional plan. During the decade of the 1990s and early 21st century housing growth was dramatic and far exceeded the commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s growth rate. During the 1990s, significant acreage in Lehigh Valley went to residential development and other uses. The greatest potential for residential expansion in the Nazareth-Bath area lies in the townships of Bushkill, Upper Nazareth and Lower Nazareth, which account for 29,826 acres of the 32,406 total. The vast majority of new construction in these townships is single-family residences. As of November 2014, the average sale price of a home in the Nazareth-Bath Area was $262,986. In the townships, the requirements for on-site septic systems and/or well water systems, requiring one-acre lots plus, will most likely make multi-unit housing improbable.
Phase II and III propose a town center and a campus that are designated for commercial office space, retail operations and upper-story loft accommodations. Tree-lined streets, attractive lighting and an extension to an existing bike path are among the many planned green-space features and amenities.
Land use for retail/commercial enterprises is generally on par with communities of similar size and population in Northampton County and can be fairly small in the Nazareth area. With an increase in residential development, there is a tendency for a corresponding increase in retail- and serviceoriented businesses. At the present time, many small businesses flourish in the Nazareth area. Many are specialty stores and service-related enterprises. Northampton Crossings Mall in Lower Nazareth Township and Giant Plaza in Lower Nazareth Township are the two major shopping areas with 60,000 square feet or more. After several years of planning, Charles Chrin Companies is proud to announce that The Chrin Commerce Center has 11 light industrial and office lots, featured as Phase I, representing the first acreage available for sale in the 800-acre Chrin Commerce Center. This multi-phase project surrounds a proposed Route 33 interchange, while convenient access exists via recent infrastructure improvements.
The retail, commercial office and light industrial facilities will provide employment opportunities for local residents. Apartments, integrated with office and retail spaces will offer a housing alternative not widely available in Tatamy. Office and retail services will diversify the borough’s economy and increase tax revenues. Light industrial and commercial office facilities will expand the townships economy. eautifully nestled among the hills, at the head of the Monocacy Valley, which takes its name from the creek bearing the same name, and in the heart of a rich agricultural region and thriving economic area, lies the traditional town of Bath Borough. It is one hundred miles distant from New York, sixty from Philadelphia, eight from Bethlehem and eleven from Easton, the county seat. It is a beautiful town, with its advantage of pure air, beautiful surroundings and charming scenery. No stranger ever visits this locality without being charmed with its hills and valleys. If we ascend "Siegfried's Hill" west of town, an unobstructed view of the Monocacy and Lehigh Valleys is had for miles, affording a panoramic scene that seems to dissolve in the haze of the distant mountains.
To the north and west, stretches the Kittatiny or "Endless Mountains'" and as the eye ranges along its summit, it notes the singular clefts in the range known as the Lehigh and Delaware Water Gaps and the Wind Gap. To the east are visible the lofty church spires of the Moravian town of Nazareth, five miles distant. To our south, lie the South or Lehigh mountains and the city of Bethlehem, with the distinguished seat of learning, Lehigh University, while to the west is clearly seen parts of the city of Allentown, Catasauqua and Northampton. Bath is in reality a part of the Scotch-Irish Settlement which was established in 1728, being the first settlement by white people within the Forks of the Delaware. Bath was laid out by the Scotch-Irish prior to the Revolution. It takes its name from Bath, England, through Margaret DeLancey, a native of that place, who sold tracts of land in this locality to some of the earliest settlers. Mrs. DeLancey was the daughter of William Allen, who served as a lieutenant colonel in the Continental army, but raised a regiment of loyalists in 1778. Bath can authenticate the first white settler's purchase of a parcel of land within the boundaries as it stands today, to the year 1737 when 247 acres of land were purchased and surveyed for Daniel Craig. The lands we talk about are situated along Chestnut Street and to the north of Northampton Street.

The lands to the east of the Monocacy, upon which the greater part of Bath lies, remained in William Allen's ownership. In 1776 he conveyed this to his son, Andrew. In 1776, Andrew Allen made an agreement to sell 150 acres to John Lattimore. Andrew Allen also owned the lands on the western bank of the Monocacy. These were confiscated in 1778 and sold to John Sterling, who in turn, sold acres to the Ralston, Berger, Siegfried, and Hirst families. The Siegfried home is a genuine log cabin, standing faithful to its forbearers on West Main Street.

