The three teens participate in the TCESC Essential Skills Program at St. Joseph’s, which serves as a site-based lab in Warren.

“We realized the importance of preparing students to transition into adulthood,” said the TCESC’s Gigi Strata, program supervisor. “This program gives them job skills, real life work experience they can take with them and apply to the jobs they hold once they are out of school.”

“It is beyond exciting and encouraging that we are able to provide this opportunity for our students. As this is the first year of the program , I look forward to the growth and continuation of this opportunity for years to come.”

The program was launched this past fall with the initial three students, but is expected to grow, said Laura Revetti, supervisor, TCESC ED Programs. Along with job experience, it provides future employment opportunities, she added.

Among other requirements, Essential Skills participants are expected to dress appropriately; understand workplace ethics and behavior; respect staff, clients and property; learn to work Independently and responsibly; learn to accept constructive criticism.

This year’s STEAM Powered Learning Showcase was jampacked with displays, demonstrations and performances as students from 17 Trumbull County public school districts took center stage Dec. 10 and 11 at Lordstown High School. We had 216 students participate in this year’s STEAM program.

From Superintendent

Michael Hanshaw 2019 has been winding down in a flurry of activity at the Trumbull County ESC, as I’m sure it has for all of you, Once again, our STEAM students closed out another year strong with outstanding displays, demonstrations and performances at our annual showcase. We have shared some photographs from this year’s event on pages 6 & 7.

We also introduce you to our Essential Skills students who are gaining job experiences that will help them transition into adulthood. We’ve launched this new program through our partnership with St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

We appreciate your continued support and look forward to collaborating with all of our partnering Trumbull County public school districts in 2020.

Champion teacher ‘Educator of the Year’ The North American Association for Environmental Education has named Champion Middle School teacher David Murduck Educator of the Year. For the past 19 of his 24 years in education, Murduck has taught at Champion Local Schools. He currently teaches fifth grade science.

Earlier this year, he was nominated for Ohio Teacher of the Year and was named one of the top four finalists.
