BIGGA and GroundsFest announce strategic industry partnership
The British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), organisers of BTME, and GroundsFest are proud to announce a new collaboration aimed at strengthening both events while bringing together professionals from across the grounds care, landscaping, and golf sectors.
The partnership will see BIGGA and GroundsFest working closely on joint initiatives throughout the year, including attending and supporting each other’s events, hosting tailored educational content, and working together on joint marketing campaigns.
At the heart of the collaboration is a shared desire to encourage crossover between both event communities - helping professionals discover the value that each show offers.
It’s a fantastic opportunity for community-building and crosssector engagement.
Jim Croxton, CEO, BIGGA:
“We at BIGGA are hugely proud of our flagship event, BTME, and the positive impact it has, particularly on the golf greenkeeping industry on an
annual basis and at a perfect time of the year to give turf managers a much-needed boost, be that to their morale, their industry knowledge or their skill set.
“However, it is our ambition to engage with our members and the wider industry far more than just once a year.
GroundsFest provides us with a brilliant opportunity to do so at a different time of year and in a very different environment.
“We are looking forward to engaging with many greenkeepers at Stoneleigh Park this September and to working closely with GroundsFest on a number of initiatives to move our industry forward.”
Christopher Bassett, GroundsFest’s Event Director, said: “The two shows complement one another brilliantly - both in format and timing. BTME is a long-standing and special event, while GroundsFest delivers a dynamic, summer-based event where people can get hands-on with the latest kit.
“We’re proud to be working with BIGGA, a fantastic association,
and we believe this collaboration will bring real value to the industry. We very much see this as a long term partnership - action-driven and focused on delivering real benefits to the sectors we serve.”
Outside of the two events, BIGGA and GroundsFest are also exploring further educational opportunities.
BIGGA is widely recognised for its exceptional training and professional development programmes, and with the recent launch of the GroundsFest Academy, there is clear potential to co-develop training content that supports professionals across the entire industry - from golf greenkeeping to wider grounds and landscape management.
Celebrating 100 years of Fields in Trust
Fields in Trust has celebrated its Centenary by bringing together some of Britain’s leading sporting and environmental organisations, long-standing supporters, and FIT ambassadors to mark an extraordinary history of protecting the nation’s green spaces.
Attendees enjoyed speeches by Jo Barnett (Chair of the Board of Trustees), Chris Boardman CBE (Chair Sport England) and ambassadors Tony Juniper CBE and Gyles Brandreth, who reflected on the legacy of the charity and its continued relevance today.
The launch of a Centenary Pledge was central to the evening recreating FIT’s founding moment by uniting influential voices who understand the irreplaceable value of these spaces to communities’ physical and mental health, wellbeing, and social cohesion. It has safeguarded 4,000 sports pitches, 1,500 playgrounds and 1,200 parks across the UK.
FIT is working with signatories including Sport England, the Rugby Football Union, the Lawn Tennis Association, Groundwork UK and the
Town and Country Planning Association to help preserve these precious spaces in perpetuity.
Thanks to this new coalition of champions, with many more to come, FIT is now committing to guarantee at least one million more people will live within a 10-minute walk of a protected green space by 2030.
The evening concluded with a special video message from new President Jill Scott MBE, who spoke powerfully about her journey from her local pitches in Sunderland
As both events continue to grow, this partnership sets the tone for a more collaborative future for everyone working in grounds care, landscaping, and golf.

We preview GroundsFest this issue and it does not seem that long ago that we were highlighting its launch. Now in its third year, the event has certainly caused more than a stir and the mix of groundscare, landscaping, amenity and play equipment makes it an attractive proposition for many in the wider industry. Organisers seem to have hit on a successful formula of indoor exhibition spaces and outdoor demonstration areas, which provides plenty of opportunities for a wide range of companies to take part.
They have also injected something vitally important, fun. The post-show festival is a welcome opportunity to network easily and in a relaxed way and do that thing the industry does so well - socialise. With the addition of lawn mower racing this year and a few other innovations, GroundsFest is determined to ensure the exhibition experience is enjoyable as well as an important business event. It is one of the reasons BTME continues to be a favourite fixture in the exhibition calendar for so many. Perhaps there is little surprise BIGGA has entered into a formal partnership with GroundsFest. Such a link is likely to bring more positive changes for the industry. Add in the fact BALI is backing the Landscape Zone and other industry stakeholders are playing a role in GroundsFest and there’s no surprise Stoneleigh Park in September has quickly established itself as a favourite destination.
Elsewhere this month we look at a range of product areas, Hard & Soft Landscaping, Ride-on Mowers and Compact Tractors. There is also a look at Hedge & Verge Mowers and the latest industry news and case studies. We will hopefully see quite a few of you at GroundsFest in a few weeks’ time, where we will be giving away our now famous mini football with the latest copy of the magazine.
Have a great month everyone.

