Last year Suhn Cattle Company celebrated its 20th Anniversary Sale. I myself have been involved in this great breed of cattle for the past 34 years and this marks the 5th year that this sale offering has been held under the GENETRUST marketing banner. We are grateful for the success that this marketing alliance has achieved and the continued confidence our customer base has shown in the product that we provide. It will continue to stay as our primary focus to earn and build upon the trust and confidence from you, our customer base, which has developed because of the predictable, consistent product we offer. We do not endeavor to offer animals that maximize production numbers for any one or a few traits, or simply breed for cattle that will read trait leading EPD numbers. Our goal is balance and cattle that will work in real world environments for real world stockmen. The market is great but we stand on the principles that got us here. We could capitalize by cataloging more bulls and lower our criteria for scrotal size and individual performance but that does not benefit our customers in helping to capture and capitalize on one of the greatest market opportunities we have ever seen in this business. FEEDLOT – CARCASS INFORMATION Last year in this sale catalog we reported to you about a group of cattle that were fed in Kansas from Suhn Cattle Co. and were a mix of steers and heifers. At harvest they graded 88% choice or better with 54.5% of the cattle qualifying for CAB or other quality based premiums. They dressed 64.3% and returned a $78.67 profit at a time when most cattle that were being harvested were losing their owners money. This past year on the 28th of August we sent another 81 head of steers that were the cull mates to the bulls we sold as yearlings at CRC and Cavender’s. Fifteen head of these were grazed through the summer in Kansas and the rest were from other GT Partners that were cattle from Texas and the southeast that had been grazed on grass through the summer at Schmidt Farms. The amazing thing about these cattle was
that after being fed through one of the coldest winters in recent history only one steer was treated for a minor sickness. They were harvested the first part of February and loaded on trucks in blizzard conditions. These cattle ended up grading 73% choice and 51% were CAB or other quality based premiums. They dressed 64.5% and from a projection based on prices at the time they entered the feedlot that had these cattle losing money they ended up making a profit of $244.58 per head. Not bad for a set of predominately southern origin eared cattle that some would say cannot feed in a cold environment. We look forward to continuing these feeding projects and evaluating what our genetics will do in the toughest of environments alongside other breeds of cattle.

History of ULTRABLACKS We bred some of our first Ultrablack cattle in 1996. At that time we could not even get EPD’S generated on them and for that reason we backed off the program for a few years. We analyzed the cattle we had and when breeding them back to Brangus were convinced that by putting Brangus back on them they became more predictable and consistent in their type and performance. We made the decision to move forward with that program and eventually the IBBA started to compute EPD’s. The Ultrablack program has always been a part of our goal to produce a product for our commercial customer that would work for him and the consumer. We did not sit on the sidelines and wait to see if this program worked or to assess its profitability pending a by- law change by the Association. We searched for the best and most proven Angus genetics available and have used the front end of our Brangus population,
including through ET, to offer our customers a product that would benefit their program and their success. Our goal from the beginning, as it is today, was to breed cattle that would benefit and enhance what our commercial customer needed. It did not take long for us to realize the added benefits Ultrablacks could have when properly implemented into the purebred population through a breeding up to Brangus program. We were encouraged that last year a bylaw change voted on by the membership allowed us to register as Brangus those animals that had reached a 7/8 Brangus percentage. This allows breeders to benefit from the potential of the Ultrablack population. You can save shipping and handling charges by picking up semen that you will need for your spring breeding season at the Suhn Cattle Company Sale. Representatives from either GENETRUST or Integrated Breeders will be available Tuesday to fill your orders. We would ask that you keep your orders to goblet increments of 5’s or 10’s so that we can avoid excessive handling of semen. The cattle will not sell in numerical lot order. We will have a printed sale order prior to the sale.
