these accolades comes from the Marshalltown YMCAYWCA. On a Tuesday, the Y received a “canyou-help-us-out-of-a-pinch call” from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union who, due to a mechanical issue, needed a new venue for that Saturday’s regional swim meet. An incredible task to pull off in just four days, the Y’s CEO proudly reported that all the critical positions needed to make the event happen were filled within 48 hours. “That’s how Marshalltown responds,” she said. “We have tremendous volunteers here, and that was a big selling point [to the athletic union] along with our facility.”

HISTORY OF INNOVATION & QUALITY

INDUSTRY LEADING EXPERTISE

COMMUNITY PRIDE AND SERVICE

Lennox’ long heritage of innovation was founded more than a century ago in Marshalltown, Iowa, by Dave Lennox. It started with that first riveted-steel furnace in 1895, and the legacy continues with exclusive technologies that deliver the ultimate in quiet, comfort, clean air and consistent heating and cooling. We continue to build our reputation everyday with our commitment to the core principles of trust, innovation and quality. It is this commitment that has enabled us to continually produce industry-leading HVAC products and to be the first HVAC manufacturer in the nation to become ISO certified.

Today, the Lennox Marshalltown factory is a thriving one-million square-foot facility that employs nearly 900 people from an 80 mile radius. The Marshalltown factory makes a variety of Lennox products including the Dave Lennox Signature® Collection and Elite® Series furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps. We stay on the cutting edge of innovation with in-house teams of patentwinning engineers supported by a full suite of high tech equipment typically reserved for automotive and aerospace manufacturing. Our skilled teams of engineers, machinists, and tradesmen apply 100% of themselves to the design and manufacture of Lennox heating and cooling products. Through a precise process, they make sure every unit that goes off the line and out the door meets our intense quality standards.

From our very foundation, giving back to the community has been important to Lennox. The factory employees take part in many Marshalltown charitable events, including the Lennox/Quakerdale Annual Pro-Am Golf Tournament, which has been taking place for over 30 years. During that time, the event has contributed over $1.85 million to Quakerdale and the children they serve. The Marshalltown factory also has a Charitable Giving Committee that reviews local requests from schools, community events, fundraisers, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Crime Stoppers, and more. These are just some of the ways that the Marshalltown employees support the town they have been proud to call home for over 120 years.

WE ARE DEDICATED Lennox has set the standard and we continue to push the standard forward. From those humble beginnings, more than a century ago, Lennox has grown into an international company touching much of the world with heating, air conditioning and refrigeration products. At Lennox, we have been – and always will be – dedicated to supporting our employees and community, as well as serving our partners and customers with best-in-class products and support.

STEM Education Marshalltown is proud to have had a hand in initiating an inaugural STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education program in Iowa. In 2015, the Marshalltown education and business communities came together to help establish the pilot program for student summer STEM camp. The program has taken off and is going strong. • Spatial Temporal Math (ST-Math): In 2017, thanks to a generous grant from the Governor’s STEM Council and the partnership of the local business community, the Marshalltown Community School District enhanced its curriculum by adding Spatial Temporal Math (ST-Math). This game-based instructional program, integrated in the pre-K to 6th grade curriculums, is designed to boost math comprehension and proficiency through visual learning. • Project Lead the Way: As a state leader in Project Lead the Way, the school district offers the inspiring program both in their elementary

schools and to Marshalltown High School students via such classes as engineering and biomedical science. These curriculum offerings at all grade levels promise to help advance math and science interest and enthusiasm for every student.

HOUSING AND REAL ESTATE

HOUSING AND REAL ESTATE

Y

oung professionals, families and retirees alike have all found good reasons to call Marshalltown home. An impressive array of housing styles, price ranges and neighborhoods means that no matter what stage in life you are, you can find the home that best suits your lifestyle.

Classic neighborhoods • Early days: In the early days of Marshalltown’s development, residential housing tended to cluster in the northwestern portion of the town, conveniently located near the scenic Iowa River. • Today: Historic residences, in the Tudor, Victorian and traditional styles, stand as a tribute to Marshalltown’s past. • Examples: The stately Willard Mansion and exquisite Binford House are both on the National Register of Historic Places. For those interested in living in the classic styles of days gone by, housing opportunities – both renovated and awaiting restoration – abound.

New construction • The study: The results of the 2014 housing study commissioned by Marshall Economic Development served as a springboard for housing development. The study revealed housing needs and opportunities that were communicated to developers.

• The response: Since that time, single-family homes, workforce housing town homes, senior assisted living facilities (both new and expansions) and a new housing development have sprung up around the community. Some are completed; others are underway. But, all of them benefit the quality of life in the area and open up significant new housing choices for those in or relocating to the area.

Downtown loft living • On the upswing: One of the residential housing options that has increased in availability recently is downtown loft living. • Example: The Kibbey Building, built in 1895 by Dr. Kibbey to house his medical practice, suffered smoke and water damage in 2012 during a fire in the building next door. The owners of the Kibbey Building have since renovated the second level creating four beautiful loft-style apartments and are working on the main level as a potential business space. • Unique urban garden: As a further benefit, this and other downtown loft-style living opportunities are in the vicinity of the impressive Gallery Garden. A privately owned, urban-style green space that is open to the public, the Gallery Garden is the only project of its kind in Iowa. Its inspired designs feature paintings, sculpture, thousands of plants, the soothing sound www.marshalltown.org | 33

Senior Living The growing senior population of Marshalltown has equally growing housing options. Here are a few examples: • Marshalltown Senior Residences located in the beautifully renovated 1894-vintage Letts-Fletcher Building downtown. • The Willows of Marshalltown, which offers assisted living and memory care in a newly constructed westside facility. • The Embers, independent living for active seniors. • Bickford of Marshalltown, personalized assisted living services. • Glenwood Place Retirement Community, independent and assisted living in town home and apartment settings) • Accura Healthcare of Marshalltown, intensive medical and rehabilitative services for short and long-term care needs. • Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare, offering therapy services, holistic health care, hospice and respite care plus a memory wing. • Southridge Specialty Care, with rehabilitation services as well as skilled nursing, long-term and hospice care. • Iowa Veteran’s Home. Nestled in the beauty of nearly 150 acres, the veterans home provides a continuum of care to Iowa’s veterans and their spouses in an environment focusing on individualized services to enhance their quality of life.
