ACTU Secretary acknowledges proud history

ACTU Secretary Sally McManus enjoyed her time on Waiben honouring our proud union history and marching with local members last Friday.

The 1936 Maritime strike right up to today’s cost of living crisis and the need for pay rises in the Torres Strait were all on her agenda, as was union support for a ‘yes’ vote in this year’s referendum.

Torres News was told Sally had a “fantastic time” meeting and matching with locals, and she was “impressed to see people from all the islands in the Torres Strait come to celebrate the day.”

She passed on her thanks to the people of Waiben and the Torres Strait for their warm welcome. Pics supplied.