Best parks and green spaces announced as 2025 Green Flag Award winners
From scenic country parks to leafy city squares, a record-breaking number of green spaces across the country are celebrating achieving the international quality standard for parks and green spaces.
Across the UK, 2,250 parks and green spaces have reached the high standards required to receive a coveted Green Flag Award in 2025 – more than ever recorded before.
Environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy today revealed the winners, with successful submissions from across the country for a range of sites including world-famous city parks and small, local green spaces.
The Green Flag Award is the benchmark international quality classification for parks and green spaces, providing the high standards against which sites are measured, and which land managers, local authorities and volunteers pledge to achieve when applying for the award.
The scheme was launched 29 years ago, with the first awards given a year later, to recognise and reward the best green spaces in the country - four parks that received their first Green Flag Award back in 1997 have flown it every year since. They are: Cockington Country Park – pictured - Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust; Worden Park –South Ribble Borough Council; Queen’s Park – City of London; and Highgate Wood – City of London.
Parks are a vitally important part of this country’s green infrastructure, providing opportunities to improve physical and mental health even in the most built-up urban environments.
That’s why it’s important that parks are managed to the Green Flag Award standard, which accredits and recognises sites that meet the needs of the community, are well-maintained, safe and provide people with the opportunity to lead healthy lifestyles.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison OgdenNewton OBE, said: “Our quality parks and green spaces make the UK a heathier place in which to live and work, and a stronger place in which to invest.
“Through the Green Flag Award and our campaigning as a charity, we will continue to advocate for good quality green infrastructure that maximises benefits for people and nature, whether that’s through exercise and wellbeing, or playing a part in helping us mitigate and adapt to some of the effects of our changing climate.
“The Green Flag Award sets the standard for caring for these sites amid growing recognition that our green spaces can be part of the climate solution.
“We know that the plants and trees in parks help to mitigate the harmful carbon emissions
Stopping Dollar Spot in its tracks
With disease pressure on the rise and traditional turf strategies being tested by unpredictable weather patterns, Southerndown Golf Club has found a reliable solution in Maxtima fungicide - introduced and supported by Agrovista Amenity.
Under the guidance of Agrovista Amenity’s Ray Hunt, Course Manager Andrew Mannion has successfully brought a persistent Dollar Spot issue under control, safeguarding turf health and playability at one of Wales’s most renowned golf courses.
Developed by BASF and supplied exclusively through Agrovista Amenity, Maxtima is a next-generation DMI fungicide that offers outstanding control of Dollar Spot and other key turfgrass diseases. What sets Maxtima apart is its targeted performance and ability to
integrate seamlessly into a regular maintenance programme.
“We were impressed straight away,” says Andrew. “You can actually see it stop disease development within 24 hours. Last year, because it was during the growing season, we even saw full recovery on affected areas. Lesions healed over and with some overseeding, it disappeared completely.”
Since that initial success, Andrew and the team have incorporated Maxtima into their preventative strategy.
“We’re definitely more in control now,” he says. “Maxtima is a great product and I’d absolutely recommend it to other course managers. If you catch Dollar Spot early, it’ll stop it in its tracks.”

that are driving climate change. They act as cooling havens as we face hotter, drier summers and play an important part in climate change adaptation and mitigation, including helping to reduce incidences of flooding.”
The charity believes the standards expected in the Green Flag Award should be a minimum for every park and aims for a significant increase in the number of sites achieving Green Flag Award status by 2030, so that people, wherever they live, can access and enjoy safe, high-quality green space.

