Elmwood Park Village President Welcome This year has been tremendous for the Village of Elmwood Park and 2017 promises to continue that trend.

Our administration has worked tirelessly over the last several years to complete our massive flood mitigation project which has helped to address chronic flooding throughout town and has resulted in 64 homes being removed from the FEMA floodplain map. Coupled with the completion of a street improvement program and construction of new homes and townhomes throughout the village, it’s easy to see why our home sales and property values continue to grow.

Elmwood Park always strives to be a place where businesses locate and invest. We worked diligently to make the new Walgreen’s store at North and Harlem a reality and we look forward to the opening of more new businesses in this coming year.

The village also worked hard this

year to improve parking near our Restaurant Row by building two surface lots and entering into a pilot program with New Star restaurant to share its parking lot with other businesses.

These improvements have resulted in a better dining experience for restaurant patrons as well as addressing concerns on residential streets in the area.

Infrastructure improvements in the village are always on our minds at village hall and I’m pleased to say that we have secured federal and county grants that will allow us to resurface both Diversey and Fullerton Avenues this year without the use of local dollars. The village administration also worked to secure a grant to streetscape the Conti Parkway Circle and Avenue of Flags, which will make the village’s front door all the more welcoming. We are excited to continue our efforts to revitalize the Circle.

The Circle continues to be a hub of activity in Elmwood Park hosting concerts, our car show and other activities throughout the year. Our newly built bocce courts have been

bustling with leagues and tournaments throughout the summer. Add in outdoor movies in the park, the Taste of Elmwood Park and Fall Fest and our residents are never lacking opportunities to recreate and get involved.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the $4.2 million in federal money that the Council of Mayors awarded to complete phases One and Two engineering of the grade separation at the Grand Avenue railroad crossing. We remain focused on making the underpass a reality and we are encouraged to take these first concrete steps in addressing this critical infrastructure improvement.

I look forward to working with our Village Trustees on the opportunities that 2017 will bring. Elmwood Park continues to be a great place for businesses and residents alike.

River Grove President Welcome I am very proud to have been appointed as the acting village president after the resignation of long time Village President Marilynn May on May 5, 2016. Having been a member of the board of trustees for the last 14 years, I have been able to step into this new role with confidence and the knowledge that my fellow board members and I will continue on with the same positive mission of continued improvement to our economic growth.

Since becoming acting president, my staff and I have frequently met with interested developers to discuss various parcels of vacant land and properties in need of redevelopment. An exciting opportunity for a large development exists with the relocation of the River Grove Public Works Facility. This property, located adjacent to the Metra station, offers an outstanding location for transit-oriented development that

could include retail shops, restaurants and assorted types of housing.

Additionally, the village has adopted a Grand-Thatcher TIF Redevelopment Project Area in an effort to further advance the commercial development of the Grand Avenue Corridor.

With respect to existing commercial activities, the Village of River Grove has welcomed back Quasthoff’s Flowers to its new location at 8125 Grand Ave. We are thrilled to have such an iconic and successful business back in town and as a member of the Grand Corridor Chamber. The Thatcher Woods Shopping Center has also been revitalized with the addition of Rich’s Finer Foods, D’Agostino’s, Ross Dress for Less and Kirlin’s Hallmark Shop, and a remodeling of the Binny’s Beverage store. These improvements have definitely brought the Thatcher Woods Shopping Center back to life and it continues to serve as a primary economic engine for the area. In addition to Thatcher Woods, Dunkin Donuts has opened a unique two-story store at Grand

Avenue and River Road, and this new concept has been a huge success. As always, we will continue to work with our state and county representatives to seek funding for projects that will enhance the community and attract new businesses and residents to our community.

In closing, the recent gains in the economy are encouraging and have prompted many individuals to open new businesses. The Grand Corridor Chamber of Commerce is a valuable resource for all business owners and organizations, and offers a wonderful environment to network and showcase your business to all aspects of the community. I encourage all of our local businesses and organizations to become a part of the Grand Corridor Chamber, as we continue to work with our neighbors in developing a strong and reliable economy for the businesses, organizations and residents of the corridor.

SENIOR DIAL-A-RIDE PROGRAM The Village of Elmwood Park offers free rides through its Dial-a-Ride program.

Rides are available to Elmwood Park residents only – senior citizens (65 years old and older) and residents with disabilities or special needs.

Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. There is no service on Sundays. Service area boundaries are from Irving Park Road to Lake Street and from Narragansett Avenue to 25th Avenue.

Dial-a-Ride stops include Elmwood Park restaurants, markets, banks and the Metra station; Gottlieb Hospital; Harlem and Irving Plaza; Brick Yard Mall; Thatcher Woods Mall; Winston Plaza Shops and downtown Oak Park. Leyden Township Services Established in 1850, Leyden Township government serves the residents in the Villages of Elmwood Park, River Grove, Franklin Park, Schiller Park, and portions of the Villages of Norridge, Park Ridge and Rosemont and the City of Northlake. Also included in Leyden Township is a large unincorporated area.

At Leyden Township, our mission is to provide leadership and coordination to develop a community that is dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of life for our residents in Leyden Township. Our office staff is here to serve the many needs of our residents.

Whether the resident needs property tax information, senior services or one of the other numerous services we offer, our knowledgeable staff is ready to help from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Among our basic functions are human services, including the funding of social services and programs. We provide convenience services such as voter registration, and notary public as it relates to Township services. We are a

resource for people in need and provide services that include assistance for those individuals and families who have fallen on hard times.

The Needy Family Fund provides food baskets and other essentials for families in need year-round with larger provisions during the holiday season. Leyden Township accepts donations in the form of non-perishable foods and cash donations.

Donations are always welcome at the Town Hall.

The Assessor’s Office provides assistance to taxpayers, real estate agents, appraisers and municipalities on property tax related matters which include: • Completing Exemption Applications • Assistance with assessment questions • Filing of appeals with Assessor’s Office and the Board of Review • Assist with application for Certificate of Error • Filling out form for name and address change • Sales transfer history available • Sidwell maps available for public use • FREE Notary Public service for all assessment related documents.

Leyden Township Veterans Affairs coordinator assists

veterans with their needs and concerns. Leyden Township Commission for the Disabled and the Leyden United Senior Committee provides funding for senior programs throughout the Township. Leyden Township sponsors many programs for senior citizens throughout the Township including Exercise Sessions, 55 Alive, Rules of the Road classes, Telephone Reassurance and the Handyman Program.

Seniors can also attend social events at the Carl Fiorito Senior Citizen Center located at 2601 Mannheim Rd. in Franklin Park.

Seniors can obtain Subsidized Taxi Coupons, RTA Reduced Fare Cards and Handicap Parking Permits at the Town Hall, located at 2501 Mannheim Rd. in Franklin Park.

Our Community Center offers a wide variety of programs for the young as well as young-at-heart.

Booking early gives everyone a chance to go. Deposits are required at time of reservations. Cash or checks are accepted for deposits and payments. When booking more than one trip at a time, separate checks must be made out for each trip. Each trip is its own entity. Balances are due 35 days before the trip date.

CANCELLATION POLICY Theater tickets, shows and special events are nonrefundable. Our goal is to give a refund only if we can find someone to replace you on a one-day trip.

Otherwise, we suggest you find someone to take your place or give the ticket to a friend as a gift.

Trips are on a time schedule, and it is our policy to leave promptly at the stated departure time. We are unable to wait for late arrivals. We regret that no refunds can be given to seniors who miss the motor coach.