Genetic condition identified in Brangus Breed Developmental Duplication (DD) is a genetic condition inherited as a simple recessive that was first reported in the Angus breed on 8/12/13. Upon release of the first tests, which were performed by Dr. Jonathan E. Beever, Ph.D. of the University of Illinois, a Brangus bull was reported to be a carrier of this genetic condition. GENETRUST is currently in the process of finalizing tests on a group of herd sires, and intends to have all sale cattle tested prior to sale. We will make the results of those tests available prior to sale, and will designate the cattle as DDF – indicating the animal is free of the genetic condition, or DDC – indicating the animal is a carrier of the genetic condition. We plan to post test results on our website www.genetrustbrangus.com, and we will also use the website to provide updates and options on how to effectively manage this condition.

Trusted Performance Information We are extremely dedicated to providing our customers the genetics needed to help positively impact their bottom line. We will not compromise the integrity of our data. Our utmost goal is to provide the information that will successfully identify the genetics most needed in your particular operation. The information provided by the IBBA was provided at weaning and yearling by the breeder for computation. We believe in EPD’s, but fully realize that they are only as good as the information provided to the association. Inaccurate weights and faulty contemporary groups lead to poor information and bad selection decisions. Please realize that these bulls were in different contemporary groupings at weaning; therefore, it is not fair to compare birth, weaning and yearling weights from one herd to another. A wide range of environments are represented in this offering and thus have affected those weights, plus different management comes into play, i.e. creep fed vs. not creep fed. Within herd weights and ratios were good when that was the only information we had. However, EPD’s are a much better indicator of genetic potential and are the only way across herd comparisons can be made. Also, we have listed the current non-parent Brangus breed average EPD’s in the catalog for your reference and comparison on how individual lots compare to the average of the breed in any trait.
Partial Breeding Guarantee All bulls selling in this sale have passed a thorough and stringent BSE (Breeding Soundness Evaluation) by Dr. Preston Hickman. Each bull selling has passed Dr. Hickman’s tests and is considered a satisfactory potential breeder. All bulls are guaranteed as breeding bulls through the first breeding season from the date of purchase. Please keep in mind that we expect the bull (s) to be treated with proper animal husbandry and that they are young bulls and require some additional management compared to mature bulls. Proper management should include the following requirements: 12 to 15 month old bulls at time of sale are utilized in a ratio of 1 bull to 15 cows and 16 to 20 month old bulls one bull to 20 cows. Furthermore, if these requirements are not adhered to or these bulls are placed in service or are housed until time of service with mature bulls then GENETRUST will not stand behind this breeding guarantee. If a problem does arise please contact GENETRUST, Vern Suhn 620.583.3706 or Craig Green 870.834.1976, as soon as any question occurs as to a bull’s breeding soundness. GENETRUST will evaluate the problem, consult with a veterinarian if needed and if replacement is required will replace with a bull of equal quality. If a replacement bull is not available GENETRUST will issue credit in a future GENETRUST sale. Please contact us before shipping any bulls. Shipping an animal you feel is unsatisfactory before contacting GENETRUST will void our guarantee.
Maintenance After the Sale SCC will work with customers on delivery of bulls in an effort to have the bulls delivered to customers as soon as possible after the sale. However, if you are not ready for the bulls at this
time we will maintain the bulls at the ranch for a period of time until you are ready for them. A nominal fee of $3.50 per day will be charged plus any veterinarian charges incurred will be billed. Bulls will be maintained on a growing ration in grass traps. Bulls become the buyer’s responsibility immediately after the sale. SCC or GENETRUST is not responsible for insurance costs or death.
Trucking At the conclusion of the sale or as soon as possible following the sale if purchases are made via video or sight unseen agreement; please notify the sales staff as to specific instructions about cattle delivery. If you request our assistance GENETRUST staff will make every effort to help coordinate the most reliable and economical trucking available. Trucking expense will be the responsibility of the purchaser. If you prefer to make your own arrangements Larry Smith Trucking will be available sale day to discuss your needs or we can place you in contact with other reliable truckers. Please note that the animals you purchase become your responsibility at time of purchase. GENETRUST nor any of the breeders involved in this sale take responsibility for animals that may be injured in transport. Insurance is available for those who would desire that coverage.
After the Sale...
Have we ever really stopped to think about and evaluate what we ask of livestock when we relocate them? With humans a change of address is one of the most stressful events in their lives. When livestock are purchased and trucked hundreds of miles to differing climates and feed sources we place them in a most stressful and sometimes hard to adapt situations.
