The Warren City School District, in partnership with Chik-fil-A, is recognizing students across all five of our schools for their outstanding achievements and how they each have demonstrated the character traits outlined in the Warren Acronym: Work Ethic Accountability Responsibility Respect Effective Behavior No Excuses Along with being highlighted in our bi-annual STUDENTS OF THE MONTH publication, each outstanding student is presented with a certificate of achievement, and a yard sign is placed at the student's residence.

Grade: SENIOR Harding High School

Ronald was nominated by 12th-grade Principal Mr. Rasile "because of the WORK ETHIC Ronald has shown in satisfying his requirements for graduation in the first quarter of the school year."

Ronald is a member of the Madrigals performance chorale. His favorite subject is math and his favorite teacher is "History of Rock & Roll" instructor Mr. Ensley.

Following graduation, Ronald would like to go to college to pursue some discipline of engineering.

Jovana Pirivatric Jovana was nominated by Guidance Counselors Jodi Austin-Brown and Alexis Vogler for "her WORK ETHIC and for holding NO EXCUSES in the pursuit of her goals."

Grade: JUNIOR Harding High School

Jovana stays busy outside of school working as a host at Quaker Steak & Lube. Job responsibilities have not slowed her involvement in extra-curricular activities, including Student Council, National Honor Society, and Acapella choir.

Academically, Jovana is taking College Credit Plus coursework at WGH through Eastern Gateway Community College as well as Advanced Placement coursework.

Her favorite class this year is AP Literature with Mr. Melillo and she cites The Metamorphosis as her preferred reading thus far. The best thing about WGH is the close community of teachers and students, all the class offerings, and the extra-curricular opportunities, she said.

She is appreciative of her School Counselor Alexis Vogler for always being available and giving good advice on matters inside and outside of school.

WORK ETHIC NO EXCUSES 10

Nathan James Nathan was nominated by 10th- grade Principal Ms. Seimetz for "the outstanding grades he was able to maintain while participating in two fall sports – cross country and soccer. This is a demonstration of his RESPONSIBILITY and ACCOUNTABILITY

as he had perfect attendance throughout the first quarter of the year."

Grade: SOPHOMORE Harding High School

Nathan is happy to see everyone back in school following the disruptions of last school year. He is appreciative of the people at WGH, particularly the staff who work hard to see and help students achieve. He cites Spanish teacher Ms. Burns and broadcasting teacher Mr. Whitacre as examples of this as they are open, honest teachers who work to build relationships with students in addition to “just teaching stuff”.

Nathan is looking forward to continuing to complete athletically in high school, as well as growing his skills in the WSCN broadcasting program, in making short videos, being part of the daily show, and operating cameras during athletic live streams.

A couple of Nathan’s goals include earning an Academic Honors Diploma upon graduation and being able to run cross-country at the collegiate level.

Ka’Niya Cayson Hill Ka’Niya was nominated by her 9th- grade principal "for her WORK ETHIC in maintaining a high academic record for the first quarter, taking Honors and AP coursework while being in the marching band.

Ka’Niya’s perfect attendance is also a testament to the ACCOUNTABILITY she has to her educational responsibilities."

Grade: FRESHMAN Harding High School

The new people and that her teachers are helpful is what Ka’Niya likes most about WGH. When it comes to teachers, her 4th-grade teacher, Ms. Moyer at Lincoln PK-8, is her favorite.

Ka’Niya’s favorite subject is math and she is proud of the 4.14 first quarter GPA she earned while taking advanced coursework.

Making the WGH Majorette Line as a freshman is an accomplishment she attributes to her being involved in dance since the age of three.

After high school, Ka’Niya is considering a career in dance choreography.

at WGH, and is also received in his time excited at the prospects of high school almost being over. He is appreciative of Ms. Austin-Brown for her encouragement and support over the past few years. William is proud that he has put himself in position to graduate, and is looking forward to the next steps after high school.

Grade: JUNIOR HARDING HIGH SCHOOL E’Mari is taking advantage of the many opportunities for engagement available to her throughout WGH and the community. She competes on the track team, participates in Inspiring Minds, is a member of the NAACP Youth Chapter, National Honor Society, and is vicep president of the WGH Chapter of YSU’s Academic Achievers.

