TGA warns the UK turf industry is at a defining moment The combination of increasingly frequent extreme weather, rising production costs and growing pressure on water resources is fundamentally changing the economics of turf production, the Turfgrass Growers Association has said. These are no longer short-term challenges that growers can simply absorb and recover from.
With 71.3% of England experiencing drought conditions in August 2026, following an exceptionally hot and dry summer and the driest July on record for England, turf growers are once again facing sharply higher irrigation costs, crop damage, increased waste and potentially lengthy recovery programmes.
The current drought is the third experienced in England in five years, following droughts in 2022 and 2025, underlining the increasing frequency of extreme conditions. Richard Owens, chair of the Turfgrass Growers Association, said: “With more than twothirds of England now officially in drought, the scale of the challenge facing turf growers has never been clearer. This is not an isolated problem affecting one part of the country or one difficult growing season. “The economics of turf production have changed, with growers facing substantially higher costs and greater production risk than in previous years. Individual businesses will need to assess those pressures within their own operations and make their own commercial decisions accordingly.”
“For landscapers and contractors, a healthy domestic turf-growing sector is essential. If growers are unable to maintain economically viable production, capacity will come under pressure and that could ultimately affect the availability of turf in the market.” Maintaining a resilient and economically viable sector is not simply about recovering the costs associated with one exceptionally hot, dry summer. Growers also need to invest in water storage, irrigation, machinery and crop management to build resilience against conditions that are becoming increasingly frequent.
landscaping and horticultural supply chain are facing their own cost pressures. That is why constructive conversations between individual growers and their suppliers and customers are so important. We need a supply chain that recognises the pressures facing all parts of the market and supports long-term resilience.
The TGA recognises that landscapers, contractors, sports facilities, housebuilders, local authorities and other customers are also facing their own cost pressures.
“The events of this year have highlighted how exposed turf production can be to prolonged extreme weather, but this is bigger than just 2026. The climate and cost environment in which we are growing turf has changed. If we want a resilient UK turf industry that can continue supplying landscapers, horticultural businesses and domestic customers with quality turf, the sector needs to remain economically viable and capable of investing for the future.”
Richard said: “We also recognise that businesses throughout the

