#WeAreTradition

When life is interrupted by a pandemic, unexpected health crisis, financial downturn or loss of a loved one, it may inspire you to re-examine what’s important and how you want to prioritize.

Adversity may inspire you to embrace more than ever that family, health, environment, and connections matter.

Relationships help us get through tough times and forge ahead.

Helen Keller, a trailblazer in history who broke down barriers and paved the way for others famously said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.“

All of us at Tradition wholeheartedly agree, especially if the intentions are real and the purpose is for the greater good.

Without you, there is no Tradition or the enthusiastic employees who are on your side. As you browse through this publication you’ll understand why.

The photos, stories, history and uplifting events you’ll read about showcase how connectedness develops healthier, stronger communities and in tough times, helps heal.

LET’S CONNECT.

Together we can accomplish so much.

A NEW WAY OF LUXURY LIVING SHINES

Minimalism and Scandinavian design seem to get along well. So well that this 3-acre picturesque property in the south metro’s distinguished Reverence neighborhood advocates practicality without sacrificing beauty.

The home draws inspiration—the reason it was featured in the Fall 2022 Parade of HomesSM, as one of five selected Dream HomesSM

The modern farmhouse-inspired architecture was carefully curated with an edge, showcasing steeply pitched gables, metal accents, and a bold, dark exterior with natural wood elements.

In a world of sensory overload, this home delivers calmness.

Indoor-outdoor entertaining was a focus throughout the design, pulling in the natural beauty of the land while seamlessly integrating the exterior living spaces and pool area.

From the private owners’ suite integrated on the main level, to the refined finishes throughout, this home may inspire you to say “magisk” in Swedish. In other words, fantastic.

PLEDGING ALLEGIANCE TO VETERANS IN NEED

NEW CENTER OPENS THANKS TO MANY WHO CARE

You may have heard the saying; “You can’t have a rainbow without a little rain.”

The rain came down in May 2022 at the Grand Opening of a new 10,000 square foot facility dedicated to veterans in need and their families–a celebration intentionally designed to take place the week of Memorial Day.

The new Veterans Resource and Empowerment Center in south Minneapolis is unique. It’s a hub to support the work of Every Third Saturday, a nonprofit organization that distributed clothing and supplies to veterans out of what used to be a packed 30 x 40 square foot ramshackle space.

Now, with a clothing store, classroom, fitness center, patio and coffee shop—all open to veterans and their families to relax and “just be.”

You could call that the rainbow.

This labor of love took big hearts and many hands to complete including: community members, Homes by Tradition, their employees, business partners, and yes—even their industry competitors.

Every Third Saturday (ETS) is a Twin Cities-based nonprofit devoted to serving veterans since 2009. Those who have experienced their mission firsthand understand its power.

ETS not only provides veterans with clothing, hygiene items, support, education, a fitness center, and a network of resources, but also a community and tight-knit family.

With their new building in Minneapolis, a permanent home-away-from-home, the ETS family has only grown because of it.

Whether it be bigger and better operations from a brand new building, or simply delivering blankets out of a van, Every Third Saturday is carrying out their mission—saving and enriching lives every step of the way.

HOPE RISES WITH THE COURAGE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Tradition Companies Founder Tip Enebak dedicates Election Day each year to gather employees, family, friends and business partners together to talk about “good things only.“

He told the captive audience at the 2022 Faith Hope Courage event, “We all have the ability to rise above and make a difference.”

He reserved the podium for some remarkable human luminaries who told their inspiring stories about hitting rock bottom and how they found the fire to get up, move forward and find a new path.

These human luminaries faced crisis that changed their lives forever. Their ability to share their stories, serve one another and forgive one another is an extraordinary gift to teach others and heal.

• Kurt Kalland

• Jake Taylor

• Bill Butters

Canadian and former professional ice hockey goaltender Clint Malarchuk dodged death twice and found a way in his words to, “struggle well.”

• Jack Taggart (virtual update)

Pastor Kurt Kalland was sick and tired of being sick and tired from drugs and alcoholism. Luckily, he faced a turning point he’s grateful for.

Former MN Gopher hockey player and H.S. hockey coach Jake Taylor took a hard and roundabout way to find the true meaning of courage.

Entering his freshman year of college at the University of St. Thomas, Jack Taggart received his 5th cancer diagnosis in 10 years. His perspective on life and living it to the fullest is “well beyond his years.”

Former NHL player Bill Butters faced a downward spiral that flipped upwards thanks to a group of 12-yearold boys.

“This event inspires actions of gratitude, compassion, perseverance and strength while bringing the Tradition community together. Having this event on a day that is marked by division is a valuable reminder to love, respect, and value one another. “

ENEBAK CONSTRUCTION AND ITS EMPLOYEES GIVE BACK

Finding charitable ways to give back seems to be Enebak Construction's guiding force and according to 40-year employee Curt Loken, donating employee time and construction services “is the right thing to do.”