Her favorite teacher is Mr. Mach, because "he is an open individual who is well informed on many matters beyond the classroom."

After high school, E’mari plans to continue her education at YSU to major in biology with a concentration in medicine.

Nyjayah Jones

“Nyjayah exemplifies the WHOLE WARREN ACRONYM. She has risen to the challenge of rigorous academics and is excelling as she has mostly As in her academic classes, which include Honors, AP courses and (next semester) a CCP course. Nyjayah's teachers describe her as 'responsible, hardworking, and respectful.' I personally describe her as a compassionate, approachable, strong self-advocate who has the makings of a genuine leader for our school and wider community.”

Grade: SOPHOMORE HARDING HIGH SCHOOL When asked what she likes most about WGH, Nyjayah replied, “the education”. She has been in a number of schools and feels at home at WGH and that she can get something from her time in school.

She appreciates the personal connection and great advice from staff. Science instructor, Ms. Midgett, is her favorite instructor because she pushed her to take Advance Placement and Honors courses.

Nyjayaj is the president of the WGH chapter of YSU’s Academic Achievers. She is proud of her commitment to Academic Achievers as well as maintaining a place on the honor roll and being a member of the Renaissance Program.

After high school, she plans to continue her education at Youngstown State University and be an orthodontist.

Grade: FRESHMAN HARDING HIGH SCHOOL Zy’ion has found the teachers at WGH to be

nice, helpful, and that they hold students accountable for success.

Social studies instructor Mr. Spinden is his favorite teacher due to his fun and engaging instruction.

Zy’ion is proud of being able to keep his grades up and meet new friends in his first year of high school. He plays football and basketball, and would like to play football at the collegiate level.

According to Jefferson PK-8 teacher Rebeca Gabrick, “Tileah is the definition of the WARREN ACRONYM. She greets you with a big smile and demonstrates RESPECT to every individual she encounters throughout her day. On a daily basis, she puts forth 100% effort into every assignment or task assigned to her in all of her classes. She encourages classmates to put forth their best work always and praises them for their successes both in and out of the classroom.

She is always willing to help a peer who is in need.”

Jefferson are teachers – like What Tileah likes most about

Mr. Sandy, Mr. Seidel, and Ms. Mesaros - whom she describes as having patience with students and supportive by giving students opportunities to complete work, and acknowledging the students’ successes.

Tileah enjoys the challenge of her math class and has participated in peer mediation and the county-wide STEAM program. She also plays the trombone in the school band and is looking forward to being in the WGH Raider Marching Band when she goes to high school.

Her favorite book is "House Arrest."

Madison Johnson Away from school, Madison likes to play with friends, eat chicken tenders and fries, and loves it when she can go shopping at Five Below with her mom.

When she grows up, Madison would like to help others by starting a small business to help homeless people. She also wants to make safety keychains to help children not get kidnapped.

Grade: 4 Jefferson PK-8

Madison is new to Jefferson this year and really likes that her school has the Geography Bee and librarian Ms. Kittles, who is the best "because she brings all of her favorite books right up to the classroom."

Madison enjoys reading and writing, and her favorite teacher is Ms. Givens.

“Aiden Dean consistently demonstrates positive attributes in and out of the classroom. Aiden is a role model to his classmates and shows good WORK ETHIC throughout the day. He takes steps towards excellence every day both socially and academically. He assisted in organizing the service learning project for his SEL class in November.

He is an exemplary example of what W.A.R.R.E.N. represents.”

Grade: 7 Jefferson PK-8

Teachers’ relationships

with students is what Aiden likes most about Jefferson PK-8 school.

His favorite teacher is Ms. Mesaros and favorite subject is social studies.

Aiden is proud of his grades and his leadership in his SEL class’ service learning project that collected 600 cans of food for the Warren Family Mission.

While Aiden is not yet sure what he would like to study, he does know that after high school he would like to play sports at the collegiate level.