Finalists announced for Horticulture foots bill as Landscape Institute Awards 2026 councils fail to collect recyclable plant pots A nationwide FOI investigation by the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) has found that more than half of councils in England are not fulfilling their legal obligation to collect nonblack plastic plant pots from households for recycling — and most of those councils say they have no plans to start.
The Landscape Institute Awards celebrate people, place and nature, and the myriad of ways the landscape connects them. They reflect the high standards of practice within our industry, with all entries judged according to core criteria in design, sustainability, value, and professionalism. After a detailed and rigorous judging process this year’s finalists have been decided. The finalists, from the UK and internationally, cover the full breadth of the profession, from large-scale masterplanning and regeneration to research, management and the work of students just starting out. The winners will be announced at the Landscape Institute Awards ceremony on Friday 13 November 2026 at The Brewery in London in front of an audience of over 400 peers, industry leaders and decision makers from across the natural and built environment. The winners from each category will also have the opportunity to win the coveted President’s Award, given to the best project of the year.
New for 2026, in addition to a winner, one finalist in every category will be Highly Commended. This recognises exemplary work that deserves its own moment in the spotlight and reflects the strength and range of entries from across the profession. The Landscape Institute Awards ceremony brings the profession together to celebrate achievements of those people making a difference through landscape and delivering positive outcomes for people, place and nature. An evening not to be missed. Dr Saira Ali FLI, President of the Landscape Institute, says: “Congratulations to everyone selected as a finalist in this year’s Landscape Institute Awards. The standard of entries has once again been exceptional, showcasing the creativity, expertise and dedication that exists across our profession. I would also like to thank every member of the judging panel for their time, care and professionalism in what was an exceptionally rigorous judging process.
“This year’s finalists represent the breadth and strength of landscape practice, from students taking their first steps into the profession to teams delivering transformative projects at every scale across the UK and internationally. Together, they demonstrate the vital role landscape professionals play in creating places that are more resilient, more nature-rich and better for the people and communities they serve. “At a time when society faces complex challenges, from climate resilience and biodiversity recovery to health, wellbeing and sustainable growth, these projects show the value of putting landscape at the heart of decisionmaking. They remind us that great landscapes enrich lives, strengthen communities and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
The findings come four months after the government’s Simpler Recycling reforms came into force, to make household recycling more consistent across England. The HTA is warning that millions of gardeners are being left in a recycling postcode lottery, while horticultural businesses could face an estimated £750,000 a year in additional Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees. It says the findings highlight a disconnect between national recycling policy and local delivery, leaving businesses bearing additional costs despite investing in recyclable packaging.
The FOI investigation, which contacted all 295 councils responsible for waste collections in England, found that only 44% currently collect nonblack plastic plant pots through household recycling services. A further 10% of councils say they plan to introduce collections, meaning that even if all those plans are delivered, only around half of councils would be collecting recyclable plant pots. This is well below the 75% collection threshold used by the government to determine whether packaging is widely collected at kerbside under its Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM), which is used to determine how much businesses pay in EPR fees. When looking at regionallevel data on the percentage of collection, there is a stark divide. Yorkshire and the Humber is the only region where collection reaches the
75% threshold, with 80% of councils collecting recyclable plant pots. At the other end of the scale, collection is just 25% in the North East and 27% in London. The FOI responses show significant variation in why councils are not collecting the material. Reasons include a lack of recycling infrastructure, limitations at Materials Recovery Facilities, existing waste contracts, reliance on Waste Disposal Authorities and uncertainty over the requirements or practical implementation of Simpler Recycling. In some areas, councils are waiting for new infrastructure before collections can begin, meaning householders could remain unable to recycle recyclable plant pots for years after the reforms came into force. Historic gardens and green spaces at risk over changes to planning rules The Gardens Trust has said it is devastated by the Government’s announcement that its role as a statutory consultee in the English planning system is being removed. The Trust is particularly concerned that proposals affecting the setting of parks and gardens will be excluded from the intention to notify us of planning applications. This puts the nation’s designed green space, created and enjoyed over hundreds of years, at immediate risk of harm through poorly-informed development, it claims.
Places include internationally famous and locally loved parks and gardens such as Hyde Park in London, Painshill in Surrey, Heligan in Cornwall, Chatsworth in Derbyshire, Wicksteed Park in Northamptonshire, Sheffield Botanical Gardens in Yorkshire, Birkenhead Park on the Wirral and Leazes Park in Newcastle. The Gardens Trust’s Chair, John Watkins, said: “It’s devastating news that the Government has removed key protection for parks and gardens by ending the Gardens Trust’s role as statutory consultee. This devalues these special places
and makes them vulnerable to poorly informed development.
for the peace and tranquility in which people can enjoy them.”
“We do however welcome the Government’s recognition that we play an important part in the planning process and will strive to continue to offer advice to local planning authorities on ways to ensure that historic parks and gardens can survive to support communities today and in future but the Government’s decision means that this will be limited to development within the green spaces themselves rather than including setting. This removes protection for the views to and from them, and
Since 1995 the Gardens Trust has been a statutory consultee in the English planning system, providing the primary mechanism for protecting the nation’s historic parks and gardens. As a statutory consultee, local planning authorities and the Planning Inspectorate must consult the Gardens Trust in relation to all planning applications that may affect historic designed landscapes on the national Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.
The Gardens Trust is the statutory consultee for sites on the Register at all Grades – Grade I, II* and II. (Historic England is additionally a consultee for Grade I and II*, but the Gardens Trust is the only consultee to also cover Grade II
sites, which make up c65% of Registered sites.) Image credit: James Rudoni. The Gardens Trust Enquiry 8