Enebak Construction’s Controller Amy Bothof agrees. “We recognize when aspiring, hard working people run into the need for help,” she says.

It’s no coincidence a family-managed construction company that moves millions of cubic yards of earth each year left Twin Cities individuals and nonprofits “feeling moved” in 2022.

Enebak Construction started with grit and horsepower thanks to Sigurd Enebak’s first project over 118 years ago in Warren, MN.

He inspired projects that generations of the Enebak family can proudly hang their hard hats on including:

- Mall of America

- Interstate 35E roadwork

- Legends Club and TPC golf courses

- Award-winning master planned communities like Spirit of Brandtjen Farm and Cobblestone Lake

These large projects take beastly equipment, ingenuity, best-in-class employees, and fine-tuned problem solving to execute.

Whispers of Hope — Safe haven facility expansion for women

United Heroes League — New home of an outdoor ice rink and future sports complex

SPECIAL FORCES STAY ON COURSE TO COMPLETE A MISSION

spring 2023
EVENT FEATURE 20 |

Tee time at Legends Club in Prior Lake started with anticipation and ended not only with “mission accomplished,” but also a hole-in-one.

The annual United Heroes League Celebrity Camo Classic in June 2022 brought together 36 foursomes, each paired with a celebrity golfer, to raise funds and spirits.

The worthy cause? To keep military kids healthy and active though sports while their parents are deployed serving our nation.

Everyone’s golf game was about what you’d expect, but the unique activity on the course might surprise

you. Black Hawk helicopters, Humvees, friendly snipers, smokescreens and RPGs took over the event to give participants the ultimate military experience.

The fantastic news amidst all the action and camaraderie was the first hole-in-one in the decade old tournament’s history. An enthusiastic event supporter aced a 170-yard, par 3, in one stroke and won a brand new Centurion boat valued at over $250,000.

JOINING FORCES TO TEACH MILITARY KIDS ABOUT THE GAME OF LIFE

In 2008, United Heroes League Founder Shane Hudella was on active duty in Minnesota. Little did he know, while standing in uniform, his life would change thanks to a couple of professional athletes whom he encountered on the street. Those two athletes were hockey players from the Minnesota Wild.

They graciously thanked him for his service and expressed how they wanted their team to do more to give back to military families.

SPORTS TEACH YOU CHARACTER

Overnight, Hudella was inspired by this convergence of athletics and military service, and the idea for United Heroes League was born.

Now, a well-established and nationally known nonprofit, United Heroes League has gifted thousands of military families across the U.S. and Canada with over $25 million in charitable giving to help keep their children healthy and active in sports.

EMPLOYEE EVENT AT THE FAIR ON 4

A FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER

Every once in awhile it’s refreshing to change up your office environment and interact with colleagues one-on-one instead of virtually. Better yet, it’s energizing to change up your role for an afternoon.

In September 2022, over 250 Tradition employees got to do exactly that at The Fair on 4 at the Mall of America in Bloomington. It’s a playground filled with hand-dipped corn dogs, go-cart track and axe-throwing arena.

For fun, bankers, mortgage lenders, builders, wealth managers and administration staff members transformed into lumberjacks, racecar drivers and arcade pros.

The quarterly gathering is a way to celebrate Tradition’s interconnected family of companies and their valuable contributions every day.

Great things happen to families when they play together: They talk, laugh, eat, drink and lighten up. Most importantly, they forge memories and foster deeper connections with each other and the communities they serve.

THE HAT TRICK FABER FAMILY IS

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

The founders of Tradition Mortgage didn’t just create a company; they recruited a remarkable staff that grew along with its vision.

The foundation of Tradition Mortgage was built on “taking care of people” like you and your family. What better way to feel taken care of, other than by real family? Three Faber family members can show you. They know a little bit about teamwork, work ethic, commitment and optimism.

You might say mom Karri Faber is co-captain of their hockey family and currently a key player on the Tradition Mortgage team as a Senior Loan Processor.

Tradition Mortgage President Erik Hendrikson recently announced Karri’s son, Brock’s new role as the company’s brand ambassador and collegiate athlete spokesperson.

He says, “We feel Brock represents the best of local athletic success and strong personal character.”

Brock will be helping Tradition Mortgage spread their message about the importance of supporting the local community through the products they offer and giving back to support civic and charitable causes.

Brock’s sister Paige was also recently recruited to the staff as well. She is a MN Adaptive Player of the Year award winner and a standout player for the MN Wild Special Hockey team.

Her cognitive disability and heart is an inspiration to her older brother Brock who is hockey captain for the University of MN Gophers. He was drafted 45th overall by the LA Kings in the 2020 NHL entry draft and in 2022, traded to the MN Wild.

