Chamber President Welcome Hello Neighbor, Each and every year I look forward to this Chamber guide to keep me focused on who I need to keep top of mind and to show me a good portion of who is dedicated/ committed to our local communities. With running a business, along with being a resident in Elmwood Park, I truly know how important it is to be involved supporting one another in the community. From the get-go, I have always relied on this community guide and networking among other members to know who to rely on for the task at hand and I hope you will see it as a valuable resource as well.

With a highly productive 2019 for the Grand Corridor Chamber of Commerce, I saw firsthand how our Chamber connects and collaborates to help bring success with not only our particular communities, but spreading throughout Leyden Township. We have continued to be there for our current businesses/organizations, have stayed strong

with ongoing ribbon cuttings and supported our local organizations by spreading our consistent fundraising. We are constantly looking to expand our support to keep our business communities/organizations thriving.

Moving into 2020, we look forward to growing with you to kick off another strong decade ahead. Elmwood Park Village President Welcome I am pleased to report to the Chamber of Commerce that 2019 was a banner year marked with several new developments, new businesses and a strong economic base. The outlook for continued prosperity in Elmwood Park remains strong for 2020.

One of my administrator’s primary goals is to maintain a good quality of life for our residents. Elmwood Park has always been known as a “solid suburb”—one where people can live, work, shop and raise a family. By constantly looking for ways to bolster our business sector, I believe we can continue to enhance that good quality of life.

Our restaurant scene saw new additions both along North Avenue’s Restaurant Row and in the Village Circle and we continued to develop more parking for our restaurant patrons. Additionally, we showcased all of our fine eating establishments during Elmwood Park’s Restaurant Week in February. Elmwood Park received significant media exposure as a culinary mecca in the Chicagoland area.

Another exciting plan calls for the development of the former Sears Automotive site around the Harlem Avenue and North Avenue intersection. The portion of this corner that is in Chicago will see important development as well. Elmwood Park stands to gain significant economic activity from this development since they border our village and are within walking distance to many Elmwood Park businesses in the vicinity.

I am also proud to report that our community once again was recognized as one of the best run municipalities from a fiscal point

of view—always important to a vibrant business climate. My hat is off to the Village Board and our entire staff for continuing to manage Elmwood Park with fiscal discipline and responsible creativity. Perhaps most importantly, Elmwood Park continues tor receive recognition as one of the most desirable places to live in Illinois when measured for affordability, quality schools, low crime, and easy commute. Other studies have shown Elmwood Park to be one of the safest places to live in Illinois.

The Village also saw movement in our quest to build a railroad underpass on Grand Avenue as Cook County government granted resources to assist us to begin engineering on the project. While it is still a ways from completion, this movement was significant and points to the day when we will eliminate both the safety concerns and traffic delays caused by trains. More that 20,000 vehicles cross the Grand Avenue tracks each day and an underpass will keep everyone safe and translate into countless hours of saved time. It’s my hope that all that time can be used to enjoy the many amenities that Elwood Park offers, from our many events and festivals, to our seasonal celebrations. I am honored to work each and every day to make this place one that we are all proud to call home.

River Grove Mayor Welcome Welcome to the Village of River Grove, or more commonly referred to as the Village of Friendly Neighbors. I look forward to a busy and productive year ahead. One of the goals I strive for is service: service to our residents, community, business leaders and our seniors. We have just rolled out the startup of our very own Pace Bus program in River Grove. This program will allow our seniors and disabled residents to be transported to local shopping areas, doctor’s appointments and meetings.

At 132 years old, River Grove recognizes its aging infrastructure. We are committed to rehabbing our streets, sewers and alleys through a long-term, strategic plan. We have established partnerships and are making smart economical decisions with the help of our engineers and other professionals.

We have many green projects to keep our town vibrant. We are constantly looking for funding to help improve our town. In the past year our village has added 3 new green alleys and plans are underway for at least 3 more in 2020. This administration is committed to removing blight and enhancing green space.

(Veterans park, Lions park) through intergovernmental agreements, grants and private donations.

Economic development is important to our town. This past September we opened the doors to our first Starbucks at the corner of Grand and Thatcher. We continue to try and enhance the Grand Corridor with new businesses and opportunities We are fortunate River Grove is in a great location, and our real estate values are on the rise. Many high end residential housing units are under construction including single family homes, condos, and luxury leasing options. Developers are taking advantage of our location with transit-orientated developments.

Many of our residents are business professionals that take advantage of our Metra station, which is located near Grand and Thatcher and can get you to downtown Chicago in 20 minutes!

Investors and homeowners alike are enhancing and putting money into their homes increasing the overall look and value of our community.

