Rev. Allan Boyer,
Congratulations on your pastoral Retirement at Bethel AME,Paterson, New Jersey! Thank you for being a man after God's own heart ( 1 Samuel 16 & 1 Kings 2 ) For being one
of God's chosen (Jeremiah 1:5) Our prayer for you & your family (Numbers 6:24)
REV. ALLAN BOYER BETHEL AME CHURCH OF PATERSON, NJ Theresa: When you were growing up, was there any indication that you would be a pastor? Rev. Allan Boyer: When I traveled with my father, Charles E. Boyer, he was an AME preacher & pastor for 55 years. Many people and pastors would say "You should become a pastor just like your father." Hearing those types of words at a young age actually kept me from ministry. Therefore, I waited on the Lord's calling, before I became a pastor. Theresa: Was there any resistance with becoming a pastor? Rev. Allan Boyer: No, there wasn't any resistance, because it was all in God's plan.
Theresa: Did someone prophesy over your life, where you would be today? Rev. Allan Boyer: I can't confirm it was a prophecy, but I used to like shooting dice when I was a teenager. One day, I went to shoot with the grown men, and they chased me away stating that I needed to be somewhere preaching. The second time, I was still a young man, and I went to Florida with my wife and her family to a funeral. Upon leaving, the gravesite the preacher approached me and he told me that I had the mark. Theresa: Pastor Allan & First Lady Dolores Boyer, how was it growing up in your households? Triumphant Magazine | Page 8 | February 2020
Rev. Allan Boyer: There were 13 children in our household. First Lady Dolores Boyer: I was an only child, but I can't complain because I had a lot of cousins. I was never lonely! Theresa: What are your favorite scriptures? Rev. Allan Boyer: Romans 8:28 & 2 Corinthians 2:14 First Lady Dolores Boyer: Ephesians 5:25 & John 3:16
Theresa: Pastor Boyer, where's the first church you became a pastor? Rev. Allan Boyer: MT. Olive AME, and it was located in Flanders, New Jersey. We started with 5 members, and it grew to approximately 25 to 30 members before I was transferred to Bethel AME in Paterson, New Jersey. How many years have you been a pastor at Bethel AME Church? I've been at Bethel AME Church 15 years, but I've been in ministry 27 years. On Friday, February 28, 2020, I am having my pastoral retirement celebration at the Grand Bethwood.
Theresa: If you had the opportunity to tell your younger self something, what would it be? Rev. Allan Boyer: I would tell myself to be a blessing to others, and I would ask the Lord to bless me to be a blessing. Philippians 3:14 states, "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

Theresa: Do you have children? Rev. Allan Boyer: Yes, we have two sons, Rev. Dr. Charles F. Boyer and he's a pastor at Bethel AME of Woodbury, New Jersey and our second son is David S. Boyer.

Theresa: First Lady Dolores Boyer, did you always know that you would become a first lady? First Lady Dolores Boyer: No, I didn't and I've said before, God knew me, because I was shy and very introverted. Therefore, He had to groom me by training me in different areas that later would become necessary as a first lady. This went to the extent of the gifts that I would need as a first lady. During this time my husband was studying and preparing to go into ministry. The Lord placed me in situations (I called this my wilderness experience) where he trained me. I can recall being in the choir, doing bulletins, and working on various reports for Mt. Olive and Bethel. I led a women's group at St. Thomas AME dealing with prayer. God prepared me for the task He had for me to do later, and I'm so grateful for the training.

Theresa: What are some things that people may not know about the two of you? Pastor Allan Boyer: That we fell in love when we were teenagers. First Lady Boyer refused my first advances, but I knew when I first met her that I wanted her to be my wife. Theresa: Do you have anything in particular that you would like to have mentioned in this month's issue of Triumphant Magazine? First Lady Dolores Boyer: Yes, February 27th, we will be celebrating 55 years of marriage. Theresa: Congratulations on celebrating 55 years of marriage. That is truly phenomenal, and once again, congratulations on your upcoming retirement.
Theresa: If you had an opportunity to pay it forward to another young couple becoming a pastor or first lady, what kind of recommendations would you give them? Rev. Allan Boyer: Preach the Word and Love the People. First Lady Dolores Boyer: As a first lady, be yourself, love the people that God has put in your path, be an encourager, because you might be the only smile they get that day.

Fasting the By: Power Source of God Apostle John Hickman Every assignment, every call of God, every direction from Him starts somewhere. God has specific assignments for your life. But how do you discover them? How will you hear His voice? How will you know His will and purpose for your life, His plans for your future? Whom should you marry and where should you live? What job should you take to support your family? What mission field is calling your name? The answer can be found in the appeal Paul made to the Romans: “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). I’m convinced that we will never walk in the perfect will of God until we seek Him through fasting. When you present your body in this manner, you open yourself up to hear from God. You will prove or discover His good and perfect will for your life. Paul was fasting when God called him and shared the assignment for his life (Acts 9:7-9). Peter was fasting on the rooftop when God gave him a new revelation and called him to take the gospel to the gentiles (Acts 10). Fasting prepares the way for God to give you a fresh revelation, a fresh vision, and a clear purpose. Fasting is a tremendous weapon and a source of power in the life of a believer.

The blessings in my life are directly attributed to the fasting in my life. I’m not the greatest preacher; I don’t have the brilliant mind that others may have, but God said He has no respecter of persons. When you honor and worship God by presenting your body as a living sacrifice through fasting, you too will know His assignments for your life. Satan gets highly disturbed as well as defeated when you decide to become more than a Sunday morning Christian. Have you ever wondered why of all things; Satan tempted Jesus at the end of His fast by provoking Him to turn stones into bread? Jesus had the power to do so, but He came to use His power to serve others, and not Himself. Not only that, he was determined to complete the fast God had called him to finish. Jesus knew that some of the benefits of fasting cannot be released otherwise and so did the devil.
When Jesus returned from the forty day fast, He immediately began to do mighty miracles, (Acts 10:38) “healing all who were oppressed by the devil”. Satan needed to get Jesus focused on His appetite because if he didn’t, he knew that Jesus was going to receive power from God that would change the world. Remember, the enemy’s agenda is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). Do you think the enemy wants you to believe that nothing is impossible for you? He knows he is defeated, but he doesn’t want you to know it or to walk in that realm of God’s power. That is why it is so crucial for him to get you distracted. Don’t allow the enemy in your life to cause you to focus more on your appetite or circumstances than on the promises of God that are released when you employ the powerful weapon of fasting. Start your year with a fast, and see God move in your life. Blessings, Apostle John L. Hickman Mountain of Faith International Ministries, Deltona, FL 32725
