'Occupy' protesters clash with police in New York New York: Hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protesters thronged the city on Thursday, a show of strength in the movement's original home that was echoed nationwide as part of a "mass day of action." Scores were arrested in New York, and at least seven policemen were reported injured, as protesters moved toward Foley Square in Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge. By early Thursday evening, many had crossed the bridge -- the same place where more than 700 had been arrested last month .

Scuffles and arrests on Thursday marked two months of the movement. This time, they marched in the pedestrian walkway, not blocking the roadway.

Mullen confirms Zardari feared military coup Washington: Mike Mullen, former chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, has confirmed the existence of a secret memo said to have been sent by Pakistan President Asif Zardari about a feared military takeover. Pakistani businessman Mansoor Ijaz alleged in a column in the Financial Times last month that a senior Pakistani diplomat asked for assistance in getting a message from Zardari to Mullen. Ijaz said Zardari feared a military coup following the US commando raid that killed Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in May and brought unprecedented public scrutiny on Pakistani leaders.
