FFN – Retrospective Nordland College of Art and Film

Verden blir større i Kabelvåg

Men påvirkningen går begge veier. Her er sterke regissørstemmer.

Kabelvåg: A Wider Perspective

In Kabelvåg, an old fishing village in Lofoten with only 1,700 inhabitants, a vital and exciting film and art scene has developed, with Nordland College of Art and Film as an important contributor. The school was founded in 1997, and has students from Norway and abroad. Tromsø International Film Festival is happy to present a 15-year anniversary retrospective of its production.

Included in this sidebar are features, documentaries, animation films and experimental films. It signals the strong influence of Kabelvåg on the filmmakers: Not only is the beautiful Lofoten scenery frequently present – the people and stories that exist in Kabelvåg have also found their way into many of the films.

However, influences go both ways. This sidebar is also a demonstration of the variety of perspectives that students bring with them to Kabelvåg. At their best, the films are characterized by an openness and generosity that is not often seen in student productions – they are both original and challenging.

For Tromsø International Film Festival, Nordland College of Art and Film is a source of inspiration and optimism. Happy anniversary!

Spesialvisninger

spECiAl sCrEEnings

A special screening is not like other screenings, to point out the obvious. In this sidebar, we present a whole range of singular film experiences, like the silent film concerts and happenings at the Snow Screen. One of the most special things about these very special screenings, is that most of them are absolutely unique, so this is a good place to start planning your festival!

FIlMOGRAPHY (UTvAlG/SElECTION)

2000 ETT FALL & EN LØSNING (SHORT) 2001 TWO FOR THE ROAD (SHORT) 2002 NEVER NEVER LAND (SHORT) 2003 LOOSE ENDS (SHORT) 2007 RADIOPIRATENE / THE RADIO PIRATES 2010 HULL I HIMMELEN (SHORT) «Hvorfor tok jeg ikke trappa?»

Nine very different individuals, all with some personal issues, are going to a social event in a New York skyscraper penthouse when their elevator gets stuck. Most of them are calm about it at first, but as time passes and no help arrives they are starting to get worried. And their spirits are not exactly elevated when it is revealed that one of them carries a bomb. Now they have to race against time to get out alive.

The action sequences are relatively few, although some of them are fairly bloody, and the film is mainly shot in one confined location. Thus, the characters and their relation to one another is what drives elevator forward; we get intimately acquainted with their various personality defects, including cowardice, racism and greed.