The announcement comes as the Green Flag Award celebrates its 30th anniversary. From the early foundations in 1996 in England, the Green Flag Award has grown annually to reach more than 20 countries across four continents – making it the
most widely established parks and green space accreditation in the world. The Green Flag Award recognises a wide variety of different types of parks and green spaces, such as Kurpark – a small neighbourhood park managed by a local hotel in Austria, and Parque da Cidade – the largest urban park in Portugal. Carl McClean, International Development Manager for the Green Flag Award, said: “It’s fantastic to see more parks and green spaces in Europe recognised with a Green Flag Award this year. “This often undervalued sector deserves more attention for the wide-ranging benefits these spaces bring to local, regional and national communities. Well done to everyone involved.” Green Flag Awards Enquiry 11

Green-Tree intensive roof garden substrate supports major development Lumina Village is a major Buildto-Rent regeneration development in Trafford, Manchester, forming part of a wider 120-acre civic quarter regeneration masterplan, delivering approximately 4,000 homes alongside commercial space, infrastructure, and an enhanced public realm. The Podium phase is a key part of this regeneration and comprises a 440-home Buildto-Rent development, including apartments and townhouses, with extensive podium landscaping, a half-acre rooftop garden for residents, and 5.4 acres of public realm. Origin Green-tech supported Wright Landscapes with the supply of 350m³ of Green-tree Intensive Roof Garden substrate for the podium and roof level landscape construction.
Wright Landscapes appointed their own independent soil scientist to test and verify the suitability of the Green-tree Intensive Roof Garden substrate supplied for the project. The material was assessed and confirmed to be suitable for intensive roof garden applications, meeting the requirements of the project specification. This verification process included assessment of the substrate composition against the project specification, focusing on particle structure, organic matter content and overall stability. Drainage and water-retention characteristics were evaluated to ensure performance under roof-garden conditions and to confirm suitability for the proposed planting palette and establishment strategy. Following this process,

Having spent 38 years at Grimsby Golf Club, Head Greenkeeper Scott Vincent has seen every challenge the British climate can throw at a golf course – particularly during wet winters. With member expectations for year-round play, and only four greens equipped with drainage systems, achieving consistency and keeping on top of organic matter accumulations was becoming a particular problem. That was until Scott trialled ThatchEater from Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS). ThatchEater is a biological solution designed to degrade thatch with bacteria, causing minimal disruption to play. into plant-available nutrients, creating a freer-draining rootzone and encouraging sustainable plant growth through the season. After just one application, and another very wet winter, Scott says the results became quickly noticeable. “We definitely saw a marked reduction in thatch accumulations compared to previous years and I strongly believe ThatchEater played a role in keeping us off temporary greens for the first year in a long while,” he continues. “The members also noticed the difference, especially because we haven’t been conducting the disruptive hollow coring.” Origin Amenity Solutions Enquiry 15

Jim Croxton joins Amenity Forum board “The Amenity sector is extremely complex, with many distinct subsectors within it – golf, local authority landscapes, sports turf, highways, public spaces,” he explained. “Whilst a much smaller sector than agriculture it is critically important to business, travel, leisure and recreation so it is vital that it has a strong representative body that can present a coherent message to regulators and stakeholders. Jim Croxton, Director of the Amenity Forum and Chief Executive Officer of the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), says his passion for professional recognition, education and helping to raise the profile of the amenity sector is the reason he joined the board of The Amenity Forum. For more than 15 years, Jim has worked to champion the greenkeeping profession, supporting the education, development and recognition of those responsible for maintaining the UK’s more than 2,600 golf courses. Through BIGGA, he has helped promote continuous professional development, innovation and the sharing of best practice across the industry. As environmental expectations continue to evolve and the management of green spaces comes under increasing scrutiny, Jim brings a strong commitment to professionalism, collaboration and evidence-based decision making to the Amenity Forum Board.
“The opportunity to help ensure we collaborate effectively and are well represented is important to my part of the industry and to me. Coming from a committeebased organisation I felt I had something to offer.
He added that Integrated Pest Management is fundamental to turf management. It encourages practitioners to understand the causes of problems before deciding on the most appropriate course of action. “By combining prevention, monitoring, cultural practices and targeted interventions, IPM supports healthier turf, more resilient landscapes and responsible use of plant protection products,” he said. “It is about making informed decisions rather than relying on any single solution.” Amenity Forum Enquiry 16

