“V” tub vs. Rounded tub “V” tub •

Advantages o With “V” shape the side walls take some of the weight for the belt o Easy to build Disadvantages o If angle is too steep the load sits higher in the tub, making a high center of gravity o If angle is not steep enough the material will not fall freely to the belt causing the trailer to not unload clean o Bridging (this is when the bottom unloads but the top stays wedged in place and needs to be manually collapsed) o To get same capacity, load must be piled above the tub crossbars. This means more friction, and power required to unload

Rounded tub (Trout River Live Bottom) •

Advantages o Walls take weight from the belt to decrease the wear and power requirements for the conveyor system o Low center of gravity o High capacity o Clean unload o The increasing slope funnels materials to the belt without bridging Disadvantages o Slightly more time consuming to manufacture
