Sprawled over 20plus square miles, the Village is also home to the Windy City Bulls, the Chicago Bulls G-League, as well as a robust Park District which offers residents access to “first-class parks, facilities, programs, and services to meet the needs of a diverse and dynamic population.” Hundreds of acres of park land and forest preserve are also available to explore!

offman Estates offers numerous annual events that draw people together to celebrate, network, recreate, preserve cultural traditions and enjoy life. All events are open to the public, whether they are residents of Hoffman Estates or beyond.

Celebration of Excellence | January Presented by the Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Dinner recognizes the outstanding achievements and contributions of Chamber members. A yearly slide show reflects on the year’s accomplishments and showcases nominees.

Annual Mayor’s Breakfast | February Held annually in February, Hoffman Estates’ version of the State of the Union Address updates residents and business owners on new developments in the village. Mayor Bill McLeod and village staff share a multimedia presentation to update residents and businesses on new opportunities and construction plans, as well as future projects and community initiatives.

Bon Appétit Food & Drink Festival | April This exciting event showcases area restaurants and food purveyors, offering samplings of their unique cuisine. A community cupcake contest challenges local culinary college students to bake the perfect mini cupcake using Splenda sweetener instead of sugar. Tate & Lyle, the manufacturers of Splenda, awards scholarship money and culinary gifts to the winning student teams!

Community Fishing Derby | June This catch-and-release derby is held on Illinois’ “Free Fishing Day” when no one needs a fishing license to enjoy angling.

More than 500 enthusiasts attend, and prizes are offered for the longest fish caught by registered attendees in four age groups. The lake is stocked with tagged fish, sponsored by local businesses, and the lucky winners receive cash prizes for their catch.

Summer Sounds on the Green | June-August Enjoy eight weeks of Thursday night concerts at the Village Green next to the Sears Centre Arena, from early

June through the first week in August.

Sponsored by the Hoffman Estates Arts Commission, these free concerts feature music to appeal to all tastes – from pop to country, swing and a capella.

At Hoffman Estates’ own outdoor concert venue, blankets, chairs, food, wine and candles are all welcome. The on-site concession sells snacks, food items and spirits.

Northwest Fourth Fest | July Celebrate Independence day at Northwest Fourth Fest, a fun-filled three-day event held on the grounds of the Sears Centre Arena. The free festival features the region’s largest July 4 fireworks show, carnival rides, kids’ zone with games and activities, food from local vendors, a massive beer garden featuring local craft beers, pop-up water park, sand area, live music and plenty of free parking for all!

AMITA Fit for America Sports Festival | JULY This two-day active outdoor event focuses on running, walking and inline skating. Saturday’s activities include the free Kids 200 Meter Dash and a 5K, 10K and half marathon for adults.

Saturday evening wraps up with the family-friendly GLO-RUN through huge glowing inflatables and DJ sounds.

On Sunday, inline skaters compete in the nation’s second-largest inline skating marathon for teams and individuals with a recreational/fitness division and an elite/advanced division.

Platzkonzert Germanfest | September Join us for Platzkonzert Germanfest, a free annual event celebrating German music, dancers and food held at the Village Green on Prairie Stone Parkway.

The outdoor event features brats, sauerkraut, potato salad, strudel and other German fare, including beer and wine.

There is German entertainment for all ages, a 5K run through the Prairie Stone campus and activities for the children. The Hoffman Estates Park District’s portable climbing wall is transformed into the “Matterhorn” for the day, while a raucous stein-carrying contest adds to the fun for adults.

Illinois Legislative Luncheon | September Each autumn the Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce & Industry holds its annual Illinois Legislative Luncheon.

Illinois State Senators and Representatives lunch with the business community and brief the attendees on what is happening in Springfield. A panel of questions are asked and the attendees are also able to ask additional questions at the event.