he Nazareth Area School District is located near the eastern border of Pennsylvania, in Northampton County. The district is immediately north and west of the cities of Bethlehem and Easton and includes the boroughs of Nazareth, Stockertown, Tatamy and the townships of Bushkill, and Lower and Upper Nazareth. Institutions of higher education are easily accessible from the Nazareth area and include Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, East Stroudsburg University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian College, Muhlenberg College and Northampton Community College. Residents speak with pride about the strengths of their schools and, in turn, the accomplishments of their students. Youth sports teams, performing groups and other youth organizations raise impressive funding and attendance levels in the Nazareth-Bath area, consistently demonstrating strong support and commitment to its youth. 16 ~

eThe School District is a combination of rural and suburban areas with farming, industrial and professional work sites throughout the area. eThe School District enrollment is approximately 4,710 students within three elementary schools, an intermediate school, a middle school and a high school. eThe elementary schools house grades K-3 and serve as primary learning centers, with an enrollment of 1,288. eThe intermediate school, which houses grades 4, 5, and 6, has an elementary school focus and operates in a “School within a School Concept,� has an enrollment of 1,067. eThe middle school houses grades 7 and 8 and provides students with a team-based, fundamentally challenging core academic program and an exploratory curriculum that will expose students to other various programs. They have an enrollment of 749 students. eThe high school, with grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, has an enrollment of 1,608 students. Students in the Bath area attend schools in the Northampton Area School District. The schools offer similar programs to the Nazareth schools. Both School Districts offer extensive extracurricular programs in music, drama, athletics and others. There are several private schools in the area offering programs unique to the philosophy of the school.

T
here are numerous private and government retirement facilities in the area. The services range from 55 and older communities, independent living, assisted living and full-care facilities including dementia units. Many of these facilities provide transportation for residents so that they may enjoy shopping, dining and other activities. Our chamber offices would be happy to provide additional information on these member locations.
Moravian Hall Square Moravian Hall Square is nestled on 15 acres in downtown Nazareth and the foothills of Pennsylvania’s Blue Mountains, offering convenient and beautiful settings for retirement living. The town’s offerings — including shops, churches, restaurants, public library, YMCA, banks and medical offices — are just a short walk away. Moravian Hall Square, which opened in 1988, has been a resource to the community by providing free programming, all with different themes such as education, entertainment, health and wellness via Senior Pathways, arts and artists, lunch and learn, and wellness and vitality. speaker’s bureau, provide informative programs to civic clubs and businesses on different important topics for seniors. Both residents and staff have made a concerted effort to support local charities, including the Nazareth Area Food Bank, Alzheimer’s Association and Nazareth Vigilance Hose. Another way to serve the community is by providing meeting space to various civic organizations. The Nazareth-Bath Area Chamber of Commerce Board, the Nazareth Area Rotary Club and the Nazareth Area Ministerium hold their regular meetings in Moravian Hall Square. Special events also take place here such as the Chamber’s annual holiday breakfast and the Nazareth YMCA’s annual Good Friday Father and Son Breakfast. It is easy to enjoy the convenience of a central location, great food and an accommodating staff. Moravian Hall Square hosts summer outdoor concerts, health fairs and a bi-annual chamber mixer in conjunction with KNBT/National Penn and St. Luke’s University Health Network that attracts businesspeople from all over the Lehigh Valley.
Moravian Hall Square is truly an important part of the Nazareth area as a partner and economic resource. The hall is a nationally accredited continuing care retirement community that provides more than 350 jobs and real estate taxes to Nazareth Northampton County and the Nazareth Area School District.

HCR ManorCare Easton ManorCare Easton, located at 2600 Northampton St. in Palmer Township, has been serving the community for over 25 years. We specialize in short-term rehabilitation and complex medical care. Our 40-bed MedBridge unit, which opened in 2008, is geared toward the short-term patient who plans on returning home after a surgery or illness. Our team of clinical experts will help prepare you to return back to the community. We also offer long-term care, hospice services and respite care.

esidents of Lehigh Valley have numerous healthcare facilities nearby to attend to their needs. Hospitals, clinics and emergency treatment centers are available with healthcare professionals available to meet the general and specific medical/dental needs of all residents. Specialized services are coordinated through the office of Human Services in Hampton County, which provides specialized services for those in need. In addition, a number of agencies provide specialized services for those requiring individualized care. Information for these services is available via the hospitals, chamber of commerce, United Way, or the Yellow Pages. Emergency services (ambulance, fire, police) are available in all communities in the Nazareth-Bath area. Pharmacies and medical equipment companies are located throughout the Nazareth-Bath area to accommodate the needs of residents.
The Wellness Committee of the Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce The Wellness Committee of the Nazareth-Bath Area Chamber of Commerce is a combination of businesses that provide medical and natural disciplines to promote wellness. Products and services range from fitness, weight loss, skin care, chiropractic, dentistry, assisted living and traditional medical care. The committee also has providers that promote aging in place, cancer awareness and care as well as insurance providers to cover the cost of many of these services. The Wellness Committee also offers a complimentary speaker’s bureau that is available to area businesses and organizations on a multitude of topics. The committee, founded in the fall of 2007, is very active in the community, providing and taking part in health fairs for many
area businesses as well as offering free services as senior housing and community events. The Wellness Committee’s mission is to educate the community residents about integrating health support services for wellness and recovery by introducing available medical and natural health services and products.
