Welcome to my journey at The International School of Design, Rubika I specialize in Product Design as well as User Experience Design and believe that design is a process of mastering the art of balancing functionality and aesthetics while creating meaningful experiences.

MY STORY

MUMBAI: My Home and My Heart My story begins in the city that never sleeps; Mumbai. Everything I have learnt since the day I was born was here, from being scolded in school to growing into a confident young adult this was where it all started.

Pune: Tiptoeing Towards The Future From the bustling streets of Bombay to the deafening silence, this city definately had a lot to teach. The change in the atmosphere and the culture gave me room to explore and break through my shell of comfort and taught me how to adapt.

DELHI: My Future and Much More Finally; the city that gave me more than just the ability to explore, it taught me responsibility and inbibed courage. The city that I will forever be greatful for its love.

It makes ideas feel more accessible and communicates concepts in ways that are easier for people to understand. Great designers should understand their end user and think about their needs to make a product that’s intuitive, hyperfunctional, and enriching.

IUVO

Project One IUVO was my very first real-world project in ISD. It gave me the opportunity to understand and empathise with problems that the milkman faces, and create a solution that would aid him as well as respect constraints such as cost, feasibility and usability.

MAKING THE TRANSFERRING OF MILK EASIER AND MORE EFFICIENT FOR THE MILKMAN.

Since the cost of the conister is extremely high, and the milkman may not want to replace the existing ones. I decided to design an accessory that could aid them to reduce the load added on a single user by splitting the load.

Project Two Working in collaboration with the JBL Team was an exhilarating experience, from the genesis of the design brief my team and I were able to execute multiple concepts as well as understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

BRIEF To enhance the experience in a connected home space by designing a new typology of audio devices for JBL.

USER REQUIREMENTS The users are looking for a product that is personalized, bespoke and can stimulate their senses while having an interactive user experience and integrate seamlessly into their home space.

IDEATION Creativity sparks with a sketch; a sketch that transforms into a concept, and finally a product.

JBL VISION The JBL Vision is a Bluetooth Speaker and so much more. It embodies the aspects of upcoming technologies and seamlessly integrates them into your environment transforming any space into an interactive and engaging collaborative experience.

THE PROCESS The project had to be carefully segmented to ensure that the most effective outcome could be achieved in the most efficient manner.

THE BRIEF How can the process of using and interacting with an aroma diffuser be made more interesting?

WHAT IS AN AROMA DIFFUSER? The starting point was to look at existing products currently available in the market.

HOW DOES IT HELP? Aroma Diffusers have a therapeutic effect.

Using them releases serotonin; relieving stress and helping you get a good night of sleep by enhancing the fragrance of the air.

WHAT KINDS OF DIFFUSERS EXIST? The starting point was to look at existing products currently available in the market.

HEAT DIFFUSER

ULTRASONIC

Heat diffusers are used in small to medium spaces and the heat source is used to disperse the essential oils.

The essential oil releases serotonin; relieving stress, anxiety, and fatigue. Ultrasonic diffusers use smaller amounts of essential oil.

NEBULIZER

EVAPORATIVE

This type of diffuser uses the temperature of the room to propel the air. It can be noisy, messy and difficult to clean.

Evaporative diffusers use the air current in the room to diffuse the fragrance.

WHERE DOES THE PROBLEM LIE? To understand what the user needs, it is important to understand the problems they currently face.

WHY THEM? An Aroma Diffuser is more than simply the fragrance that is produced by the oils; it is about the experience you draw from the overall aura of your space and the mood it creates. Making the diffuser a multi-sensorial experience while being bespoke enhances the interaction between the user and their product.

CONCEPT ONE Refining the form of the product through sketches to ensure the inner components of the product have a compact housing.

CONCEPT ONE V2 is an aroma diffuser designed to enhance the experience of using conventional diffusers by accommodating light projections, making the experience multi-sensorial.

V2 is a concept that uses a multicoloured light source to create beautiful projections through the fog that is created by the fragrance oil and water when heated.

To refine the ideation phase I decided to take a step back and de-constructed the components of the traditional heat diffuser.

There are four elements that create the world around us. This became my starting point to weave a story that was more experiential and human than mechanical and cold.

By combining elements from V2 and aero I was able to understand the core functionality and redefine the purpose of the diffusers aesthetic in detail.

The four elements of nature; earth, fire, water and air are what make element unique. It is a blend of minimalism and pure aesthetic that brings serenity to your space. Element is a mood enhancing, therapeutic aroma diffuser.

how does it work?

four elements, four fragrances.

The fragrances are inspired by the four elements in nature, earth, fire, water and air. Earth gives an earthen smell, while the smell of water is emulated by the smell of petrichor.

The fragrance oils have been redesigned to compliment the personality of element. Each fragrance caviar contains 20% fragrance oil and 80% water to strike the perfect balance of oil to water. So now you can enjoy the fragrance without worrying about proportions.

Simply add 10 beads of your selected fragrance and let element do the magic.

closer to nature.

The mood enhancing light projects the four elements of nature that pair well with the fragrances associated with them. To change the colour simply twist the aluminium panel.

To alter the intensity of your fragrance, swipe the capacitive touch aluminium panel. For a serene nights sleep; a mild fragrance beside your bedside works well, when you have guests over; element can be kept on the strong setting to give a diffused fragrance that will leave everyone impressed.

To keep you refreshed and energized during the day and well rested at night; Element has an integrated speaker that creates soothing white noise based on the element you select. From the crackling of firewood to the trickling of rain, four sounds ensure a multi-sensorial experience.

The seamlessly designed induction charger allows you to undock element at any time and use it on the go. The inductive charger doubles as a power bank, so now wherever you go your diffuser is ready to use!

Element draws inspiration from traditional heat diffusers with a contemporary approach. The internal components are hidden for a seamless, unobtrusive looking product that allows you to enjoy its effect instead of worrying about its maintenance.

Project Four

Since most of the work at Samsung Design Delhi was confidential, I decided to apply everything I had learned by creating a project of my own under the mentorship of Prantik Banerjee.

Brief Design a Portable Mobile Bluetooth Speaker for the Samsung Level Series.

Exploratory Sketches Visualizing initial thoughts with quick sketches and doodles.

Visualization To convey my ideas quickly and effectively I learned how to think in three dimensions with a two dimensional software like Photoshop.

Concept Development Refining the form of the product through sketches to ensure the inner components of the product have a compact housing.

Level Box Mini The Level Box Mini aims to make the portable music experience more viable for the young music enthusiast. The anodized speaker mesh and silicone housing provides a minimalist approach that is portable and durable.

Tangible Controls The speaker has a tangible control panel located at the top with an intuitive user experience allowing the user to navigate with ease.

Seamless Connectivity The Level Box Mini remembers your device once it has been paired, so your speaker is ready whenever you are.

Wired Connections The Type C charging port makes it convenient for you to carry only one charger between your Samsung S8 and the Level Box Mini.

Level Box Mini About the Concept The Level Box Mini aims to make the portable music experience more viable for a young music enthusiast. The speaker comes in a variety of vibrant colors with a tangible input touch panel located at the top of the speaker. The anodized speaker mesh and silicone housing makes the speaker a minimal product with an intuitive user experience allowing the user to properly navigate.