Non-Staining Paving Jointing and No Shrinkage Cracking For Contractors: ‘No Delays - No Staining - Paid on Time!’ For Owners: ‘No Delays - No Staining - Back in Service on Time!’ GftK vdw 850 plus hardens quickly in the joints, to get areas open and/or back into service as fast as possible, then it can withstand the toughest exposure and service demands. Suitable for all types of paving from domestic patios and driveways, to paving around retail and commercial centres, and for heavily trafficked paved roads and other public areas such as market squares. No Shrinkage Cracking A further advantage of using GftK vdw 850 plus, is
that by hardening through internal cross-linking, unlike cement mortars, there is no short- or long-term shrinkage and consequential cracking problems, which are the root cause of many joint failures. This also makes it the perfect solution for joints with variable widths, for example in the repointing of traditional Yorkstone and historic slate slabs or granite setts, as well as in Crazy Paving, which seems to be coming back in fashion. This ensures long-term shrinkage free performance, plus being tough and resilient, it can withstand highpressure jet-washing and even mechanical streetcleaning machines.
No Staining GftK’s vdw 850+ Paving Jointing Mortar has a unique formulation that was developed for ease of application and high-performance in service, for optimum durability. The inclusion of this ‘2ndgeneration’, water-dispersed epoxy technology is exclusive to GftK in Germany, and this is used to precoat the specially graded, spherical, alluvial glacial sands, which are effectively the fine ‘no-fines’ sand / aggregate component of the product. This provides the high flow characteristics and self-compacting capabilities, for the most efficient wet-slurry application, plus this high internal cohesion of the mix prevents the separation and resin loss that occurs with inferior resin jointing products and leads to the contamination and staining of natural stone and porcelain paved surfaces - Even if the manufacturers and suppliers call it a temporary sheen. It still looks terrible and takes a lot of effort to clean, or a long time to ‘weather-off’, especially on lighter and more permeable and sensitive natural stone. This is why it is ‘the wetter the better’ at the wet-slurry stage, to the extent that this could cause separation and loss of performance with the other epoxy paving jointing products on the market. This unique product mix and combination is also what provides the optimum correlation of strengths (i.e. tensile, compressive and e-modulus), giving the highest performance and durability for a long, troublefree service life. By selecting GftK vdw 850 plus for jointing in your paved areas, you have no worries about staining, and none of the annoying cement haze to spoil the appearance that you get from all cement-based jointing materials. No Waiting For Dry Weather & A Dry Forecast Designed to help you start and finish paving jointing on schedule, despite wet weather
forecasts, the extended flow characteristics of GftK vdw 850+ allows the optimum use of wet-slurry application techniques, with the extended flow spreading easily across the paved surfaces and into the joints. Here they displace any residual water with highly efficient self-compaction, and as a result, unlike with other products, there is no additional tooling and compaction required, so for another bonus, there is far less wasted material. With the advantages of GftK vdw 850 plus, and the finer grade GftK vdw 815 plus for narrow joints >3mm wide, you can plan to start, apply and complete your jointing and repointing works when you are ready and on schedule, not just when British weather cooperates! Precision and support at Royal Dornoch At Royal Dornoch Golf Club, one of the world’s most highly regarded links courses, maintaining exceptional playing surfaces starts with ensuring every cutting unit performs accurately and consistently. Head Mechanic Willie Nicholson has worked at the club for almost two decades and relies on a Hunter Jupiter ATI grinder to keep cylinders and bottom blades prepared to the required standard. Royal Dornoch’s relationship with Hunter Grinders stretches back even further, with the club having operated an earlier Hunter

