Tenne

The City of Piperton was incorporated in 1974 and is the key gateway between Fayette and Shelby County, Tennessee. We are located in the southwest corner of Fayette County. Our city has the highest median home value and the lowest property tax in West Tennessee.

Due to the excellence exhibited by our full-time Piperton Fire Department, the city has an ISO rating of 3. And thanks to the dedication of the Piperton Police Department, the city has been selected the safest suburb of Memphis. Last year, Piperton was also selected the number one city in which to retire. Residents of Piperton have varied reasons for living here, from the friendly community feel, to our outstanding city services and centralized location. We are only minutes from the Wolf River Conservancy where you can enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, as well as kayak and canoeing. Travel is made easy to Collierville, Memphis, and other surrounding cities with the use of Interstate 385 and 269. The businesses that call Piperton home have the benefit of being centrally located within an economic corridor connected by major highways and thoroughfares. Although we are praised for the attribute of a small community atmosphere, we always welcome opportunities to accommodate new growth. While we still remain small in comparison to some of our neighboring cities, we are experiencing tremendous growth, both residentially and commercially. However, despite the growth, Piperton still has that small town appeal that only a small community can offer. Whether you are seeking a new place to call home or you are just passing through, we welcome you to become part of our plan - “A Better Community Built on Small Town Values.

would not exist if it wasn’t for the McCraw family who built the first town store in 1909 that sold nearly every item one would need for early 20th century life. A town staple is the smallest post office in Tennessee, built 80 years ago, that boasts original wood and metal boxes for mail storage. www.fayettecountychamber.com/communities/braden

G A L L AWAY Gallaway is located in the northwestern of Fayette County. The Loosahatchie River, a branch of Mississippi, streams through the city’s southern boundaries from east to west. Originally Gallaway and Braden comprised the single town of Concordia. In 1855, the town was renamed for J.M. Gallaway, a mill operator. In 1966 Gallaway became a municipality. www.fayettecountychamber.com/communities/gallaway

SOMERVILLE In the middle of the county lies Somerville, named for Lieutenant Robert Somerville who fought in the War of 1812 and was killed in Battle of Horseshoe Bend. In 1832, George Bowers bought a piece of land for $50 to establish a female seminary. For 70 years, the Somerville Female Institute thrived, and higher education was a priority. In 1836, Somerville was chartered as a town. As the 19th century came to a close, the institute and academy for males merged into the first public school, Fayette County High School. Somerville is also a destination for fun and family sites, such as the De Terra Vineyard & Wines of Somerville and the Somerville Family Entertainment Center. The annual Cotton Festival, held in the town square

surrounding the Fayette County Courthouse, is a place for residents to gather and enjoy food, crafts, activities and entertainment.

Shop Local Magazine was founded in 2009 in Somerville, Tennessee, during one of the worst fiscal quarters of the recession. Its founding principle was to band local businesses together to offer goods and services to the local market and encourage consumers to shop at home, in order to help these businesses weather the economic storm. The idea was to empower struggling businesses to do something positive to maintain and even grow their businesses. In 2019, Shop Local is celebrating 10 years of enabling small businesses to use direct mail marketing, which most small businesses cannot afford on their own. Shop