It is such an honor for me to be Mayor of my hometown. River Grove is where I grew up and where I am raising my family.

The Village of Elmwood Park offers free rides through its Dial-a-Ride program.

Rides are available to Elmwood Park residents only, senior citizens (65 years old and older) and residents with disabilities or special needs.

Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. There is no service on Sundays. Service area boundaries are from Irving Park Road to Lake Street and from Narragansett Avenue to 15th Avenue.

Dial-a-Ride stops include Elmwood Park restaurants, markets, banks and the Metra station; Gottlieb Hospital; Harlem and Irving Plaza; Brick Yard Mall; Thatcher Woods Mall; Winston Plaza Shops and downtown Oak Park. Service is by appointment only and is subject to availability; arrangements can be made up to two weeks in advance. Residents are limited to two rides per week when the bus is available. Same-day service is not typically available. Cancellations must be made within 24 hours.

Leyden Township Services Established in 1850, Leyden Township government serves the residents in the Villages of Elmwood Park, River Grove, Franklin Park, Schiller Park and portions of the Villages of Norridge, Park Ridge and Rosemont and the City of Northlake. Also included in Leyden Township is a large unincorporated area.

At Leyden Township, our mission is to provide leadership and coordination to develop a community that is dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of life for our residents in Leyden Township. Our office staff is here to serve the many needs of our residents.

Whether the resident needs property tax information, senior services or one of the other numerous services we offer, our knowledgeable staff is ready to help from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Among our basic functions are human services, including the funding of social services and programs. We provide convenience services such as voter registration, and notary public as it relates to Township services. We are a resource for people in need and provide services that include assistance for those individuals and families who have fallen on hard times. The Needy Family Fund provides food baskets and other essentials for families in need year-round with larger provisions during the holiday season. Leyden Township accepts donations in the form of nonperishable foods and cash donations.

Donations are always welcome at the Town Hall.

The Assessor’s Office provides assistance to taxpayers, real estate agents, appraisers and municipalities on property tax related matters that include:

• Completing exemption applications • Assistance with assessment questions • Filing appeals with Assessor’s Office and the Board of Review • Assist with application for Certificate of Error • Filling out form for name and address change • Sales transfer history available • Sidwell maps available for public use • FREE Notary Public service for all assessment related documents.

The Leyden Township Veterans Affairs coordinator assists veterans with their needs and concerns. Leyden Township Commission for the Disabled and the Leyden United Senior Committee provides funding for senior programs throughout the Township.

Leyden Township sponsors many programs for senior citizens throughout the Township including Exercise Sessions, 55 Alive, Rules of the Road classes, Telephone Reassurance and the Handyman Program.

Seniors can also attend social events at the Carl Fiorito Senior Citizen Center located at 2601 Mannheim Rd. in Franklin Park.

Seniors can obtain Subsidized Taxi Coupons, RTA Reduced Fare Cards and Handicap Parking Permits at The Town Hall, located at 2501 Mannheim Rd., Franklin Park.

Our Community Center offers a wide variety of programs for the young as well as young-at-heart. Brochures are available at the Bradly A. Stephens Community Center located at 2620 Mannheim Rd., Franklin Park.

In order to make the trips available to all of our seniors, we do our best to keep the cost of the trips as low as possible.

Booking early gives everyone a chance to go. Deposits are required at time of reservations. Cash or checks are accepted for deposits and payments. When booking more than one trip at a time, separate checks must be made out for each trip.

Each trip is its own entity. Balances are due 35 days before the trip date.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Theater tickets, shows and special events are non-refundable. Our goal is to give a refund only if we can find someone to replace you on a one-day trip. Otherwise, we suggest you find someone to take your place or give the ticket to a friend as a gift.

Trips are on a time schedule, and it is our policy to leave promptly at the stated departure time. We are unable to wait for late arrivals. We regret that no refunds can be given to seniors who miss the motor coach.

All seniors are required to notify Tina Gordon if there are any last-minute changes. After 5 p.m. leave a message at (708) 452-3962. All trips are subject to change without notice.

SENIOR ADVOCATE Laura Bilben is the Senior Advocate for the Village of Elmwood Park.

The Senior Advocate Program connects residents with various community resources that are available to senior citizens. Senior Advocate drop-in hours are Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., or call Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (708) 359-0143.

RIVER GROVE SENIORS The River Grove Senior Citizens Club, a nonpolitical, nonsectarian and nonprofit organization, is open to adults age 55 years or older. Meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month at noon in the American Legion Recreation Center, 8664 Grand Ave., River Grove.

Trips, entertainment, speakers, community service and various luncheons are part of the group’s proceedings. Bingo and card games are played after the meeting and light refreshments are served.
