Tommy Schuman Foundation Donates an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to Trinity Services
Last September, the Tommy Schuman Foundation donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to Trinity Services. In 2012, Lynn and Dan Schuman created the Tommy Schuman Foundation in honor of their late son, Tommy, who died from apparent sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS) just three months prior to his graduation from Lincoln-Way Central High School. SADS is when someone dies suddently and unexpectedly from cardiac arrest, but the cause cannot be determined.
“Tommy was an exceptional student and quite an athlete,” said his mother, Lynn Schuman. “Tommy was captain of the golf and baseball teams, and was also involved in hockey. He especially enjoyed working with special needs students in gym class.” Since that time, the Foundation has worked hard to raise awareness for SADS through annual fundraisers hosted by Lincoln-Way Central’s golf program, speaking engagements, as well as donations to support SADS research at Mayo Clinic.