Industry groups offer guidance as hosepipe bans announced
Water companies are introducing hosepipe bans on domestic uses, with specific exemptions for commercial and other nondomestic uses.
The regulations provide a degree of flexibility and are somewhat open to interpretation, so it is always worth contacting the relevant water company if you are unsure on the legality of a specific use.
Both South East Water and Thames Water have published useful FAQ pages on their websites, addressing the most common scenarios for landscapers and clients.
For instance, the South East Water FAQ says landscapers can use a hosepipe to water new turf in domestic settings but only:
• Where this cannot be reasonably be undertaken with a watering can, and
• The turf was laid before the start of the ban, and
• Within four weeks of the turf being laid, and
• Outside of peak hours which are 9am to 10am and 5pm to 9pm
BALI is continuing to monitor developments and communicate any further droughts and hosepipe bans to members and, in turn, their clients.
Meanwhile, our policy team is renewing efforts to secure greater flexibility for landscaping under hosepipe bans as well as a more consistent approach across water companies.
BALI has previously discussed the benefits of sustainable garden design, rainwater harvesting systems, and water solutions more broadly.
With prolonged dry weather now affecting many parts of the UK, grounds staff face the challenging task of maintaining playable, safe and healthy sports surfaces with limited access to water.
The GMA has provided guidance, such as increase
mowing height - raising the cut helps reduce stress on the grass and encourages deeper roots –and mow in cooler conditions, such as early morning or late evening, to reduce evaporation and plant shock.
It says to focus watering efforts only on high-wear or highpriority areas, like goalmouths or central wickets, avoid watering during peak sunlight hoursevaporation rates are highest then and use germination sheets or covers after watering to retain surface moisture and reduce the need for repeat applications. Where possible, apply wetting agents in advance of expected rainfall to improve water absorption and retention.
Avoid fertilisers and herbicides, which can scorch or damage grass in dry conditions, is advised and the GMA says postpone grooming, scarifying, and brushing—these activities, while helpful in normal conditions, may cause undue stress when moisture is scarce.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) says it has seen a threefold increase in drought-related enquiries from its members this year, with many reporting damage to evergreens.
Caroline Mazzey, RHS horticultural advisor, said: “Evergreens need water all year. This year’s dry conditions have delayed new growth whilst loss of the older leaves has gone ahead as usual, resulting in sparse foliage. Evergreens in pots are seeing this exaggerated with doorstep favourites such as olive and bay trees among those feeling the effects most.”
In its own gardens, the RHS is trialling plants that can navigate cold and wet winters and measuring the water uptake of 20 popular plants in all conditions to understand the amount of water needed for them to survive and thrive. This growing season’s low rainfall, sunny days and high temperatures have led to an increased water demand of 25% on average.
Kubota parts redefined with Terrako
Kubota (UK) Ltd has introduced a digital marketplace for customers to streamline ordering of genuine parts using mobile or desktop devices.
It is called Terrako, and enables Kubota parts to be ordered through an online portal that also provides instant access to dealer stock levels.
“As an all-new digital marketplace, the development of Terrako has made it very easy and convenient for customers to order genuine parts for their Kubota equipment, even if they’re unsure of who their
At the same time, soil moisture is down from an average range of 15-20% to just 5%.
Janet Manning, RHS Water Reduction Officer, said: “At the RHS we’re looking to ‘spongify’ our gardens, holding onto more rain when it arrives so that the plants and soil release it more slowly, helping both flood and drought situations.
“This needs planning and can’t be done in the few short weeks during a drought, but we can make sure we are using what we have as carefully as possible, not watering lawns where damage would not be irreparable, grouping pots and utilising shade.”

Amenity sprayer operator awards open for entries
The search is on to recognise the UK’s most professional sprayer operators in the sports turf, amenity and landscape management industries.
The Amenity Sprayer Operator of the Year (ASOOTY) Awards highlight best practice and experience in the challenging role of ensuring accurate application on all amenity surfaces.
The Amenity Forum competition, supported by ICL and Syngenta, seeks to share guidance and advice that will raise the standards of spray application across the amenity industry.
The Awards’ finalists will be announced at the Amenity Forum Conference in October, with the overall winner presented at the prestigious BIGGA Awards ceremony at BTME in January 2026.
Amenity businesses and sports turf managers are urged to actively encourage their sprayer operators to enter the awards this year.
All ASOOTY applicants will also be entered into a competition to win one of five Syngenta Sprayer Calibration & Application Kits.
Along with assessing operators’ skills of spray application and use of products, the ASOOTY judging panel also now incorporate the importance of an integrated turf management (ITM) approach to any issues involving turf and landscape maintenance.
Amenity Forum Chairman, Ian Graham, announced: “This competition seeks to highlight the remarkable talent that exists within our sector, and I encourage as many spray operators as possible to engage with the process.
“Our industry has many highly skilled spray operators working within it, using a diverse range of products accurately applied through a huge range of complex application equipment. Past winners have ably demonstrated the professional approach to meeting these challenges.”
Syngenta Technical Manager, Sean Loakes, highlighted: “The skills of sprayer operators to make efficient, effective and above all safe applications is essential for the future sustainability of the amenity and turf care industry.
“The ASOOTY awards are a welcome way to recognise and reward the leading individuals and to learn from their experience,” he says.
Last year’s winner, Peter Pattenden, professional spray technician at Carden Park Golf Resort in, Cheshire encourages
all sprayer operators to get involved and enter the ASOOTY Awards. Even at a relatively young age, his understanding of the spraying process and exemplary commitment to achieving consistent accuracy was evident.
ICL Landscape & Industrial Business Manager, Lewis Blois, added: “We are delighted to support such an important cross-sector industry initiative, with a continued commitment to raise standards and improve results.

