Steered Straight presents vape education assemblies at Hubbard Schools Last month, Hubbard Schools welcomed Steered Straight to the district. Steered Straight aims to steer youth toward making sound, rational decisions by creating a learning experience that provides them with a message of reality and helps them to make positive, informed choices. Steered Straight was founded in 2000 by Michael DeLeon, a successfully acclimated ex-offender who after nearly eight years of drug addiction and gang involvement, spent 12 years in state prison and halfway houses. He, along with other ex-offenders and motivational speakers, travel the country offering drug prevention education, character building and peer-mentor leadership training. During Steered Straight’s visit to Hubbard Schools, presenters discussed vaping and current youth drug trends. Students in grades 5-12 attended assemblies throughout the school day. After school, Steered Straight hosted a staff assembly. At 6:30 p.m., parents and the community were invited to attend “Vaping Me Crazy!” at Hubbard High School’s auditorium.
