Week ending 15 June 2018 Dear Parents, The Trinity Parent Association (TPA) do a fantastic amount for our school community. Nearly everyone in or around Trinity will already have benefitted in some way from their work, whether at the ball, quiz or proms, through the lost property system, through the work of the class reps, or in their fundraising for charity and for the school. They raise over £10,000 for their chosen charity each year, and thousands more for our Malawi partnership. As one or two of them will stepping down in the next six months, the TPA Committee are looking for parents who would be interested in joining them. In particular we will be looking for a new Chair and Treasurer during next academic year. If you are interested, I warmly invite you to find out more at an informal breakfast on the 4 July at 8:30am at school. Current members of the TPA and I will be there to tell you about the team and answer any questions you may have. The TPA are a very energetic and rewarding group to work with, and you will certainly help shape both events and enduring friendships for yourself and others by being involved. Please let Karen Walsh know if you would like to come at ksw@trinity.croydon.sch.uk I have one very sad piece of news to share: Mrs Maureen Dixon who ran our Community and Charity work passed away last week. She was determined to work at the school for as long as she was able, right up until this month, and she leaves a very important legacy of enabling students to connect with and serve our wider community. Our Mufti day for Charity on 22nd June will be dedicated to the charities that she was particularly passionate about: Cancer Research, St Christopher’s Hospice and neighbourhood care teams. Junior Mathematics Olympiad This year, two boys did exceptionally well in the UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge, qualifying for the prestigious Junior Mathematics Olympiad. Finlay Evans (Junior Form) and Zain Lam (1P) sat the two hour long exam-style paper which covered short, but thought-provoking questions and included extended questions that pressed them to focus on mathematical reasoning. It is worth mentioning that qualifying for the Olympiad puts Finlay and Zain in the top 1200 in the country for their age range (Juniors through to 2nd form). We look forward to seeing how they got on when the results are published later in July!