Aspen delivers a decade of clean power
From the very first demonstration, Graham Kenward of South East Forestry and Tree Services was sold on the health and safety benefits of Aspen Fuel.
More than a decade on, the firm still swears by Aspen Alkylate fuel for their suite of two-stroke equipment, delivering clean and convenient power to projects in confined spaces.
Founded by Graham in 1997, South East Forestry and Tree Services undertake the full breadth of tree surgery services for domestic and commercial
customers across Surrey and Sussex. Powering much of that operation for the last 10 years has been Aspen Fuel. Graham takes up the story, “I learned about the product through a friend and arranged to have a demonstration of it. All I could say at the time was WOW!”
“It’s certainly not right, but as an arborist you almost just get used to getting home at the end of the day with bloodshot eyes and the smell of petrol over your clothes – particularly if you’ve been working in confined spaces. As soon as we started to use Aspen in our 2-stroke equipment, that
all stopped immediately.” He continues, “Not only that but the shelf life of it is incredible. Depending on workload we might have equipment that’ll sit in the shed for two or three years untouched. If it’s got Aspen in the tank, it’ll start up at the first time of asking.”
99% cleaner than ordinary pump petrol in regards to levels of hazardous hydrocarbons, Aspen Fuel is virtually free from Ethanol, Aromatics and Benzene, bringing enhanced performance and a longer service life for all types of modern 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines.
Together with extending engine life and reliability, the significantly fewer harmful and toxic hydrocarbons reduce the impact your equipment has on your health and the environment.
“You can’t put a price on your health and, when I factor in the further efficiencies and convenience brought about by having the Aspen delivered in 200L drums to site, we more than offset the additional cost of using Aspen in our chainsaws and other petrol-powered hand tools.”

Arborist 130 makes light work of woodland maintenance
At Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club, woodland maintenance is one of the biggest pulls on Tony Moore and his team during the autumn and winter months.
That all changed however with the delivery of their GreenMech Arborist 130 woodchipper in November 2024, which has not only slashed the time it takes to thin-out and raise lower branches, it’s also significantly reduced the amount of traffic moving around the course.
Affectionately named the ‘Hidden Jewel of Suffolk’, the course is nestled in the picturesque Waveney Valley and is lined with a mixture of mature oak, birch and pine trees which need attention in the winter months to improve airflow and ensure good lines of sight.
Delivered in November, the Arborist 130 was put straight to work. He said: “With the chipper, we now have less hands on the job and are having to make significantly fewer trips with the trailer which reduces our fuel consumption and is better for the course when the ground conditions are softer.”
The Arborist 130 is an ideal fit for golf courses, landscapers and contractors looking for a low-maintenance, high-output 6” machine. Equipped with a number of GreenMech’s unique features including a wide infeed chute, no-stress in-feed system and disc-blade chipping technology, the chipper is a robust, capable addition to any machinery fleet.

For Adam Rowlands, owner of Turf Doctor Specialists Ltd, maintaining high-quality cricket surfaces is about using the right tools for the job - and when it comes to seed, MM50 from MM Seed is his go-to solution.
Based in West London, Turf Doctor Specialists Ltd has been operating for over a decade as a limited company, but Adam brings with him more than 30 years of hands-on experience in the industry. As specialists in the maintenance and renovation of natural turf, the company works across a wide range of sports surfaces, from football and rugby pitches to bowls and tennis courts - but cricket remains one of their key focus areas.
Adam began using MM50 four years ago after switching from another seed that wasn’t quite
delivering the results he needed. It was through working with Agrovista Amenity that MM50 was recommended, and since then, he’s never looked back.
MM50 is now used by Turf Doctor Specialists Ltd across six cricket squares and two bowling greens during the renovation window from early September to mid-October. Adam also applies it to six grass tennis courts, where durability and rapid recovery are equally important.
What sets MM50 apart, in Adam’s view, is its performance under pressure. Cricket squares face intense wear and tear during the season, and MM50’s dense, fine-leaved ryegrass blend stands up to the challenge.