Nearly 20 years later, the grinder continues to provide the precision the workshop demands. Its ability to relief grind, spin grind and grind bottom blades on one machine gives the team confidence that cutting units are returned to the correct specification, helping support a clean, consistent quality of cut.
“David’s always at the end of the phone,” says Willie. “When I first took over the workshop, he talked me through settings, what to look for and exactly what to do.”
Just as important is the support behind the machine. Throughout the Jupiter’s working life, Hunter Grinders has continued to provide technical advice,

Groundsman launches new website
SEPTEMBER 2026
Makita launches new 40vMax Ground Trimmer
Groundsman Industries Ltd was established in 1990 to develop and manufacture their unique range of elliptical plunge action turf aerators. The original Groundsman website was subsequently created to promote their products and for over 30 years has played a vital role in the success of the company. Billy Warke is the founder and managing director, an engineer at heart, he was responsible for the highly successful original aerator design but he acknowledges that having a great design and a quality product is only half of the equation. Groundsman’s new website is based on this new style of template and we invite you to have a browse
where you will not only learn about our aerators, core collectors, turf/ sod cutters and attachments but we are excited to tell you that we have been busy developing some new products, more about that later in the year. Our story since 1990 is well illustrated in About section on our new site, our journey and goals are ongoing and we encourage our
dealers and end users to assist us in that journey by contacting us via the ‘SEND YOUR FEEDBACK’ section in this new website. We will be exhibiting again in September at Groundsfest Stands OSA201 & 28A and then at SALTEX Stand C080 in November and BTME in January.
If you are planning to attend we invite you to visit us, we will be happy to greet and assist. For more information please visit our website www.groundsmanindustries.com Groundsman Industries Ltd Enquiry 38

been designed with a single sided, T-shaped hedge trimmer style blade, which sits at a 90-degree angle to the shaft.
With a self-standing, three-wheel design to ensure stability, the tool provides an effective cutting width of 500mm. In addition, to help make the task as hassle-free as possible, the ground trimmer features tool-less cutting height adjustment from the minimum 25mm up to the maximum 105mm with a handy, one-touch locking lever.
This makes effective cutting possible without having to swing a blade from side to side, simply by pushing the ground trimmer along with minimal effort. With an impressive performance – it achieves between 3000-4000 cutting strokes per minute. Additional advantages include that the UG001G is cordless, having a significant impact on freedom of movement and removal of trip hazards.
The three-wheel ground trimmer stands on its own, which is crucial to help reduce holding effort and user fatigue during extended periods of work. The large rear tyre also ensures it can move smoothly on uneven ground as well as making it easier to turn. During operation, users will also benefit from tool-less cutting height and handle height adjustment. With a soft start as well as constant speed control, the UG001G has
Powered by a 40V XGT® Li-Ion battery, it offers an approximate, continuous runtime on full charge of 2 hours 40 minutes on low mode, and 1 hour 30 minutes on high mode, making it an ideal option for tackling large areas of grass, sports fields, field ridges, roadsides and riverbanks. Finally, it also features a fold-away handle for easy and effective storage. Makita

