One More Thing (Stories and Other Stories) by B.J. Novak Book Review

Written by Yael Chambers and edited by Danielle Randall

Overview: I genuinely have no idea how to describe One More Thing on paper. When I first downloaded the book onto my Kindle, I thought it was a memoir, but I guess that’s what I get for not reading the back cover. I’m a huge fan of B.J. Novak’s writing and acting on the American version of The Office, so I figured that I might as well give his book a shot.

My Opinion: To put it simply, One More Thing is a book of short stories. Most of them are only a few pages, but some are a bit longer. There’s no particular theme that runs through all of them, but they somehow fit together perfectly. Novak puts himself in the shoes of people in all different situations, eras, and walks of life. Some of the stories are outright comedic and others are grave. Some of the stories deal with relationships and self-worth while still incorporating Novak’s characteristically dry humor. The topics range from “The Tortoise and the Hare” to sex robots to Kate Moss. Some have poignant morals and others are just entertaining or outright strange. Because of this, it’s difficult to give a real review of the short story collection. I personally enjoyed most of them, and the collection is well suited for those that like poetry or short stories. One of my favorite things about One More Thing, is that the stories are short and to the point. I’m always looking for something that I can read at a bus stop, or when I only have a few minutes while drinking my coffee. If you’re the type of person that doesn’t have time to read every day, a book that you can pick up sporadically without forgetting important details, One More Thing is a must-have! https://www.amazon.com/OneMore-Thing-Stories-Other-ebook/

If you have even a mild interest in B.J. Novak or short stories, I definitely recommend picking up a copy of One More Thing. Even if you’re not a fan of every story, in ten minutes you’ll be on to the next one!