What can we do to help alleviate some of that stress? 1. Have clean water and good quality feed available upon arrival. 2. Keep them in a small pen or lot for several days allowing them to fill back up, adjust to new surroundings and so you can watch them closely for any health issues that may arise. 3. Double check health protocol with previous owner so if there are any vaccinations that my be needed in your area that have not already been done they can be taken care of. 4. When you co-mingle them with your cattle make sure they are placed with like age groups. For example, do not turn yearling bulls out with mature bulls and expect them to survive. Remember that younger cattle are still growing and maturing. Do not expect them to compete with older more mature cattle for the same available feed stuff and expect them to reproduce and perform at optimum levels. 5. It is always a good idea when first unloading at a new location to have another animal in a nearby pen to provide companionship.

Expected Progeny Difference (EPDs) is the best estimate of an animal’s genetic merit for a particular trait. It takes into account the animals’ own performance compared with its contemporaries and the performance of its relatives compared against their contemporaries.
Total Maternal (TM) also, called M&G EPD predicts weaning weight of calves from a bull’s daughters.
CE Direct (CED) is a measure of the ease at which a bulls’ calves will be born.

“Good Morning Vern, I have been meaning to write you for some time now and finally found the time to do so, even though it is long overdue. I wanted to send a quick email thanking you for your assistance when looking to purchase a bull at the 2011 Cavenders Bull Sale… We have bought bulls from other Brangus breeders in the past and thus far these have been some of the best calves to hit the ground. We have been very impressed by the amount of bone, rib and temperament of the calves. We are a small breeder and run only 60 registered females on 3000 rugged acres, but the Hombre bull was able to adapt very well and got the majority of the cows bred. We then turned him right back out on another ranch with our commercial cows, in which he crossed up perfect and we have these calves already sold to a commercial cattleman as replacement females. Hopefully this gets the word out about GENETRUST out west here and maybe give you a little more business from this part of the country. In your search for a herd bull if your list of criteria includes moderate framed, big boned and big footed, super rib shape, thick topped and performance to compete with bulls two frame sizes larger look no further. 98A is sired by Suhn’s Dimension 894U18 who was one of the most talked about bulls when he sold in the 2010 Suhn Cattle Co. Bull Sale to Vorel Farms. This lot very closely resembles his sire but with added pounds and data. 98A posted an AWW of 757 lb. to ratio 104. He went on to establish an AYW of 1375 lb. to ratio 108 and scanned an AREA of 15.46 to ratio 105. His dam has been a standout producer for the Hughes’s and has done what needs to be expected of all cows—

This lot ranks in the top 30% for eight traits. His sire, Coronado, was the high selling bull through the 2011 GT and Suhn Cattle Co. Bull Sale for $25,000. His dam originated at Schmidt Farms and now resides at Draggin’ M Ranch and has the distinction of being to the highly respected, calving ease sire, SF Dependence 535U24. With the 535 cow family on the top and bottom side of his pedigree it is interesting to note that this individual traces back to two full sister sired by Tyson 535B2 and 535B15. 535A3 ranks in the top 10% of the breed for weaning weight and yearling weight, the top 15% for CED, birth weight, M&G and scrotal, the top 20% for REA and the top 30% for Milk. His own

Commercial Female Offering
Zak and Cortney O’Brien Replacement Pairs Backed by Generations of AI We will sell by video (the cattle will not be at the sale site) 40 head of 3 & 4 year old cows from the heart of the O’Brien cow herd. The cows were all home raised, have been calfhood vaccinated, tested negative for PI/ BVD and double vaccinated for Trich Guard. All of these cows raised a calf last year and thus far have stood up to Zak’s stringent culling procedures. They were AI bred to New Concept, Augustus, and Landau on 6/28-29/2013 and clean up bulls removed Sept. 1. Clean up bulls were a Brangus and Ultrablack bull from the O’Brien’s excellent herd bull battery. They will start calving the end of March and O’Brien’s will deliver sound uddered cows with calves at side ready to be bred back. The AI calves at side are 3rd generation AI calves as their dams were sired by such well known Angus and Brangus sires as Connealy Lead On, Connealy Impression, Connealy Sullivan, GAR Loaded, Suhn’s Next Step 331R7, and Suhn’s Distinction plus their dams were primarily sired by Suhn’s Next Step 331R7, Suhn’s Alydar 416N3, and Suhn’s Affirmed 416N4. This will make an excellent set of replacement females as the majority of the culling process has already been handled through the first two calf crops and it is not often that you are afforded the opportunity to purchase young productive females from one of the most progressive and best managed operations in the country. These females will sell in eight groups of five pairs with the purchaser of the first group at the discretion of the auctioneer and sale manger being able to take as many groups as he wants up to eight groups. Bid price
