What is inclusion?

Inclusion is a philosophy that urges schools, neighborhoods and communities to welcome and value everyone, regardless of differences. Central to the philosophy of inclusion are the beliefs that everyone belongs, diversity is valued and we can all learn from each other.

Simply put, inclusion means removing barriers. It allows children with developmental disabilities to participate in all activities on an equal basis with others and to be valued members of society.

Five inclusive mindsets that shape behaviors are: self-awareness, curiosity, courage, vulnerability and empathy. These mindsets are critical for one ' s ability to create an environment where all feel respected, valued, and able to contribute their best.