GftK vdw 850plus for durable wet weather paving jointing
In November 2015 the Heavitree Brewery wanted an extensive new paved beer garden as part of the brewery’s refurbishment and redevelopment of the George & Dragon Pub in Dartmouth to a destination venue.
The GS Architects design for this area of was created using 25mm calibrated, random-sized, black limestone paving, with a central millboard walkway and 100mm granite sett paving for the main entrance and drop kerb to the road.
Following complex structural issues, the project was somewhat delayed, but the brewery and their tenants still wanted to aim for the original VIP opening in November, ahead of the busy Christmas period.
As a result, the building contractor needed to finish pointing and complete the paving, ready to open within just two days, or the date would have to be postponed.
Their research led them to NCC Streetscape, and the decision to use GftK vdw 850plus was primarily made for two important reasons.
Firstly, the contractor needed to install the jointing and complete the paving, in just two days, despite the cold, wet November weather –GftK vdw 850plus was the only solution able to meet this onerous requirement, as it can be applied quickly and easily in wet weather.
Secondly, the brewery and their tenants needed a paving jointing material that was tough and fully able to resist exposure to frequent pedestrian traffic, including high heels, plus frequent accidental spillages of food and drinks, as well as being fully resistant to de-icing salts in winter and the necessary frequent cleaning to maintain hygiene for alfresco dining by high pressure jetwashing.
Casting light on a bright future for Haddonstone
The use of GftK vdw 850plus also allowed all of the paving jointing works to be prepared, applied, cleaned off, and completed, in less than three to four hours in the rain.
Additionally, the main street entrance and drop-kerb to the pub is paved in 100 mm granite setts with 25 mm wide joints. Not ideal, but the GftK vdw 850 in these wide joints still performed brilliantly.
Ater being fully exposed for 10 years to high pedestrian and regular vehicle traffic for access, the paving jointing is good to continue for many more years –a true sustainable choice.

Next year will mark Haddonstone’s 55th year in the architectural and garden cast stonework business; and every step of the way has seen the company thrive in a world of shifting design trends, technological advancements, evolving standards and regulations, and economic highs and lows.
Housebuilding in the 21st century is as much about creating quality places in which people want to live, as it is about the construction itself.
“We are all encouraged to value sustainability, quality and ‘kerb appeal’, as much as functionality and space; and so, it’s no surprise that we are seeing a resurgence of interest in beautiful, traditional and classical architecture,” said David Barrow, Managing Director of Haddonstone.
“This is where Haddonstone has always excelled, in manufacturing authentic and high-quality cast stonework for both new build properties, and in restoration and replication projects.”
This has been a busy year so far for Haddonstone - which is reassuring after a challenging few years for the sector; and while worldwide economic uncertainty continues apace.
“We have seen a noticeable increase in private clients instructing their architects, builders and contractors to include traditional stone design elements, such as porticos, window and wall dressings into their plans,” he added.
“Housebuilders and their clients are increasingly appreciating how high-quality cast stone detailing can elevate a home’s character and value; both here in the UK
and in the USA, where our two businesses are flourishing.
“At the heart of our ethos are the same traditional values that have remained steadfast throughout the past 55 years. We place integrity, quality and innovation front and centre, and this is why our clients return to us time and time again.
“Our standard and bespoke products are handmade to order in our own manufactories in Northamptonshire and Colorado, USA, by a team of craftsmen who are experts in their field and can deliver the quality of cast stonework that our clients demand.
“Investment in our manufacturing facilities means that, not only do we meet client demand comfortably, we also make sure we are ahead of advancements and standards.
“An example is a £300k site expansion a few years ago which doubled the size of the TecStone (wet mix) shop floor (TecStone now accounts for 60% of all the stone produced) giving Haddonstone 50% more manufacturing space from before.
“As part of the same project, the timber mould shop space was expanded to accommodate a CNC spindle machine which can control the creation of precise and complex wooden shaped inserts for our moulds.
“Looking forward to next year, we all hope for a stable economic picture. As a business, we will remain steadfast in our commitment to produce the high-quality cast stonework that Haddonstone has become synonymous with, whilst continuing to invest in both our team and our manufacturing infrastructure.”

Why landscapers should pay attention to Meadowscape Pro
In a landscaping world where speed, sustainability, and biodiversity are no longer just nice-to-haves but must-haves, Meadowscape Pro™ deserves a place in every contractor’s toolkit.
For years, landscapers have had two main options for wildflower projects: scatter seed and wait years for results, or lay Wildflower Turf for instant but more expensive impact. Meadowscape Pro sits smartly in the middle—a premixed, peat-free growing medium embedded with wildflower seed, applied directly to site.
What makes it standout? Speed and simplicity. Germination happens fast, species establish within months (not years), and minimal groundwork is required—
no rotovating, no soil stripping. For time-constrained projects or large areas where budget and logistics rule, this is a real advantage.
True, it won’t give you that instant green “wow” factor that Wildflower Turf offers. But if your brief allows a little patience, Meadowscape Pro delivers rich, diverse flowering meadows at a fraction of the cost— and with much less hassle than traditional seeding.
For landscapers working across housing developments, public space enhancements, or biodiversity net gain projects, it’s a practical, professional-grade solution that gets the job done. Faster. Smarter. Greener.

