Ráidu – a cosy reindeer sledding winter experience

Right up until the 60s, Ráidu was a common sight in Máze and on the tundra, because today’s roads were first built then and new machines such as the snowmobile did not exist. Today, we still tame reindeers in the traditional way, both to be able to take care of traditional knowledge and to keep the heritage alive, and because we use our tame reindeer during the reindeer migration.

These are magical moments that are worth experiencing. By the way, did you know that Máze was the inspiration for the Disney movie Frozen 2?

After we return to the camp, we move into the heated lavvo, sit around the fire and listen to stories about old traditions and customs such as the proposal ride, while we enjoy a good cup of coffee from the fire and strengthen ourselves with a small Sami snack.

We also recommend combining this activity with a Sami meal consisting of the Sami festival meal biđos with home-baked bread. The dessert consists of “Mountian Gold”, also called cloudberry, with whipped cream, coffee and cake.

Imagine a small village covered in snow and you’re cuddled up on big reindeer hides on a sleigh pulled by reindeers.
