presented by The Weld Trust during Thanksgiving week, November 22-29, 2020.
There were 841 runners and walkers that participated in the first ever virtual 5K and 2K races. With the participation of race registrants, individual donations, and sponsors, over $15,000 in net proceeds was raised to support patients of the CardioVascular Institute of North Colorado .
The NCMC Foundation extends a huge thank you to all of our sponsors and committee members who helped make the event so successful!
“I would like to extend a special thank you to Race Director Heather Schminke,” said Allison Miller, Development Program Director at the NCMC Foundation . “Her dedication, as well as the dedication from the cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation staff, is what makes this a fun and special event year after year . ”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the number one cause of death for men and women in the United States . According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States .
What a creative photo from this bunch!
The NCMC Foundation utilizes proceeds from the Turkey Trot event through individual grants that provide financial assistance to patients of the cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs, who would otherwise not be able to engage in the program . Participating in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation through the CardioVascular Institute of North Colorado helps individuals improve strength and endurance so they may return to their usual activities and life demands as much as possible with renewed confidence.
Our future’s so bright (and so is the sun), we should all be wearing shades!

For more information on the NCMC cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation programs, please call 970-810-6204. If you are interested in donating to the Cardiac Rehab Turkey Trot fund, please visit ncmcfoundation.org.

NORTH COLORADO MEDICAL CENTER FOUNDATION
Get to Know Tom Grant
NCMC Foundation and The Weld Trust Board Chairman and President
For years, Tom Grant has prioritized the health, wellness, and education of his Weld County neighbors . He knows healthy communities are ones that can thrive, and he strives to maintain an active role in making his city a better place for all .
Initially the Chairman and President of The Weld Trust, Grant also became the Chairman and President of the North Colorado Medical Center (NCMC) Foundation when the two organizations aligned in spring of 2020 . He is currently the head for both organizations’ boards . The two entities work hand-in-hand, offering support to healthcare and education philanthropic efforts in Greeley and surrounding communities .
“The NCMC Foundation has done such wonderful work in our community and has raised money for important projects related to healthcare,” he said . “If you don’t have a healthy community, many other assets of the community can’t be fully enjoyed, which is why having a strong healthcare system is so important . ”
Grant became involved in local philanthropic efforts to make a difference in Weld County and be a good steward for the hospital . The mission of the NCMC Foundation speaks to him in that through fundraising and charitable caregiving, the overall quality of care at the hospital can improve to provide additional resources to patients in need . Moreover, the partnership between the NCMC Foundation and The Weld Trust allows for larger giving opportunities and a greater reach to the populations they serve .
“The NCMC Foundation and The Weld Trust boards work together to provide a number of projects and gifts that will improve the health and education of our community,” he said . “I love getting to work alongside my colleagues — who are very smart and talented, and have great ideas — to do good for our Weld County citizens .”
Grant grew up in the Denver area and moved to Greeley in 1994 to take on the role of assistant city attorney . He decided he never wanted to leave . He and his wife, Margaret, have been Tom Grant married for 31 years and raised their family here . They have two sons: Reid, 29, who works in New York City for Goldman Sachs, and Michael, 25, who works at a tech company in Denver and recently started law school . “I have a great affinity for Greeley and there are so many wonderful things about this area, including the people, that really kept us here,” Grant said . Grant is a partner at Grant and Hoffman Law Firm, and when he isn’t participating in one of his many board duties, he turns his attention to his clients and their legal issues . In addition to his roles for The Weld Trust and NCMC Foundation, Grant is a board member for Greeley’s Downtown Development Authority . He also served on the Poudre River Trail Board for nearly 20 years . You can find Grant spending his free time in the mountains, hiking, going on walks, reading, and taking advantage of Greeley’s Friday Fests in the summer — post-pandemic, of course. Grant appreciates all of the hard work done by the NCMC Foundation team and board . He said their efforts have made a huge impact in the community and that everyone has played an important role in making the NCMC Foundation into what it is today . He hopes to continue the organization’s success and expand efforts to benefit Weld County’s future in healthcare.
