Fraser honors captains, crew By Lucy Chabot Reed Capt. Paul Bickley, skipper of the 53m Benetti M/Y Latitudes, won Charter Captain of the Year last night at the annual Fraser Yachts black-tie dinner. “He treats us like family, and that makes a difference to guests,” Chief Officer Patricia Caswell said. The crew of 13 have been together since the owner bought the yacht a year and a half ago. “Anyone on board picks up on it,” second Stew Nicholle Mackenzie said. “We are a family.” The company’s top charter crews are on the 44m M/Y Four Wishes and the 43m M/Y Harmony III. M/Y Four Wishes joined the Fraser fleet in 2004 with its launch and has

been under the command of Capt. Aaron T. Clarke the entire time. It is the only yacht to win this distinction twice, first in 2008. Clarke was Fraser’s Captain of the Year in 2005. “We have an average crew tenure of 2.4 years,” Clarke said after receiving his award, which he credits to his onboard training program for deck crew. “They show commitment and they are rewarded. I’m more from a commercial background and that’s how it works. My last first mate, who I trained into that position, was with me for six years.” Capt. Robert Wilhelm of M/Y Harmony III was ill and not able to attend the event. Lucy Chabot Reed is editor of Triton Today. Comments are welcome at lucy@ the-triton.com.
