Sixth Grade marks the first year in the Middle School and is therefore focused on developing sound habits of thought and expression, effective study skills, as well as successful management of time, materials, and responsibilities. As students engage with several teachers each day and navigate the entirety of the HDS campus, personal accountability, independence, and self-advocacy are encouraged and cultivated. Sixth Grade also comes with more leadership experiences, a wide variety of instruments in the MS music room, new performance opportunities with a Fall Play and Spring Musical, interscholastic sports, and additional electives.

At Harford Day, our enriched curriculum, expert faculty, and specialized learning spaces provide students with unparalleled opportunities for growth. Through hands-on units of study throughout Middle School, students remain engaged and challenged with project-based learning, public speaking, collaborative problem-solving, multiple field experiences, and meaningful leadership opportunities.

These experiences foster independence, critical thinking, and effective communication while building the strong academic foundation and confidence students need to excel in high school and beyond.
