Once in a while a product comes along and changes everything, from the way it’s crafted to the way it works. Products are often copied and many are great ideas that never really see true success in their application. Many years are spent searching for a product that will ultimately surpass expectations, stand the test of time and become recognised as the leader in its field.
We created one of those successful products nearly two decades ago and still today it has never been equalled.
Why?
Because we have never compromised on quality.

Major proposals to strengthen the construction products used in buildings across the country have been published in a crackdown on unregulated practices and weaknesses that are undermining the construction sector.
The Construction Products Reform White Paper sets out that all products must be properly assessed before being used in the building process.
Currently only around a third of constructions products are regulated - the new general safety requirement will mean that all products undergo the proper checks, not only keeping people safe in their homes, but boosting the economy and providing confidence to developers to build the 1.5 million homes this country needs.
The Government has published a consultation on this requirement today, with secondary legislation expected later this year and all changes coming in as soon as Parliamentary time allows.
The proposals come as the government publishes the first Annual Report on the implementation of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations – which sets out that 12 recommendations, including bringing government fire safety

functions under the control of one department and Secretary of State, have been completed. Over 40 (70%) of the recommendations are also expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Minister for Building Safety, Fire and Democracy Samantha Dixon said: “The failings outlined by the inquiry exposed fundamental issues in product, building and fire safety standards and through the Construction Products White Paper and our work to implement all the recommendations of the inquiry, we will create a better system for millions of people across the country.”
Interim Chief Construction Advisor, Thouria Istephan, said: “We must strive to continue to make lasting and progressive change that improves the safety and quality of both new and existing buildings and, crucially, place people who live and work in buildings at the centre of our thinking.”

A more joined-up approach to landscape specification For over a century, Marshalls has helped shape the UK’s built environment. But today’s challenge isn’t just selecting products –it’s ensuring every part of a landscape works together.
In practice, surfaces, elements and details are often specified at different stages, creating coordination risks and impacting performance. A more effective approach considers the landscape as a connected system from the outset.
Marshalls now supports this with a fully integrated product range – designed to work seamlessly together, alongside expert support through (MaDE), Marshalls Design and Engineering team. By resolving technical challenges earlier, specifiers can reduce risk, improve efficiency and deliver with greater confidence.

This prestige holiday home overlooking the River Avon estuary in South Devon underwent a major refurbishment in 2018, including repointing of its natural slate pathways, patios and terraces using traditional cement-based pointing. By summer 2025, the paving had deteriorated again, with cracked, failing joints creating both visual and safety concerns. The owners appointed Gorah Stone, specialist stone restoration contractors, to provide a more durable solution. The slate paving consists of irregularly sized slabs, and the work had to be completed during a short closure in October 2025 in an exposed coastal location with likely wet weather. The highly variable joint

widths and depths made cement-based mortars prone to cracking due to shrinkage and thermal movement. The tight programme also ruled out conventional systems that require dry conditions to cure properly. Gorah Stone consulted NCC Streetscape, who recommended GftK vdw 850 plus, a shrinkage-free epoxy mortar suitable for variable joints and wet-weather application. It can be installed in rain and cures without the need for dry conditions. With technical support from NCC Streetscape, Gorah Stone completed the repointing efficiently despite the weather, delivering a durable, long-term solution for the coastal environment.

Four specification considerations for pumped wastewater drainage
Matt Camille, Projects Support Manager at Pump Technology Ltd, highlights key factors specifiers should address when gravity drainage is not an option.
Modern building design often creates drainage challenges, requiring mechanical assistance to move wastewater uphill, making correct specification at the design stage critical to system reliability and long-term performance. One of the most common errors is tank sizing against peak inflow, where undersized tanks can lead to excessive pump cycling, accelerating wear and causing premature
failure. Pump performance curves should also always be matched to the calculated duty point of the installation, as verifying this early reduces the risk of selecting an unsuitable pump. In commercial applications, redundancy is essential; a single-pump setup creates a critical failure risk, so a duty/standby configuration is recommended to ensure continuous operation. Finally, isolation valve placement is often overlooked, yet essential for maintenance. Valves on both inlet and discharge sides allow servicing without draining the station, while clear identification supports safe maintenance and compliance.

Kooltech launches new heating and hot water control
Kooltech announces the launch of the KS1-BR41N, a new addition to their K-con bespoke solutions range. Also known as K-BRAIN, this innovative, self-contained control solution simplifies operation of the Mitsubishi Electric CAHV-R air source heat pump for managing both heating and domestic hot water (DHW) demands. Developed by Kooltech’s in-house experts, this cost-effective device removes the requirement for complex, expensive Building Management System (BMS) integration. The panel allows the user to set the DHW temperature and the flow heating
temperature. A 3-port valve is controlled to enable the system to enter defrost mode with flow returned to the heating buffer, even if there is a DHW demand; once defrost mode is over, the system reverts to achieving the set point. Managing the changeover between space heating and DHW production usually requires an expensive BMS solution, which results in higher costs, prolonged programming times, and complex commissioning. The KS1-BR41N overcomes these challenges by providing a dedicated, maintenance-free interface for the CAHV-R.

Assessing Indoor Air Quality and Mechanical Ventilation with HomeLINK
Martin Przewozny, Relationship Manager at Aico, used his own home to assess how ventilation systems perform in real conditions.
His 2013 property was fitted with a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system, designed to remove stale air and supply fresh, filtered air efficiently. However, due to poor installation, the system failed to control humidity effectively.
In April 2025, a full upgrade was completed. This included installing a correctly sized MVHR unit, replacing ductwork with rigid stainless steel, and upgrading vents and valves.
Martin’s home already uses Aico Environmental Sensors connected to the HomeLINK Gateway, enabling real-time monitoring via the HomeLINK app. This data provided clear insights into humidity patterns before and after the upgrade.
Post-installation results showed rapid humidity reduction after showering, less time at high moisture levels, and improved overall air quality.
This case highlights two key lessons: proper system design is essential, and data-driven monitoring provides clarity, helping housing providers ensure healthier, well-ventilated homes.

FSi Promat in the frame with third-party certified solution for shaft wall applications
FSi Promat now offers third-party certified solutions for its Stopseal® Batt and Flexi Coat® system and, with Siniat, provides a complete fire stopping package for shaft walls. Both Etex group companies conducted independent testing to confirm system performance and compatibility with Siniat shaft wall constructions. Because shaft walls often involve complex, non-standard configurations, traditional fire testing is limited. Third-party certification enables wider, more flexible application of the system while maintaining compliance with European standards including EN 13501-2 and EN 1364-1. The validation supports safer, more efficient specification across varied shaft wall designs and reduces project risk, cost, and complexity.

Pyroguard & Schüco install fire-rated façade at Belfast Grand Central Station
Pyroguard partnered with Schüco to deliver a fire-rated façade for Belfast Grand Central Station, a £340 million transport hub handling up to 20 million passenger journeys annually. Designed by RPP Architects, the station uses extensive glazing to maximise natural light and create an open concourse while meeting strict fire, thermal, acoustic and structural requirements. Working with Carey Glass and Williaam Cox, Pyroguard supplied over 400m² of Pyroguard Protect fire safety glass within Schüco curtain walling systems. Pyroguard Protect T-EI60/25-3 was selected for 60-minute fire resistance and large pane capability, maintaining clear sightlines while supporting the fire strategy and delivering strong safety performance. The façade was recognised at the 2025 Schüco Excellence Awards for its engineered design and integration.