Northwest Celtic Fest | OCTOBER Celtic Fest, a free indoor familyfriendly event, features Celtic musicians and dancers, beer samplings and

children’s activities. The arena concourse is filled with vendors selling Celtic-themed merchandise and food. Concession stands sell traditional Celtic treats like corned beef sandwiches and Sheppard’s Pie as well as family-favorite foods.

All ages will enjoy visiting with the “gentle giants,” massive Irish Wolfhounds, and up-close encounters with Wings and Talons, a group that rescues and rehabilitates falcons, owls and other birds of prey.

Friendship Tree Lighting | November Usher in the winter holiday season with the annual Friendship Tree ceremony at Hoffman Estates Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Rd. Hundreds gather to enjoy the lighting of the huge evergreen tree decorated with red bows. This free event features entertainment, refreshments and a special visitor for the children. The tree lighting is followed by an exciting fireworks show, a unique experience during the winter.

The village is home to one main hospital, AMITA Health. Its multiple care facilities include Alexian Brothers Behavior Health Hospital, St. Alexius Medical Center and the Alexian Brothers Women + Children’s Hospital. elcome to your new home in Hoffman Estates! As you settle in, you may have questions about village services and resources.

This checklist will provide you with the information you need as you set up your new home. For more information, visit the Village of Hoffman Estates at www. hoffmanestates.org.

Village Hall Hoffman Estates Village Hall, 1900 Hassel Rd. is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. To get the latest updates on village news and to sign up for the email newsletter, visit www.hoffmanestates.org.

Public Safety Services Call 911 to report emergencies within the village. The police nonemergency number is (847) 781‑2800. If it is not

possible to make a voice call to 911, Hoffman Estates residents can text 911 with a brief statement, location of the emergency and type of help needed.

Residents can also sign up for the emergency alert system, which sends out texts to inform the community of emergency situations. To register for the emergency alert system, visit https://member.everbridge.net/index/ (133) 261‑2387831962#/signup.

Solid Waste and Recycling Residents are charged monthly for garbage pickup. Recycling is free for all residents. Garbage pickup by Groot is every Monday for residents who live north of Jane Addams Memorial Tollway and every Wednesday for residents on the south of Jane Addams Tollway. Yard Waste Yard waste is collected from April through November, and pickup is available through a subscription service or by purchasing individual stickers.

Visit www.hoffmanestates.org for a list of acceptable materials.

Vehicle Stickers Vehicle stickers are not required.

Some neighborhoods participate in a free parking sticker program near Conant and Hoffman Estates high schools and the Alcoa Lane area. For more information, call the clerk’s office at (847) 781‑2625.

Water and Sewer Services Residents are billed monthly for water service. To set up water services, call the village hall at (847) 843‑4824 or activate your new account online at www.hoffmanestates.org/government/ fiance/water-billing. Report sewer-related

problems to the Public Works Department by calling (847) 490‑6800. Department hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

Utilities • Electric can be set up through ComEd by visiting www.comed.com or by calling (800) 334‑7661 • Natural gas is provided by Nicor Gas. Set up your account by visiting www.nicorgas.com or by calling (888) 642‑6748.

Cable TV Cable services that are available in Hoffman Estates include: • AT&T U-Verse or DirectTV. Check availability for your neighborhood by visiting www.att.com or by calling (800) 288‑2020.

Pet Licenses A registered pet tag helps families reunite with a lost fluffy friend. Yearly pet licenses are required for all pets age 6 months and older and expire on Oct. 31. Proof of rabies is required before receiving the license. Pet tag fee is $5 per pet. Residents may not have more than five cats or dogs. Village Board Meetings Village government consists of a mayor and six elected trustees who serve a fouryear term. Village board meetings are held

at 7 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month in the Village Hall Council Chambers, 1900 Hassel Rd. If residents are unable to attend the meetings, agendas, packets and minutes are available online at www.hoffmanestes.org.

Village Newsletter The Citizen is mailed monthly to every household and business, and is posted on the village website at www. hofffmanestates.org. Announcements include up-to-date events, activities, services and informative feature stories.