Grade: 3 Jefferson PK-8 Lorana really likes the

teachers at Jefferson PK-8 school. Ms. Ulrich is her favorite and she loves how the teacher plays games with the class to make learning fun.

Lorana’s favorite class is physical education and she enjoys doing gymnastics at home.

When asked what she would like to do in the future, Lorana excitedly replied, “Everything!”

Grade: 1 Jefferson PK-8 Abigail loves the opportunity

to run and play games during the school day. Her favorite teacher is Ms. Hathaway because she has taught the class so much.

Abigail really likes "Cat in the Hat" books, unicorns, and playing games on her new phone.

When she grows up she would like to be a “pizza girls” so she can spend time making her favorite food.

Samuel has been recognized by Mr. Guthrie for being "a model student who has displayed positivity and politeness." Mr. Guthrie applauds Samuel’s efforts to exemplify all areas of the WARREN Acronym this year.

Ms. Notar also spoke of Samuel’s emergence as a leader within his class and the school this year.

Samuel feels that

the best parts of Lincoln are being with his friends and not having to experience the bullying he previously had to at other schools.

His favorite subject is math, and his favorite teacher is Mr. Kelly as he is nice and funny.

Outside of school, Samuel enjoys hanging out with friends and eating salami sandwiches.

After high school, Samuel would like to join the Air Force like his dad.

Violet Martin Lincoln 3-5 Principal Ms. Peterson describes Violet as “an amazing role model who not only demonstrates every aspect of the WARREN ACRONYM, but is also full of Lincoln Pride and Positivity every day. Violet loves her school because she is able to learn new things; the teachers are kind to each other; and they compliment everyone.

Favorite teacher: “I like everyone, but if I had to pick someone it would be Ms. Grayham. She doesn’t yell, is sweet to everyone and teaches everyone."

Favorite subjects: science and math. Violet really likes that she is learning to multiply and divide this year.

Favorite book: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" Outside of school: Violet likes to help mom with her baby brother and help the family cook.

Violet would like to be a pre-school teacher when she grows up so she can teach kids new things.

What does Landon like most about school?

Learning how to spell and playing with friends.

Landon also stressed the importance of paying attention, keeping hands to oneself, and being good.

Favorite Book: "The LEGO Book" about digging.

Landon shared that he learned there is a tractor that can pick up three elephants at the same time.

At home, Landon like to play with his little brother and watch Paw Patrol. His favorite food is Mac & Cheese and when he grows up he wants to sell cars just like his dad.

Azarriah is most proud of her academic achievement as she has maintained High Honors throughout this school year. Here classroom dedication is balanced by her extracurricular participation in the STEM program as well as the 7th-grade basketball team.

Azarriah’s favorite teacher is Ms. Richardson because of all of the life lessons Azarriah learned in her time with Ms. Richardson.

In the future, Azarriah would like to play softball in college and become a pediatrician.

Amina likes all of the positive people she is surrounded by at Lincoln PK-8. She describes her friends and teachers as kind, supporting and showing a lot of love. While she likes all of her teachers, Ms. Massucci is her favorite as she taught Amina how to stand up for herself and helped her to understand how special she is.

Outside of school, Amina enjoys watching gymnastics and would like to compete in and coach the sport one day. Her favorite books are the "Baby-Sitters Club" series and she hopes to grow up to be someone who helps kids.

That people care about you, and that all the adults speak to you every morning. Kaylee’s favorite teacher is Ms. Gazo due to her funny and nice nature. Kaylee's favorite subject is science.

While not at school, Kaylee enjoys playing freeze tag and reading her favorite book, "Captain Underpants."

Kaylee would like to one day become an artist because she really likes to paint and draw.

and the nice and helpful teachers are what Ameera likes most about McGuffey.

She has participated in Science Club and is looking forward to working with the yearbook, going to football games, and socializing with other students when she attends WGH next year. After high school, Ameera plans to go to college and is considering a career in education.

Outside of school, Ameera enjoys painting and reading. Her last painting was a sunset and favorite book is "Let Me Hear a Rhyme."