New CPD on modern fencing systems
Birkdale has recently launched a CPD to help architects and landscape architects make an informed decision when selecting a fencing post system for their project.
Accredited by the CPD Certification Service, the session provides the opportunity to learn about modern fencing systems and how steel posts can improve the visual aesthetic of a project whilst providing greater durability.
Although steel is by no means a new material, its use in fencing is still relatively uncommon. However, when compared to traditional timber and concrete posts, steel systems such as Birkdale’s DuraPost, offer a
sleek and modern finish as well as increased durability and longevity.
The CPD session begins by covering timber and concrete and the associated pros and cons of both, before highlighting the credentials of steel fence posts, and why they overcome the common performance issues linked to traditional material choices.
Information is provided on the installation process, which is followed by case study examples to provide inspiration and showcase some real-world applications of steel fence posts.

New report calls for a national play strategy
A landmark report from the Raising the Nation Play Commission was launched on the #InternationalDayOfPlay.
The Association of Play Industries is a proud sponsor of the Commission, and API Chair, Dr Amanda Gummer, has served as one of the Commissioners throughout this year-long, independent inquiry.
Launched at the House of Lords, the report highlights how childhood has changed dramatically over the past 30 years. With fewer public playgrounds, growing safety fears and rising screen time, children’s opportunities to play outdoors have declined by 50% in a generation.
Attending the launch, Dr Amanda Gummer said: “It was encouraging to see the level of support for the Commission and the Report. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a Commissioner over the last 12 months. The momentum is growing and it is an exciting time for play.”
The Play Commission’s wideranging recommendations include:
• A National Play Strategy for England, led by a dedicated Minister for Play A statutory Play Sufficiency Duty for local authorities
• Investment in public playgrounds and safe spaces to play
• The removal of ‘No Ball Games’ signs
• Raising the digital age of consent to 16 A ban on mobile phones during the school day
The report draws on evidence and contributions from over 150 organisations and individuals and is backed by over 1,200 signatories, including GPs, educators, local government leaders, charities and built environment experts.
We believe this report is a powerful call to action and a vital step in our mission to ensure that every child has access to free, local, highquality play areas.

Jacobsen contour rotary mower heads to Balfron
Balfron Golfing Society in Stirlingshire, radiates a welcoming sense of community while enjoying enviable views of Loch Lomond.
The club has a fascinating modern-day history and maintains both a healthy membership and regular visitor numbers.
Head greenkeeper Kevin Wilkie has been with the club since 2006. Aided by a team of three, together they care for the course, which is part heathland, part parkland.
At the start of the season, they took delivery of a Jacobsen AR722T seven-deck rotary
mower from local dealer, Fairways GM at Renfrew, delivered by Area Sales Manager, Mike Lindsay.
“We’re saving lots of time which is the reason we purchased,” said Kevin Wilkie. “Where we might have previously spent three hours on the semi rough, we’re down to two and it also presents the grass well, giving scope to stripe.
“It means we’ve freed up time to enhance the course elsewhere, spending a little extra effort on the greens or on special projects if required.”

Hydro 100 proves the perfect fit
With12 acres of immaculately kept gardens, Grade I listed grounds, and renowned memorial spaces, Golders Green Crematorium in North London is one of the most historic and revered sites of its kind in the world.
Keeping the grounds to a consistently high standard falls to a small but dedicated team— and their latest secret is the Etesia Hydro 100 ride-on mower.
For Head Gardener Ian Harman, investing in the right machinery was a top priority from the start.
“We're a small team of just four, and we’re constantly busy with everything from maintaining rose beds to managing formal lawns and the large scatter lawn,” said Ian. “Machinery plays a key role in helping us work efficiently, especially with the tight spaces and tree cover we deal with here.
“We’ve put about 60 hours on the Hydro 100 and had absolutely no clogging. It leaves a clean cut, picks up leaves and grass efficiently— even in wet conditions—and saves us lots of time. It also mulches the leaves as it goes, which helps with our composting.”
For a site like Golders Green, where space is at a premium and storage is limited, the compact design of the Hydro 100 has also been a huge bonus.
“We couldn’t store a large tractor-style machine, and we don’t need one,” Ian added. “This mower is the perfect size. You get the benefits of a large collection box with the manoeuvrability needed for tighter areas. It’s like having a garden vacuum—clean, simple, and effective.”
Ease of maintenance and usability were also deciding factors. “It’s a very straightforward machine,” Ian said. “Fuel effi cient, easy to service, and intuitive to operate. You’ve got a hydrostatic drive, simple controls, and changing the height of cut is quick—ideal if you hit a patch that’s slightly overgrown.”
The Hydro 100 is powered by an 18HP Kawasaki engine and features a 500-litre grass collector with hydraulic tipping, which can be emptied from the seat.
With a modern hydrostatic transmission and differential lock, it’s designed for durability, comfort, and productivity—especially in demanding, high-collection environments.