Sounds like a win for everyone doesn’t it?

CAMPUS HOUSING PROJECTS DELIVER A+ SOLUTION

If you spend time on the University of Minnesota campus, you understand the feeling of elation when you find a good parking spot.

The same goes for housing. Finding a close-to-campus residence in decent condition can be a frustrating, time-consuming hunt.

Thanks to the joint work of Tradition Housing Solutions, owner/investor groups, and Go Gopher Rentals, housing relief is possible.

“We’re excited to work with Tradition to remodel and replace old, inefficient student housing with modern, safe and energy efficient structures in Minneapolis at an affordable price.”

Construction Manager Matt Mazanec enthusiastically explained a student housing “before and after” project completed in August 2022; just in time for the start of the university’s fall semester.

FRIDAY NIGHT ICE RALLIES TOGETHER PLAYERS, COACHES AND FANS

High School hockey players, coaches and fans across Minnesota are accustomed to the Minnesota State High School League regular season schedule.

For players and coaches especially, it’s about playing one game at a time with a passionate eye on the ultimate prize—a chance to play in the State Tournament.

What if for fun, Twin Cities-based hockey loving organizations created a rivalry game-series designed to feel like a state tournament experience?

Tradition and Youth Hockey Hub took this idea and kicked off Friday Night Ice for the 2022-2023 season.

Built in the new Huntersbrook community in Victoria, attendees at the events enjoyed face fainting, a petting zoo, bounce house, rock painting, food trucks, and a special visit from MN Wild’s mascot Nordy.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

In December 2022 the home officially sold, allowing a net proceed donation to the HopeKids Minnesota organization of $350,000.

This donation, along with past years, helps fund a suite at the Xcel Energy Center, allowing HopeKids and their families to experience hundreds of entertaining events in a welcoming and accessible space each year.

THE IMPACT OF FUN INSPIRES HOPE

If you have a child with a life threatening illness or know someone who does, you learn that sometimes hope can be the most powerful medicine there is.

The nonprofit organization HopeKids understands this well—the reason their Minnesota Chapter delivers a much-needed break for families going through a complicated and difficult journey. Together, these children, their parents and families get an opportunity to attend special events simply not possible or available to them otherwise.

What makes it so special? They connect families facing similar situations and support them along their journey.

From professional sporting events and fun runs to concerts and rodeos, these experiences help kids relax and feel the hope of a community behind them.

“Since the HopeKids organization started, we’ve been their champion to help and uplift local families when they need it most. “

A SUCCESSFUL DAY OF GOLF “FORE” VALUED BUSINESS ASSOCIATES TRADITION CUP 2022

July 2022 marked the 22nd Annual Tradition Cup at Legends Club in Prior Lake. The nationally recognized golf course is just one of multiple courses built by Tradition.

The sunny and 77 degree day brought out what golf legends are made of for participants that day—in their own minds anyway. On the course, it didn’t matter how well you played; it mattered how much you meant to Tradition.

To succeed in business and golf, you have to have a strong discipline, hard work ethic and the perseverance to keep going when the game gets hard. Participants felt the acknowledgement.

Generation T is a new initiative Tradition developed in 2022 for young professionals within the company to help each other grow both personally and professionally.

When a company rich in history believes in the philosophy of working for good in the communities they serve, you better believe their young professionals are inspired to experience and learn how its done to carry on the tradition for the next generation.

Taylor Williamson of Tradition Mortgage and one of the founding members of Generation T, explains where the idea came from:

“Watching all of the partners within Tradition interacting with one another in the hallways at work every day inspired us to bring attention to the next generation of leaders and help those individuals grow. “

Williamson says Generation T aims to build productive connections and friendships—like she sees in the hallways—by engaging with leaders, one another, and helpful resources both in and out of the office.

LEARNING. LISTENING. SOCIALIZING.

Generation T meeting agendas are filled with speakers from both external resources and internal, including Tradition Companies Founder Tip Enebak—all offering their insight, experiences and encouragement.

Social events are part of the program too including charitable events, bowling and happy hours at local establishments.

Their newest development, dedicated to open space, is a 133-acre, Twin Cities west metro living destination called Huntersbrook.

Homes are situated amongst mature trees, steep slope wooded areas, wetlands, and open green spaces. Tradition Development has created the perfect balance between secluded privacy and community living with this new community.

MONTANA DUDE RANCH HOSTS “BEST WEEK EVER” FOR HOPEKIDS FAMILIES

WEEK OF HOPE

SEPTEMBER 2022

FLATHEAD LAKE LODGE

When life can be taken away so fast, it’s not the pictures and things you have that mean the most–it’s the memories.