“I would say that Justin exemplifies the R for RESPONSIBILITY

in the Warren ACRONYM. He works hard each day to follow the school rules and to complete his work. He has taken it upon himself, even as a student new to the district, to set an example for others with his behavior. He will often check in with students who are struggling with behavior or academics to see how he can help them. The day we got a new student, Justin asked to go see Mrs. Zagorec (his principal) to ask if the new student could be assigned to sit next to him at lunch. What My’Auni likes most

about school is spending time with friends and getting to learn new things. Reading and math are her favorite subjects.

When not in school, My’Auni enjoys playing with her nephew and spending time with family. Her favorite foods are salad and chicken.

My’Auni also likes it when her mom reads to her about the "Adventures of Pete the Cat," which is her favorite book.

Matthew feels that the students are the best part of McGuffey. He describes them as really nice. While science is his favorite subject, Ms. Kelsh, who teaches math, is his favorite teacher. Academically, Matthew is most proud of his high reading score on the fall assessments.

Matthew participates in Inspiring Minds and enjoys reading Richard Riorden books.

He hopes to go to college and learn about space exploration and study astrophysics.

Azari’Onna enjoys doing homework, getting good grades and making sure her classmates are being nice to each other. Her favorite teachers are Ms. Sauer and Ms. Aulizia because they are funny and really good teachers.

She also likes playing at recess and helping friends and would like to be a physical education teacher and a principal when she grows up.

Math and social studies are Darius’ favorite subjects and he likes Willard teachers Ms. Opperman, Ms. Miller and Ms. Hall for being funny, able to put a smile on everybody’s face and helping him to feel part of the school community.

Away from school, Darius enjoys reading mystery books and books about police investigations. Darius enjoys watching The First 48 and Marvel movies while at home.

He is a boxer who trains several times a week and is looking forward to his first match. Darius also hopes to play football for the school when he is old enough to do so.

Darius plans to be an engineer.

Sa’nya Sellers Sa’nya is being recognized for the EFFECTIVE BEHAVIOR she has shown to maintain a focus on her studies.

Choosing the right strategies to stay on task and complete daily assignments have been the key to her success.

Sa’nya is enjoying the opportunity to make new friends in her first year at Willard. Spelling is her favorite subject, with Mr. Pitzulo, Ms. Smith and Ms. Galbraith being her favorite teachers. She really appreciates Ms. Galbraith for always being there for her.

Outside of school, Sa’nya loves to play with her baby brother, dance, and sleep. Her favorite food is Chick fil-A waffle fries. Sa’nya would like to grow up to be a dancer.

Not only is she an excellent student, Willa is also connected to our school through extracurricul ar activities such as being a member of the WMS Swim Team, as well as a member of our 6-8 Willard Student Council.”

Grade: 7 Willard PK-8

of the opportunities for Willa appreciates all involvement that are available at Willard. She cites the after school STEM program, geography BE, 21st Century afterschool program, and National Junior Honor Society as some of the extracurriculars available for students. Willa competes on the swim team and is a member of Student Council.

Willa is most proud of keeping her grades up as she has maintained a place on the High Honor Roll during her time at Willard.

Willa’s goals involve finding a career in which she can help people, perhaps in education, possibly as a teacher of special needs students.

Andrea Mancia Flores “Andrea displays all areas of the WARREN ACRONYM every single day she is in school.

She always has a smile on her face and goes out of her way to greet staff every day. She is a model classmate and helps out in class however she can. She is a bubbly, positive young lady who is on the road to being someone big when she is grown! Thank you Andrea, we see you!”

Grade: 3 Willard PK-8

When it comes to Willard PK-8 school, Andrea likes how the teachers are nice, and how everyone always greets the students with “good morning” as they enter the school.

Her favorite teachers are Ms. James and Mr. Street, and her favorite subject is math.

While not at school she enjoys dancing at the studio she’s been at for four years and enjoys reading "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books.

Andrea would like to go to college and one day become a police officer or run a bakery.

First-grader Laran Dorsey loves participating in recess and learning at Willard PK-8. Math is his favorite subject and his favorite book is the one about the little bats.

Outside of school, Laran likes to play on swings and sliding boards.

He hopes to play basketball when he grows up.