Origin Amenity’s 20-20-30 supporting ITM The 20-20-30 Tank Mix Programme from Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS) has formed part of an Integrated Turf Management (ITM) programme for almost 20 years, providing turf managers with a practical approach to supporting plant health and resilience during periods of increased Microdochium pressure. The programme combines four complementary technologies in a single tank mix, each contributing to overall plant performance through different modes of action centred around four key principles: strengthen, support, condition and defend. 20-20-30 is made up of Seamac ProTurf Fe, which provides chelated iron, magnesium and seaweed extracts in a low pH
formulation that supports plant health while helping to create a leaf surface less favourable for disease development.
Tank Mix helps improve turf resilience during periods when Microdochium pressure is elevated.
Liquid Turf Hardener supplies readily available calcium and magnesium to strengthen cell walls and improve tolerance to environmental stress.
Supporting cell wall strength, plant nutrition, natural defence responses and leaf surface conditioning enables turf managers to take a more integrated, preventative approach to disease management.
Mantle combines essential micronutrients and Harpin Elictor technology to support plant health and stimulate natural defence responses, while Turfite Elite delivers potassium phosphite and salicylic acid to promote root development, plant vitality and systemic defence mechanisms. By addressing several aspects of plant physiology simultaneously, the 20-20-30

Kress provides efficient groundscare Forest Green Rovers’ reputation the most environmentally conscious football club in the world is reflected in every area of its operation, including the way its pitches and surrounding landscapes are maintained with Kress battery-powered equipment. Head Groundsman Nick Johnstone oversees both the stadium pitch and the club’s Eco Park training facilities, where sustainability plays a central role in day-to-day operations. To support the club’s environmental goals, Nick and his team have fully integrated Kress battery-powered equipment across the site.
“Sustainability is key for everything we do here at Forest Green and it touches all areas of the club,” said Nick. “From what we do in grounds care, to transport, energy and food. For us that means how we maintain our pitches and the products we can or can’t use.” The grounds team now uses a range of Kress battery-powered equipment including backpack blowers, for maintaining both the pitches and surrounding landscaping areas. Nick said the decision to work with Kress was driven not only by the performance of the equipment, but also by the company’s shared values around sustainability. Kress

Airion blower hits top marks at school Iain Ellis, Head Groundsman at Hutchesons' Grammar School, has highlighted the benefits of using the Pellenc Airion batterypowered blower. Sustainability is a topic which the school cares deeply about. "Hutchesons' is a very ecofriendly school, and we all have a part to play," he said. "I was instantly impressed as to just how quiet the equipment was," said Iain. "In this respect it is brilliant because we simply couldn't use our old two-stroke machinery when classes or exams were in progress. Furthermore, the Pellenc equipment offers far more protection to operators."
"The Airion blower offers us far more control than our old two-stroke blower,” he added.

In comparison, the FS900 from Baroness can be operated by one person and can complete a clean of the full pitch in roughly half the time, all while also applying significantly less weight across the pitch surface. Where the FS900 also differs from the alternative tools and techniques available is that it has been specifically designed to sweep and

clean the surface without causing damage to the turf. Traditional rotary mowers are usually set high to create a vacuum effect, but this can lead to issues with debris removal, particularly in wet conditions, and can sometimes result in the grass being inadvertently topped. Baroness

The search is on to recognise the UK's professional sprayer operators in the sports turf, amenity and landscape management industries. The Amenity Sprayer Operator of the Year (ASOOTY) Awards highlight best practice and experience in the challenging role of ensuring accurate application on all amenity surfaces. The Amenity Forum competition, supported by ICL and Syngenta, seeks to share guidance and advice that will raise the standards of spray application across the amenity industry. The ASOOTY Awards seeks entries from all sprayer operators across the amenity industry, including golf and sports turf, professional landscape management, industrial

The Awards’ fi nalists will be announced at the Amenity Forum Conference in October, with the overall winner presented at the prestigious BIGGA Awards ceremony at BTME in January 2027. Amenity businesses and sports turf managers are urged to actively encourage their sprayer operators to enter the awards this year. All ASOOTY applicants will also be entered into a competition to win one of five Syngenta Sprayer Calibration & Application Kits. Along with assessing operators’ skills of spray application and use of products, the ASOOTY judging panel also now incorporate the importance of
an integrated pest management (IPM) approach to any issues involving turf and landscape maintenance. Amenity Forum Chairman, Ian Graham, highlighted: “This competition seeks to highlight the remarkable talent that exists within our sector, and I encourage as many spray operators as possible to engage with the process. “Our industry has many highly skilled spray operators working within it, using a diverse range of products accurately applied through a huge range of complex application equipment. Past winners have ably demonstrated the professional approach to meeting these challenges.” Syngenta Enquiry 56

