Rocky Mountain House’s premier event rental facility, the Lou Soppit Community Centre is a community gathering hall with over 5,000 sq ft of rental space. The Centennial Campground is located in the centre of Town across from Pioneer School. It has 15 sites with gravel pads, picnic tables and fire pits. Five sites have power, ten sites have no services. Washrooms with showers and potable water is available on site.

Main pool is available for lengths. Leisure pool is open for low intensity exercise and therapy. Whirlpool is open.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 - 8:30 PM there will be only two lanes available.

Preschool Swim

Leisure Pool is open for a quiet swim for caregivers with children under 7 years of age. Whirlpool is open.

Public & Toonie Swim

All pools (including slide & rope) are open for recreational swimming.

Aquafit Ages 16+

Drop-in instructed fitness class in the main pool. Followed by optional time in the whirlpool.

Adult Leisure Swim Ages 18+

All pools open for water fitness (water walking, stretching, physiotherapy, etc.)

Step 1 Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AED

Cost: $110 Feb 28 - March 2 Friday 4-8pm, Saturday 8am-4pm, Sunday 8am-12pm

Step 2 Bronze Medallion

Lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness.

Prerequisites: 13+ and current Intermediate First Aid

Cost: $144 March 7-9 Friday 4-8pm, Saturday 8am-4pm, Sunday 8am-4pm

Step 3 Bronze Cross

Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society ’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.

Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion and current Intermediate First Aid.

Cost: $132 March 14-16 Friday 4-8pm, Saturday 8am-4pm, Sunday 8am-4pm

Step 4

National Lifeguard

This certification prepares lifeguards to fulfill the role of professional facilitator of safe, enjoyable aquatics in a pool setting.

Prerequisites: Bronze Cross, 15+ and current Intermediate First Aid.

Cost: $315 April 4-6 and 11-13 Friday 4-8pm, Saturday 8am-4pm, Sunday 8am-4pm

National Lifeguard Recertification Prerequisite: current Intermediate First Aid

Cost: $72 April 12 8am -12pm

Step 5 Swim & Lifesaving Instructor Course

Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating participants in the Swim for Life® and Canadian Swim Patrol programs. Lifesaving Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating participants in the Bronze Medals, Distinction, Boat Rescue and Lifesaving Society CPR programs.

Prerequisites: 15+ and current Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard

Cost: $430 March 24-28 8am - 4pm

Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Preschool

Age 4 Months - 6 Years

The Preschool Program works to ensure children become comfortable in the water and have fun developing a foundation of water skills. Activities to teach Water Smart® education key messages are incorporated into all levels.

Squid (Preschool 1) (3 -6 yrs)

Swordfish (Preschool 2) (3 -6 yrs)

The Parent & Tot Program structures in-water interaction between caregiver and child and the importance of play in developing water -positive attitudes and skills. Register by age as activities/ progressions are based on child development.

Squid is the first unparented swimming lesson. Children will learn to be comfortable in the water, get their face wet, blow bubbles, and learn basic floats with assistance.

Dolphin (Preschool 3) (3 -6 yrs)

Children will learn how to glide and float without assistance up to a distance of 5m. Deep water activities are also introduced in this level with lifejackets.

Orca (Preschool 4) (3-6 yrs)

Children are introduced to front crawl, swim longer distances, and the Swim to Survive standards taught by the Lifesaving Society: 1. Jump into deep water.

Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Swimmer program

Start here if your child is comfortable with their face being submerged in the pool and able to float on their own. Children will learn how to glide through the water and be introduced to flutter kick.

Cost: $55

Shark (Preschool 5) (3 -6 yrs)

Children will be introduced to back crawl and will increase their distances for all swims. If they complete this level they can go into Swimmer 2 when they reach 6 years old.

Age 6 -16 Years

The Swimmer Program uses in -water practice for swimmers of any ability to develop swimming strokes and skills. Activities to teach Water Smart® education key messages are incorporated into all levels.

Swimmer 1

Designed to introduce children to the water in a safe and fun way. Swimmers will learn the basics of swimming: face in the water blowing bubbles, floating, gliding, and kicking.

Swimmer 2 Prep (optional)

Cost: $55

Designed by our staff to transition swimmers to the next level. Swimmers will increase endurance and be introduced to combination glides in the main pool.

Skip this class if your swimmer is confident in the main pool and deep water, and has a strong front flutter kick.

Swimmer 2

Children who are comfortable in the main pool and have a strong flutter kick will advance their skills, be introduced to front and back crawl, and deep water skills. Cost: $55

Swimmer 3

Swimmers learn how to improve front and back crawl and are introduced to diving, treading water and whip kick. Cost: $66

Swimmer 4

Swimmers improve front and back crawl endurance and skill. Breaststroke is introduced. This level completes the Lifesaving Society's Swim to Survive Standard.

Cost: $66

Swimmer 5

Swimmers improve technique for all strokes and learn more diving skills, treading water, and sprinting drills.

Cost: $66

Swimmer 6

Swimmers are introduced to lifesaving skills: eggbeater, head-up front crawl, and different entries, and advance all stroke techniques.

Canadian Swim Patrol

(After completing Swimmer 6)

Canadian Swim Patrol is a fun and engaging program in which participants improve their swimming skills and strokes, learn basic rescue, first aid, and safety skills while engaging with people their own age and becoming strong leaders in our community! Register after completing Swimmer 6 - Leads into Bronze Awards

Cost: $74

Develops individual fitness levels to meet a timed 100m swim and 350m workout. Water proficiency skills include: swim with clothes, ready position, foot -first and head -first surface dives. First Aid Skills include conducting a primary assessment and initiating EMS. Victim recognition and throwing assists are other key elements of the program.

