SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS Dispensing Literacy McDonald Local School District's Roosevelt Elementary obtained a grant from the GPD Group Employees' Foundation to implement a literacy-based program in conjunction with the school's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). With it, the school funded a Book Vending Machine and each month recognizes "Roosevelt Rockstars" from each classroom, focusing on positive choices and behaviors, as well as improvements in student learning and attitudes. Students redeem gold tokens they've earned for brand new books they get to keep. The program was implemented during the 2020-2021 school year.

STEM Nearly 100 students in grades 5-8 participated in the new TCESC STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) program that was launched in the second semester of 2020-2021.

The students represented schools from across Trumbull County.

The new learning opportunity, established and facilitated by the TCESC's Curriculum & Instruction specialists, was designed to enhance students’ online learning. The program serves students in grades 5-8.

TCESC's C& I team secured a $55,400 grant through Ohio Collaborative for Educating Remotely (OCER) and Transforming Schools to establish the new STEM program and built curriculum for STEM that can be used in any instructional model: synchronously, asynchronously, or hybrid – remotely or face-to-face.

The TCESC High School Art Show was held in April at the Medici Museum of Art in Howland. The juried show featured art created by 53 students from high schools across Trumbull County.

TRUMBULL COUNTY ESC RECOGNIZES 2021 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Abigail Schindell, a 2021 graduate of Hubbard Exempted Village School District, is this year's recipient of the $2,500 Franklin B. Walter All Scholastic Award.

HOWLAND – Abigail Schindell, a 2021 graduate of of Hubbard Exempted Village School District, received this year's $2,500 Franklin B. Walter All Scholastic Award.

She plans to study mathematics at Brown University. Her parents are Denise and John Schindell.

Abigail was among more than two dozen Trumbull County high school seniors awarded scholarships during the 2021 Scholarship and Recognition Breakfast Friday, May 14.

The breakfast, sponsored by the Trumbull County Educational Service Center Governing Board, was held at the Grand Resort in Howland. In all, a total of $38,000 in scholarships was awarded.

CLASS The Trumbull County Superintendents' Association recognized more than 120 high school seniors in April at the 2021 Valedictorian Breakfast at Leo's Ristorante. The students, from high schools across Trumbull County were recognized for their academic accomplishments.

TCESC Welcomes Dr. Reeves: Nationally Recognized Educational Leader The Trumbull County Educational Service Center will welcome nationally recognized educational leader Dr. Douglas Reeves, founder of Creative Leadership Solutions, for a professional learning experience for central office administrators and principals on Friday, June 11 at the TCESC's Central Offices in Niles.

Dr. Reeves will discuss achieving equity and excellence through the lens of student assessment design, effective feedback and grading. The sessions are focused on supporting principals/evaluators as districts move forward with OTES 2.0 & HQSD. Dr. Reeves is the author of more than 40 books and more than 100 articles on leadership and education. He has twice been named to the Harvard University Distinguished Authors Series and was named the Brock International Laureate for his contributions to education. His career of work in professional learning led to the Contribution to the Field Award from the National Staff Development Council, now Learning Forward.

The Trumbull County ESC hosted the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber's Lattes with Legislators' meeting in April. Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria, shown above, was the keynote speaker. Attendees included regional business and government officials.
