We met up with Linda Heys, lead designer and co-owner of Bruce Heys Builders at their Spring Parade of Homes house and we asked her about her design inspiration for their GORGEOUS custom build. She started off by telling us about how important layering is with design. Starting at the exterior, they layered the materials and finishes using a variety of Hardie board and stacked brick. They also layered their landscape that they had designed by Rooks Landscaping in Ada, MI by using a variety of different plantings and hardscape products.
The purpose of the room divider is to allow you to have the elements of the space revealed to you slowly as you enter, "It's what I like to call, 'layering your wows'!", said Linda. It also assures that
you don't walk directly into the back of the sofa as you enter the space. In addition to the room divider, Forged by Design crafted the custom maple and steel floating staircase, the statement circular table in the dining room and the one-ofa-kind ping pong table in the game area. Linda also achieved layering with the lighting in this home. There are a variety of can lights, modern

As soon as you enter through the 8 foot Black Walnut custom door by RJ Raven, you are greeted by a one of a kind art installation steel room divider that Linda designed with Forged by Design.
fixtures, under cabinet lights and task lights that are all dimmable. TruMedia installed a Lutron RadioRa2 Lighting Control system that allows for simple control of all of the lights via either a local Lutron keypad, a variety of voice control systems, with preset timers or remotely with a smartphone or tablet. Linda also layered with textures as she chose to surround her modern fireplace from Builders Fireplace with a creamy colored concrete surround and hearth by HardTopix. These textures compliment the custom stained maple engineered flooring with a special micro bezeled edge that are installed throughout the main level that Linda just had to have. She said they are very forgiving for pet owners and have a classic look that will last.
Samsung FrameTVs were featured throughout the house giving the homeowner more ways to personalize their space and enhance their aesthetic, all while enjoying the stunning picture quality of 4K QLED. There was a 65" FrameTV installed in the Great Room, a 55" FrameTV in the Sitting Room (shown here) and a 32" FrameTV in the Master Bathroom. These televisions are designed to style your space with a look and feel that's uniquely you. The FrameTV hangs flush to the wall like art and allows you to turn your home into a different distinguished art collection whenever inspiration strikes. Access to over 1,400 works of art from worldclass galleries gives you countless ways to express the mood and the moment. You can even personalize it with artwork or family photos that you can upload yourself.

THE LAST 18 MONTHS
To say that the last 18 months have been a learning experience would be an understatement. We've learned to use our home in a variety of new ways. Our homes have become our classrooms, our offices and for many of us our place of safety against the unknown out there. So what have we learned about TECHNOLOGY as we start to emerge from this pandemic? 1. We consumed FAR more data in our home than we ever have before. According to one study by Visual Capitalists our data consumption in April of 2020 had a 36% increase over the same time in 2019. 2. We discovered that the wireless router/modem provided by your local Internet Service Provider (ISP) most likely needed a wireless network (wifi) upgrade as this was one of the most common calls we received at TruMedia. 3. We were investing more in home upgrades than we had previously. Since we were unable to travel, entertaining spaces became more important. We saw a large increase in the request for outdoor landscape audio options as well as an increase in the number of media and home theater room requests. Forged by Design was a featured partner in this custom home by Bruce Heys Builders. They provided the custom steel divider in the foyer entrance and the custom circular dining table on the main level. They also designed the floating open staircase that guides to you to the focal piece of the lower level entertaining space, the one-of-a-kind wood and steel ping pong table. The layered design was also carried over into the kitchen where Linda played with layering colors by using two different colored cabinets from the Kemp line at Carter Kitchen & Bath where her daughter Abby Heys is a cabinet designer. The two had fun planning out a kitchen that would be welcoming to the whole family for years to come. Linda makes layering sound easy, but the truth is, she's a very experienced designer that has spent years honing her craft and creating relationships with many outstanding manufacturers and tradespeople...we are just happy to be considered among them.

Education Spotlight Did you know that NorthPointe Christian offers their students a program called 'BIG Picture Learning'? In this program, the curriculum is tailor made, with an individual and interest-based approach that emphases hands-on learning and real world experience.

LAKEFRONT LIVING THAT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! HOW ONE FAMILY TOOK A TRAGEDY AND CREATED THE HOME OF THEIR DREAMS.... WELCOME TO BEECHTREE MANOR! Imagine spending a little over a year remodeling your family home, being only weeks away from 'move-in day' only to receive a call that your home has been lost due to a fire! This is what happened not too long ago to these lovely homeowners. Through the tears and ashes however, they were able to create the home of their dreams!
DEVELOPING THE PLAN
The homeowners planned to bring their designer, Missy from Studio M Interiors over, as well as their technology team, Ponch & Amanda from TruMedia, but then they needed to search for the perfect design! Enter Architect Brad from Brad Douglas Design. It was important for this Nonna & Papa to
create a space not only for them, but that would include the entire family for entertaining....even the grandkids who have their own 'clubhouse' for Nonna and the kids ONLY! CHOOSING A BUILDER
Choosing a builder for the project would be no easy task either. After many interviews, Jeff from Sherwood Custom Homes and his team were tasked with the project. Their pride in crafting every detail to the owners desire showed
through on each step in this project. TECHNOLOGY WAS A MUST
A house of this size and caliber of course needed technology, but it also needed to be easy to use. The statement tech for this home is the Lutron Homeworks system. This system allows them to control not only all of the light fixtures inside and out, it also controls the natural lighting with the use of custom motorized roller shades by Lutron. This entire system is set up with

This started with the traditional custom his and hers walk-in closets and vanities in the master bath but it didn't stop there, it also includes his and hers
offices that reflect each of the owners unique tastes. She also has a custom craft room that offsets his workshop. DREAMS COME TRUE
It took a lot of planning and partnerships, but together the teams involved were able to raise a phoenix from the ashes and give this couple the home of their dreams. Memories will continue to be made her for years!

The team at Stealth Acoustics have been making quality audio and video products in the US for over 37 years! They provide expert-grade invisible speakers, specialty environmental speakers that can withstand all of the elements that Michigan can throw at them and unique outdoor video solutions like the Transformer, a revolutionary hidden outdoor theater system designed to fold away into its weatherized, fiberglass enclosure and fit discretely on a yacht or home deck.
beams in the great room. The kitchen and the master bedroom had matching maple tongue and groove wood details as well. The kids rooms provided the opportunity to be even more playful. In the nursery a feature wall was crafted by the trim carpenters using trim pieces to form a one-of-a-kind angled design. The other children's rooms allowed the perfect moment to continue the playful designs using whimsical wallpaper styles including a gorgeous constellation ceiling in one of the children's rooms.
These ceiling details were so important to the home that we wanted to make sure that nothing detracted from them, so it was the perfect opportunity for TruMedia to install their invisible speakers from Stealth Acoustics. These speakers are installed during the construction process just before the drywall team comes in to do their mudding and taping, they skim coat right over the speakers making everything but the amazing sound disappear. They can be hidden behind wallpaper too. The team at Lown Homes really showcased what you can do when you focus on the fifth wall in your space and make it a focal point. We think it turned out amazing!