Cleaner fuel powers healthier operation The switch to Aspen Fuel has transformed operations for the Cowdray Estate forestry team– delivering significant health, safety and efficiency benefits to maintenance works across the 6,800 acres of managed woodland. Cowdray’s decision to start using Aspen two years ago has brought tangible benefits to both daily working conditions and long-term equipment performance. Assistant Forestry Manager
Kris Gillespie has worked at Cowdray for the last seven years and is part of an 11-strong team looking after the maintenance of the conifers, broadleaf high forest and chestnut coppice that make up 36% of the total footprint of the estate. “As soon as we started using Aspen, this all changed,” he said. “The fact that it’s odourless in operation not only brings real health benefits for the team, it is also really

Maintaining the grounds of Blenheim Palace is no ordinary task. As one of Britain’s most celebrated historic estates, spanning 5,000 hectares and welcoming around one million visitors each year, the standard of presentation must match the grandeur of its surroundings.
“One of the key reasons for staying with the Major TDR is the finish we get from the roller mower. The build quality, reliability and dealer support are all important factors for us.” The latest model has brought a number of improvements that make day-to-day operations even more efficient. Hydraulic folding wings allow operators to stay in the tractor cab, while galvanised decks offer greater protection against corrosion.
For the estate team, the Major TDR Roller Mower has become a trusted partner in achieving that standard. After nine years of service from their previous machine, the decision to invest in another Major TDR was an easy one.
For Charlie Gerring, who works in estate maintenance, it’s the visible results that make the difference. “The quality of cut and finish from our Major TDR is fantastic. I get great satisfaction when I’ve finished mowing and can see the nice straight lines across the grass. Visitors expect the grounds to be beautifully
Rob Burgess, Forestry and Cultivation Manager at Blenheim Palace, says the mower’s track record made it the obvious choice. “We had the previous Major TDR for nine years and it kept the grounds looking superb.
New levels of efficiency at Whalebone Golf Club Romford’s Whalebone Golf Club is discovering the many benefits of autonomous maintenance following the installation of a completely automated driving range system from GroundTech. Director Ed Blacker notes that the combination of ECHO robotics and the innovative Drop Pit wash return system has been pivotal to consistent presentation of the range and central to the venues wider growth and development.
After exploring available alternatives, Whalebone appointed robotic specialists GroundTech to install an ECHO RP1250 robotic ball picker, ECHO TM-1050 mower complete with deflection kit and the revolutionary Drop Pit wash return system – enabling ball collection and grass cutting to take place simultaneously and maintaining a constant supply of clean golf balls for the range. manicured and the TDR helps us achieve that.” Powered by a 120hp John Deere tractor, the mower handles the estate’s challenging terrain with ease, including the steep banks surrounding the lakes. Combined with the excellent service provided by dealer Farol Ltd, it continues to deliver the performance and reliability the team depends on. At Blenheim Palace, where first impressions matter and standards never slip, the Major TDR continues to prove why it is the mower of choice. For Rob, Charlie and the wider grounds maintenance team, it remains a machine they wouldn’t look anywhere else to replace. Major Equipment Enquiry 60