Enhances capability in the water, including stride entry, forward and backward underwater somersaults, lifesaving eggbeater kick and increased fitness levels to meet a 200m timed swim. Rescue skills involve an increased skill level in first aid basics, victim recognition and non -contact rescues.

Cost: $74

An excellent preparation for the Bronze Star award. Star Patrol demands good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment. Participants develop lifesaving and first aid skills; further refine front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke (100m each); and complete 600m workouts and 300m timed swims.

Lifesaving Society Adult Swimmer Program Age 16 +

The Adult Swimmer Program is for beginners or swimmers who want to improve their skills. Within the Adult Swimmer curriculum, participants set their own goals to develop water confidence and recognizable strokes.

Adult 1 - Beginner

Participants are taught the basics of swimming successfully including breath control underwater, floating, gliding, kicking, intro to deep water skills, front and back crawl.

Cost: $74

Adult 2 - Intermediate Participants learn front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke techniques. Participants will also be introduced to deep water skills.

Cost: $74

Adult 3 - Advanced

Participants are introduced to workouts, interval training, and endurance swims, to achieve the participant’s recreational swimming and fitness goals.

Cost: $74

This program strives to improves lifesaving skills, leaderships skills, and swimming abilities by setting personal goals. These can be achieved in practice and competition.

Prerequisite: Must be able to swim 25m Cost: $94

On arrival please check in at the Guest Services desk. Here you can purchase a daily drop in or membership option and have a Rocky Pass card assigned to you. Once you have a Recreation Membership you can provide your name or self scan your Rocky Pass card to access the Fitness Centre.

Our goal is to provide a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all members. Please review our Safety Rules and Etiquette, located by the fitness centre change rooms. By following the guidelines, you help us maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for all members.

Strength-based circuits that allow you to get a full body workout in by hitting a different muscle group at each station. Many variations offered to suit your needs and all levels of fitness welcome.

Choose your level of cardio intensity and then focus on core strengthening and stabilization exercises to help you build a solid foundation. More than just your typical sit-ups and crunches. Varying levels for every kind of body.

Focus on a powerlifting and strength-building foundation. You will learn how to squat, bench press and deadlift using barbells and other tools to help you build your own personal power goals in a safe and effective way.

This class combines the best of cardiovascular and strength training at a higher intensity level. Sessions focus on developing outstanding cardio, endurance and technique using functional movements and bodyweight, kettlebells, dumbbells, medicine balls and plyometrics.

This class gives you a full body workout by using the TRX suspension trainer along with your own body weight. Each participant controls the level of intensity by working at their own pace. This class combines strength and mobility taken from Pilates-, Barre- and Yoga -style moves. All levels welcome!

STRONG Mondays & Wednesdays 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

A revolutionary workout where every move is synced to the beat of the music. Stop counting the reps. Start training to the beat. STRONG NATION combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to motivate your every single move. Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the beat, helping you make it to that last rep.

SPIN Mondays & Wednesdays 7:00 PM - 7:45 PM

Our certified spin instructor will lead you through a 45-minute cardiovascular workout using low impact spin bikes. Cardio kickboxing is a group fitness class that combines martial arts techniques with light cardio. This workout challenges the beginner and elite athlete alike. Build stamina, improve coordination and flexibility, and burn calories as you build lean muscle with this fun and challenging workout.

GENTLE FITNESS

Improve balance, muscle strength, heart health and your range of motion. By practicing functional exercises you can increase your energy to accomplish everyday tasks and improve your life. This class will use light hand weights to build strength as well as chairs to assist with balance and form. Movement and exercises will be tailored to individual needs and fitness levels.

GENTLE YOGA

Mondays & Wednesdays 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

A gentle and accessible movement practice that will use the wall, and other supports to develop a yoga practice that supports other fitness, helps work through physical ailments and limitations, and leaves the body to feel rejuvenated and restored. A combination of gentle movement, core strength development, accessible standing work, and some longer holds will build strength and release tension in the body. Class accommodates all body types, builds strength and flexibility and helps generate vitality and a sense well-being.

CHAIR YOGA

Chair yoga motivates a sedentary population to move. Yoga poses are modified by using a chair (instead of getting down on the floor) and tailored to each participant. Breath is a tool to combat stress, fatigue and pain. The program will increase balance and flexibility as well as strengthen the body and mind.

What can we expect each day?

Our Camp staff plan activities, crafts, group games, playground visits, special guests, swimming, spray park, and other local field trips geared at being active, creative, and having fun. Safety and inclusion is a priority for all our activities.

Where do I drop off my child?

The Camp is located at the Rocky Regional Recreation Centre. Drop off between 8am 9am and pick up between 4pm 5pm. Summer Day Camps run during July and August.

How will information about Camp be communicated?

Prior to the start of each week an email to parents/guardians will be sent detailing activities, local field trips and the week’s schedule, as well as what campers need to bring.

There will be a Jamboree in town June 1st in Rocky (more info to come later). There will also be Jamboree in Ponoka for bantam and peewees June 7th (more info to come). There will be 3 equipment nights before spring camp April 23 and 25 6-8 at the sea can and then again May 14th 6-8 at the sea can. The registration link is on our Facebook page. And we are pleased to say we are once again partnering with Get Balance Athletics for our fourth season of Flag Football.

Our flag Football program will run again this year for kids aged 5-7. Get ready for some football. Starting May 20th they will go on Mondays and Wednesdays (days will be Tuesday and Thursday in the Fall) from 6-7pm. They will be on the small practice field.