AMAZONE BladeCut for professional green space management
AMAZONE is expanding its professional lawn maintenance range with the BladeCut 1800 rotary mower.
The new mowing deck can be easily retrofitted to the Profihopper 1500 self-propelled mower/collector as an option. High outputs can be achieved thanks to its robust design and a cutting width of 1.80m.
Numerous technical advantages make the BladeCut mowing deck a good choice when it comes to precision and for intensive continuous operation.
The standard flail mower unit on the Profihopper can be quickly and easily replaced by the new rotary mower via the QuickLink coupling system. Operators can therefore react fl exibly to different requirements.
The modern mowing deck geometry of the BladeCut 1800 provides a high blade overlap. This ensures both a clean grass cut, even when cornering, and an
even, full-width distribution of the cuttings.
The BladeCut has direct rear discharge meaning that the collection function of the Profihopper is deactivated. A mulching kit with specially shaped mulching blades is available as an option.
A permeable grass guide effectively prevents blockages. The mowing deck operates quietly and is therefore ideal for use in noise-sensitive environments.
The strong construction along with high-quality components makes the rotary mower a robust and durable solution for intensive use. The use of quality blades and large blade bearings increases the service life of the equipment.
Standard protective functions, such as a slip clutch prevent damage to the blade in the event of contact with foreign objects, and the special blade
offset protects the blade bearings from wear.
A sophisticated carrying system using two large guide wheels at the front and the front wheels of the mowing unit ensure very good contour following.
The cutting height can be infi nitely adjusted between 20 mm and 110 mm, making it possible to adapt to different requirements.
The flexible suspension and large guide wheels ensure a consistent cutting height even under diffi cult conditions. Anti-scalp rollers protect the grass surface from damage on uneven ground. This ensures a clean, professional cutting profile.

The pinnacle of zero-turn mowers
In a seasonal business such as lawn care, a service provider must be able to rely on its machinery.
Breakdowns and poor performance cost money, time and nerves. Professional service providers around the world rely on the dependability of the Ariens Summit Pro series.
Operating times of 500 to 1,000 hours per season are not uncommon. Ariens is now bringing the proven fleet star to Europe.
The new Ariens Summit Pro series was developed precisely to meet these requirements for tough continuous use in a professional environment. Maximum durability, a perfect cut and high ride comfort culminate in the new zero-turn mowers.
The new series comprises the Ariens Summit Pro 300 (26 hp) in three cutting widths from 122 cm to 152 centimetres and the Ariens Summit Pro 500 (27
hp) in two cutting widths (152 centimetres or 183 centimetres).
With a total of five variants, there is a suitable model for every service provider. Even the compact model, the Summit Pro 348, achieves an area output of up to 17,800m² per hour at a speed of 14.5 km/h.
The largest model, the Ariens Summit Pro 572 with a cutting width of 183 centimetres, is made for extreme area performance and the largest areas. With a speed of 16 km/h, it achieves a maximum area output of 29,500m² per hour.
The new Ariens Envy Pro mowing deck ensures optimum grass distribution. It is made from 4.6 mm thick sheet steel, it is extremely robust and can withstand years of intensive use. Its great depth makes it perfect for installing the optional mulching kit. The fully welded, one-piece tubular frame is also extremely solid. The large square tubes can withstand shocks and torsion for years.
The new large zero-turn mowers from Ariens are fitted with premium Kawaski engines, which are made for the demanding conditions of everyday service work. The Kawaski FX engines with 852cm³ displacement, V-twin, double air filter, highperformance oil cooler, electronic ignition and internally ventilated twin carburettor deliver full power at all times.
Large drive wheels are essential for riding comfort and enable high riding speeds. With a diameter of 26 inches (Summit Pro 500) or 24 inches (Summit Pro 300), they can be ridden with low air pressure. This ensures a high level of suspension comfort. Unevenness is levelled out and it is easier to ride over kerbs.
The 15-inch, 360-degree swivelling front wheels are semi-pneumatic. This means that they are completely filled with a rubber foam. This prevents flat tyres and pressure loss.

