Q. Tell us about a bit about you both and how you met originally?

A. We are the owners of both Pho Ever and She Nails. We live in Erie with our three children and my mom. We met years ago in Vietnam. Ken lived in the US, but was staying in Saigon, Vietnam on a vacation with his aunt (who lived next door to me). At first I didn’t really like Ken, but after Ken’s pursuing and for quite some time we hit it off and ended up moving to the US.

K. For me it was “love at first sight”.

Q. When did your nail salon business, She Nails start:

A. We started She Nails in 2018.

Q. Tell us why you decided to open an addtional business, Pho Ever:

A. The reason why we wanted to open Pho Ever is becasue we saw the opportunity since Erie does not have a Vietnamese restaurant here.

Q. What is your goal for the next year?

A. We want to serve as many people in Erie and beyond. We strive to offer excellent customer service. We took a chance from the bottom of our hearts.We are so lucky and blessed to have such loyal customers. They are like family and friends to us. That’s how we got the idea of the new restaurant by asking opinions and advice from our family and friends. Ken comes from a lineage of relatives that excel in the restaurant business.

Q. What are some of the challenges you faced with both businesses?

K. Both are so totally different businesses. The first challenge was financial. We started the concept of Pho Ever in 2019, during Covid! Everything doubled in budget to build the restaurant. During Covid the nail salon business also took a huge financial hit. Our second major challenge was/is securing staff.

Q. What kept you going and not give up?

A. We kept going due to our belief in faith and karma, if you do the right thing in life , it will all come together.

Q. Tell us about giving back to our local community and non-profits:

K. We support by offering donations to local schools. We plan to give back to the Erie Food Bank and bring food to the Erie’s seniors.

Q. Any last thoughts you’d like to share with our readers?

A. I’d like to dedicate this feature to my grandmother, Tam in Vietnam.

K: I’d like to dedicate this to my wife and business partner, An. An is a super woman. I couldn’t have done this without her.

The Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement 2.0 Act of 2022 (SECURE 2.0) was signed into law on Dec. 29, 2022. This bill is designed to strengthen the retirement savings system by extending and expanding your savings opportunities. Having worked in the health and wellness field for over 25 years, I have watched trends come and go. Some trends are good marketing, and some are good science, let us dive into what’s trending so far in 2024.

Fermented or Probiotic Skin Care:

Using centuries old principles of food fermentation, the process of fermenting skin care ingredients increases the ingredients bioavailability, therefore increasing their efficacy. The process of fermentation breaks down the molecular structure of the ingredients making for easier absorption.

Pro- Aging

Changing the message from “anti-aging” to pro-aging, Gen X’ers are shifting the narrative from the idea that aging has a negative connotation, to the idea that aging is a natural and graceful process to be celebrated. The pro-aging movement focuses on the idea that aging is natural and should be healthy and comfortable with self-care in mind instead of trying to attain unrealistic “anti-aging” goals.

Clean Beauty

While a hot topic and all over the beauty industry, this is an unregulated term or standard and therefore, this is a “buyer beware” claim. The consensus is that “Clean Beauty” products are made without ingredients that are shown to harm human health AND better for the environment. Since this is an unregulated term, and there is no standard or regulation for using it on packaging, the term can be used by any manufacturer as a marketing tool. Research the brand, learn their sourcing of ingredients and practices and make sure they align with your philosophies before buying.

Skin Streaming

This is the concept of using fewer individual products and replacing them with multiple powerful ingredients in a single step.