Etesia unveils innovative new AH75F Making its debut at the GroundsFest 2026 show, the new Attila AH75F, the latest addition to Etesia's renowned Attila range of professional brushcutters. Available in both petrol and electric versions, the AH75F introduces a flail mowing concept to the range, replacing the traditional rotary blade with a cutting rotor featuring 28 Y-shaped flails arranged in a helical pattern. This innovative design delivers finer shredding, improved distribution of cut material and exceptional performance in long grass, dense vegetation and demanding environments.
Designed with operator comfort in mind, the AH75F features an oscillating cutting deck that follows the contours of uneven ground, ensuring a consistent finish while helping to reduce operator fatigue. A height-adjustable handlebar with four positions, lateral offset for improved working on slopes, integrated handguards and neatly enclosed cables all contribute to a comfortable and practical operating experience. The machine can also be tilted into a vertical position, making routine cleaning and maintenance quick and straightforward.
Performance is equally impressive. A hydraulic transmission, differential lock and large-diameter wheels provide excellent traction, even on slopes of up to 20 degrees, while swivelling or lockable front wheels offer superb control when working on banks and uneven terrain.

CBRE chooses AS-Motor once again steep banks and difficult terrain to large open areas.
When CBRE, the world's largest commercial real estate services and investment company, renewed its groundcare fleet across the UK, it left the decision to the people who use the machines every day.
Many of the green spaces maintained by CBRE have little in common with traditional parks or amenity grass areas. Typical sites include telecommunications facilities, industrial premises and other technical locations.
The outcome was clear CBRE's groundcare teams chose AS-Motor. Their decision was based on years of positive experience in daily operation, combined with the machines' proven performance and reliability in the toughest working conditions.
As these areas are generally cut only once a year, CBRE's groundcare teams regularly face high grass, dense vegetation, brambles and the early stages of scrub encroachment.
As a result, both operators and machines are subjected to demanding working conditions. It is no coincidence that the teams once again selected AS-Motor. Machines from the southern German manufacturer have been part of CBRE's fleet for many years, with some units still performing reliably after eight or nine years of service.
Conditions also vary considerably from site to site, ranging from

in the latest fleet renewal. The new fleet has been tailored to meet the wide variety of applications encountered by CBRE's groundcare teams. It includes the AS 940 Sherpa XL and AS 1040 YAK XL ride-on high grass mowers, complemented by pedestrian high grass mowers, flail mowers, mulching mowers and several AS 30 WeedHex brush weeders for mechanical weed control on hard surfaces. The IceTiger Inox winter salt spreader from AMAZONE With the new IceTiger Inox and the smaller model, the IceTiger S Inox, AMAZONE is setting new standards in professional winter road gritting. These spreaders impress with a base hopper made entirely of highquality stainless steel and feature a belt floor and full ISOBUS compatibility – for precise, efficient and reliable spreading. The base hopper, made entirely of high-quality stainless steel, offers maximum protection against corrosion and ensures an exceptionally long service life for these winter salt spreaders. This design is specially engineered for continuous, arduous use under extreme conditions. Be it moisture, aggressive gritting materials such as salt, or freezing temperatures, the functionality of
hopper never fails, even under this most intensive use, thanks to the robust, quality stainless steel. The sturdy stainless steel construction of the hopper comes with a 7-year manufacturer guarantee against rust perforation. The hydraulically-driven belt floor ensures an even flow of material onto the disc. The machine is particularly suitable for spreading sensitive materials, such as pre-wetted salt or grit. It reduces wear and tear and ensures reliable, blockage-free delivery – even with varying material properties and especially at very low spread rates. The precise spreading disc enables working widths from 1.5 to 8 m, meaning that the IceTiger can be perfectly tailored to meet the demands of the area needing treatment.
The electric delivery point adjustment in conjunction with the automatic regulation of the spreading disc speed via ISOBUS is also a significant advantage. This allows the desired symmetrical or asymmetrical spread pattern to be set. The flexible adjustment of the working width of the spread fan allows the spreading width to be precisely set to cover either one lane of the road or both lanes at the same time if required. Critical areas such as junctions or bridges can also be gritted with double spread rate. The base version of the IceTiger Inox has a capacity of 1,000 litres. The IceTiger S Inox comes with a hopper capacity of 380 litres and is extendable up to a maximum of 920 litres. AMAZONE Enquiry 71