Minimise emissions and maximise uptime with Kubota
The ZE Electric Zero-Turn range from Kubota has proven its credentials with operators looking to reduce their environmental footprint, all without detriment to productivity or cut performance.
Verifying that sustainability does not have to result in a compromise in turfcare standards, the fullyelectric ZE-421 and ZE-481 mowers from Kubota’s Zero Turn collection are exceeding expectations too on operator comfort – reducing the noise, odours and vibrations associated with ICE-powered equipment.
With no internal combustion engine, the ZE produces no CO2 or particulates during operation, supporting the UK air quality and net-zero commitments of local authorities and other green space managers. Instead, the ZE range is powered by a durable 48V, 10kWh lithium-ion battery
which allows the mower to cover up to 15,000m2 on a single charge. Depending on site conditions, the operator can choose between Eco, Standard or Boost mode deck settings to further optimise battery life whilst choosing between two transport speeds, when exhausted, the battery module can be removed and exchanged in minutes.
The advanced K-Sense autoadjustment system also actively monitors deck load in real time to automatically balance mowing and travel speed to preserve cut quality on varying grass types and densities.
The ZE-421 and ZE-481 models come with a 42” or 48” side-discharge deck, ideal for professional contractors and landscaping applications, with an optional mulching kit available. Smooth and quiet in operation, additional comfort is
provided by the adjustable seat and ergonomic deck controls designed to reduce fatigue and improve operator wellbeing.
In addition, the ongoing maintenance of the ZE range is significantly simplified, making it ideal for busy grounds teams. With no engine oil, spark plugs, fuel filters or exhaust systems to service, the routine upkeep is reduced to essential checks such as blade sharpening, tyre inspection and periodic battery monitoring. The electric drivetrain also results in fewer moving parts and less wear and tear, lowering the risk of breakdowns and maximising uptime.
The ZE range forms part of Kubota’s ongoing declaration to support a carbon neutral environment by 2050.

Müthing is the professional’s choice
Müthing flail mowers supplied by Simon Richard Ltd have been an important part of the armoury for Ray Britland Contracting for many years, mainly front mounted on the business’s fleet of Reform Metrac specialist tractors. The company undertakes a wide range of demanding maintenance work, often on steep terrain or remote locations, so performance and reliability are key.
Operations Manager John Wilkinson comments: “We’ve tried
a number of other brands but found that they were either not robust enough or too heavy for the tractors.
The Müthing flail is a really good all-round machine for our varied workload. The geometry is ideal and it’s nicely balanced with good float over uneven terrain.”
John comments that the 2m MU-H 200 can be offset using the linkage arms on the Reform tractor while 2.2m models bring even more output. A patented removable shark fi n shredding
bar mulches vegetation finely. As the mowers are front mounted on the Reform Metrac, a clever dust protection extension diverts dust and debris under the tractor.
“We’ve also seen a number of improvements over the years, with extra clearance for the roller which avoids blocking and increases efficiency plus stronger headstocks,” he adds.

Mow steep slopes faster
Remote-controlled mowers enable efficient and safe mowing of hardto-reach and steep areas.
At demopark 2025, the tall grass specialist AS-Motor presented a remote-controlled rotary mower that is made for tall grass and steep slopes. With the AS 990 Tahr RC, you can mow steep slopes fasterwithout turning.
The new AS 990 Tahr RC knows no "forwards" or "backwards" when mowing. Time-consuming turning after each pass is not necessary. Its sickle-shaped mower deck, which is open on both sides, enables a clean cut in both directions of travel.
The clippings are also always deposited in the same pattern. This results in a consistently uniform and clean cutting pattern, even on lawn-like surfaces. The cross blade system, which is also installed in the popular AS 940 Sherpa ride-on mower, impresses with its high cutting power. Grass and undergrowth up to 1.5 metres high are easily cut by two pendulum blades at high speed and shredded by the cutter bar above. The large surface area of the grass clippings facilitates their rapid decomposition.

STIHL’s part in maintaining the world’s largest yew hedge
The forestry team at Bathurst Estate and Cirencester Park have credited STIHL’s batterypowered tools and cleaning solutions in helping them to maintain the world’s tallest yew hedge, which is believed to have been planted on the estate back in 1720.
The hedge, which is a species of Yew (Taxus Baccata), is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for its towering height, reaching 14m.