will be per pair and cost of each group will be 5 times the bid price with 25% payable the day of sale. Remaining balance will be payable by May 1st. New owners will take delivery between the 15th of May and first of June of cows with live healthy calves at side. Vern Suhn & Zak O’Brien will be at delivery site to sort cattle. The purchaser of the first group gets the top sort, purchaser of group 2 the second sort and so on until we have each group selected. Point of delivery will be at the Zak O’Brien headquarters in the northeast corner of OK just south of Edna, KS or south and east of Coffeyville, KS. We will be able to provide health papers for interstate shipment and livestock will need to be loaded out on delivery date. Not often does this opportunity avail itself to have the chance to purchase commercial females with this strong of a genetic base and from a program with the management strength and pride plus the integrity of ownership as the O’Brien program. Bidding
Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder without reserve. The auctioneer will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision on such matters shall be final.
Terms
Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold, but it shall be the obligation of the seller to see that animals are fed and cared for, until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of 48 hours after the sale, whichever occurs first. After 48 hours a maintenance fee of $3.50 per day will be assessed until pickup.
Cash Sales
All sales are for cash unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with the seller or GENETRUST prior to the sale. Payment must be made within 30 days of the sale date.
Sight Unseen Purchases
Buyers may purchase cattle through GENETRUST personnel at auction or private treaty without viewing the cattle. For sight unseen purchases, the buyer has the right of inspection at the time of delivery. If the animal is deemed unsatisfactory, it may be reloaded on the delivery truck at no obligation to the buyer. All transportation expenses will be the responsibility of GENETRUST. If the purchaser is unable to view the animal upon delivery that purchaser would have one week to deem the animal as unsatisfactory. In this instance the buyer may, at their expense, return the animal to GENETRUST for a refund of the purchase price. DVAuction purchases do not fall under this guarantee.
Certificate of Registry
A transferred certificate of registry will be furnished to the purchaser for each registered animal within in 45 days of proper settlement.
Health
Interstate health papers suitable for interstate shipment will be furnished on all animals as required by federal and state regulations.
Announcements
Any changes from the information of any kind in this catalog will be provided in a sale day supplement sheet or announced from the auction block and such information shall take precedence over cataloged information.
Breeding Guarantee
1. The seller guarantees all animals to be breeders with the exception of:
a) Calves under 12 months of age at the time of sale; b) animals shown by purchaser after sale in which the breeding guaranteed (if any) shall be agreed upon between the seller and the buyer; c) animals who suffer injury or disease following the sale; d) animals subjected to gross negligence by willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser. 2. The seller guarantees that all bulls are breeders for a period of 90 days following the initial turnout date with buyers herd as long as this occurs within 60 days of date of sale. This only applies to bulls that are at least 12 months old at time of sale and have not been allowed to run with the herd until at least 14 months of age. Seller does not guarantee death loss or injury. Any bull which settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by competent veterinarians, mutually agreed upon by buyer and seller, during any six-month period of trial (provided for in paragraph 2 of the section of these sales terms and conditions entitled “Option and Privilege of Return and Adjustment”), shall be considered a breeder unless otherwise agreed by the buyer and the seller the seller makes no guarantees with respect to the bull’s ability to freeze semen. 3. Cows with calves at their side are presumed to be breeders with no further fertility guarantee. 4. “Safe-in-calf ” females are guaranteed by the seller to have been examined by a competent veterinarian or reproductive technician and determined to be safe-in-calf by examination or other proven method (e.g., ultrasound, pregnancy blood tests, and rectal palpation). 5. Exposed females are not guaranteed to be with calf 6. “Open” females are guaranteed by the seller to be without calf. 7. Donor females: a.) Unless otherwise agreed by the buyer and the seller, a female that has been used in an embryo transfer program is not guaranteed to be a breeder after the date of the sale. b.) Unless otherwise agreed by the buyer and the seller, a female is not guaranteed to be a breeder after the date of the sale, when that female is to be used, or attempted to be used, in an embryo transfer program. 8. The seller makes the following guarantees with respect to all “pregnant recipients”: (i) that the female is pregnant, (ii) that the resulting calf is of the pedigree represented, and (iii) that the resulting calf is of the sex represented (if so represented).