Carter was nine-years-old when he was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. He said, “At some point you reach a breaking point and you just can’t take it anymore. “

All he needed was a break, and he got it.

Tradition gifted three families from the Minnesota Chapter of HopeKids to be part of what’s called the “Week of Hope.” This was the third year this event has been available to HopeKids families and is truly a trip of a lifetime.

Families apply for the opportunity to attend, and HopeKids chapters from all over the country get to select and share the good news with each family that is chosen. These families are selected from each of HopeKids chapters - Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas City, Middle Tennessee, and North Texas.

For one week, families are able to live freely and feel the sun on their faces through horseback riding, water sports, bonfires, bike rides, and so much more.

One family said the Week of Hope experience is like "finding members of your tribe that you’ve never met from all over the U.S. yet—you’re all in it together."

Carter, who was mentioned earlier in this story, said the trip felt amazing and was a nice break to refresh and rebuild his mindset. That’s what the Week of Hope is all about.

FOR RENT: YOUR NEW HOME AWAITS

More space. More privacy. More lifestyle. These may not sound like the attributes of a typical rental property, but if you ask RT Residential what they've been up to, they can tell you those attributes are achievable—and they will build it.

CULTIVATING HOPE AND GROWING EMOTIONAL SPACE

Thanks to a peaceful farm setting in southern Minnesota and the open arms of a loving community of Christian women, the nonprofit Whispers of Hope is able to accomplish its labor of love by providing counseling, rest and emotional healing at no cost to women who may be struggling.

In 2022, as the need to serve more women grew, so did the need for more space

Together, RT Residential and their valued partners donated labor, materials, and creative ideas to build a new structure called the “Chalet.”

A QUIET, ENERGY-EFFICIENT, CONCRETE PROTOTYPE HOUSE

The front half of the house for clients includes:

• MAIN FLOOR: A bedroom, bathroom, laundry, and gathering room

• UPPER LEVEL: Two large bedrooms and gathering area

The back half of the house was designed for the caretaker. It includes a separate entrance with a bedroom, bathroom and sitting area. Both areas of the house have a large shared kitchen to afford privacy for the clients, as well as connection with the caretaker.

EMPOWERING WOMEN TO TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES

Connie Olson and Tammy Metcalf-Filzen, co-founders of the women's ministry Whispers of Hope, agree that they don’t have much in common. But they have always been united by their shared love for one book series: “The Secrets of Heathersleigh Hall.”

The series tells the story of a struggling young woman whose life is transformed by her stay at a chalet in Switzerland, where a group of nurturing women direct her on a path to healing.

It is no coincidence that Connie and Tammy dubbed Whispers of Hope’s brand new structure the “Chalet”-inspired by their favorite book.

Much like in their favorite book, Whispers of Hope aims to transform the lives of women for the better.

To achieve this, they offer intensive one-on-one counseling sessions with Connie, peaceful, worry-free retreat weekends, and an opportunity to live well in community with others. Through the open arms of a loving community of Christian women, Whispers of Hope offers support to women as young as 18, all the way up to 80+.

WHEN THE PUCK DROPS BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE

We can all agree with The Hendrickson Foundation that hockey changes lives. But, you may not realize just how much until you learn about this nonprofit’s incredible work.

The Hendrickson Foundation seeks to enrich the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families through the sport of hockey, which—as many of their talented players have proven—can be played by everyone. The foundation includes five different programs for play:

The MN Wild Blind Hockey - for those with vision impairment.

The MN Wild Special Program - for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The MN Sled Hockey Association - for those with physical disabilities.

The MN Wild Warriors Program - for U.S. Military veterans with disabilities.

The MN Wild Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program was recently launched and is the first of its kind in the country.

The Minnesota programs have grown to include over 40 diversified hockey teams with over 850 athletes.

At the foundation's annual hockey festival in June, these teams come together alongside 80 other diversified hockey teams from across the country, representing 29 states, to celebrate their hard work and play the sport they love in the company of family, friends, and some of their favorite players from the Minnesota Wild.

FINDING STRENGTH IN NUMBERS 2+2=6

Tradition’s Founder Tip Enebak has been working on solving a math formula throughout his career: How do you make 2+2=6?

In other words, how do you make the whole equal more than the sum of its parts.

Throughout the years, the Tradition network has been introduced to a variety of nonprofits, whose missions reflect Tradition’s values. These

organizations have a common theme- helping in sectors affecting children, veterans, and mental health. Now, Tip has encouraged them to open up communication with each other to amplify how they can help those whom they are serving. This allows each organization to do more, and do it better by tapping into other resources and helping each other serve more people. A step in the right direction to making 2+2=6.

Tip and the Force For Good are beyond grateful for the support received from all the Tradition entities and their partners who have come alongside them in their efforts.