Semen
1. Unless otherwise agreed by the buyer and the seller, with respect to the sale of semen the seller makes no guarantees with respect to the performance or characteristics of such semen and the buyer is purchasing such semen “as is.”

Embryos
1. Embryos being offered for sale will be sold “as is” unless the seller provides additional guarantees.
Privileges of Return or Adjustment: Options
1. With the exception of any applicable transportation expenses described herein, a seller shall never be liable to a buyer for an amount greater than the original selling price of any animal sold under these Sales Terms and Conditions. 2. Unless otherwise stated, all claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing to the seller within 180 days following the sale of the animal in question. 3. If an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to the seller if it is in good condition and complies with the health requirements of the seller’s state. At the option of the buyer, the seller may issue a credit to the buyer for use in a future purchase or provide an animal of equal value subject to the approval of buyer. If the buyer exercises either such option, the claim shall be deemed fully and satisfactorily resolved. However, in the event that the buyer requests a refund of the purchase price, the seller may, at its option, either issue a refund of the full purchase price or, shall have 180 days from the date the animal is returned to the seller’s farm to conduct a trial to demonstrate the returned animal is a breeder. Refund of the full purchase price or demonstrated proof that the animal is a breeder during the test trial shall be deemed full satisfaction and settlement of the claim. Any expense incurred for transporting an animal claimed to be a non-breeder will be the responsibility of the buyer, except that the seller will be responsible for transportation costs in excess of the distance between the buyer’s farm and the location where the sale took place. If the seller proves the animal to be a breeder, it will be the obligation of the buyer to take delivery of the animal and pay all transportation expenses. 4. If a female sold as “safe in calf ” proves not to be in calf, the seller must make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer or, at the buyer’s option, refund the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller. Any claim for adjustment or refund under this paragraph must be made in writing to the seller on or before the first anniversary of the date of the sale. 5. If a female represented as “safe in calf ” to a certain bull at the time of sale proves to have been bred to a different bull, the seller must make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer or, at the buyer’s option, refund the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller. Any claim for adjustment or refund under this paragraph must be made in writing to the seller on or before the first anniversary of the date of sale.

Those animals upon which parentage verification has been recorded with the IBBA will be so noted in the sale catalog or in a supplement sheet. At time of purchase it becomes the buyer’s responsibility to adhere to the rules of the IBBA regarding parentage verification for animals used for semen and embryo production. 8. If the resulting calf of a pregnancy is not of the sex represented at the time of the sale, the seller is obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer or, at the buyer’s option, refund the purchase price upon the return of the animal to the farm of the seller. Any claim for adjustment or refund under this paragraph must be made in writing to the seller on or before the first anniversary date of the sale. 9. Unless stated otherwise, all transportation expenses incurred will be the responsibility of the buyer, except that the seller will be responsible for transportation costs in excess of the distance between the buyer’s farm and the location where the sale took place.
RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS
The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Other than the guarantees and warranties stated above, no other warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction. Neither GENETRUST, the ranch the sale is being held on, nor any other sale consultant or persons connected with the management of this GENETRUST sale, assumes any liability, legal or otherwise.
6. If a female sold as “open” proves to be with calf, the buyer may return the animal to the farm of the seller prior to calving for a refund of the full purchase price or for another animal of GENETRUST at Suhn Cattle Company - Page 39
