I

cannot adequately express the honor I have of being Trinity’s Board President, particularly in this 40th Anniversary year. I have had the pleasure of being associated with this school as a parent since 1988. My children grew up in Trinity and were launched into college and adulthood as prepared as any child could be for what was to come. Credit for that goes to the many teachers at Trinity (many of whom have been here for much of those 40 years).

When I look back at the school’s 40 years, I am amazed by, and grateful for, the dedication and hard work of all of the people, including faculty, staff, administration, board and parents, that came before us to start and shepherd this institution into what it is today. In that time, we have grown to 900 students and have outstanding facilities. Our students do well in college.

But, Trinity is far more than its past. Trinity is about providing the highest quality Christian education and that means that we are in the business of providing for the future. We just received the results of our accreditation review and, proudly, we received glowing reviews. Today, Trinity is not only planning for the future but is implementing programs to make our students more competitive in college in this ever changing world in which they find themselves.

This year we are in the beginning phases of a 1:1 computer lap top program for our students. The program, sponsored by Apple computer, will be the first such program in Montgomery.

This will take some time to bring fully on line but has met with a great deal of excitement among our teachers. This important tool can add excitement to the learning environment and accelerate the learning process. You will hear more about this in the coming months.

As you are all aware, our construction program is well underway. The new media center is complete and has been a hit with our students, faculty and parents. It is exciting to come to the school and see this center full of students enjoying the learning experience. The lower school addition has commenced and is on schedule for completion before the beginning of the next school year. This addition will allow Trinity to reduce classroom size in the lower school and create a more productive learning environment.

We are also instituting a new math curriculum in the Kindergarten with an aim to continue to strengthen this program from the ground up. Head Master, Bob Neu, the faculty and the Board are implementing curriculum and schedule changes that will allow students the option of taking more challenging courses and schedule. Additionally, enhancements to the arts program are being considered.

Trinity has opened a “development” office and many of you have received letters and calls about the opportunity to be a part of the Trinity team that pushes our program to an even higher plane by giving to the annual fund. The first efforts have been rewarding and efforts continue. This fund, as it grows in the future, will help provide need based scholarships, classroom and program enhancements and assist with our goals in many other ways.

The administration, faculty and Board are working hard to build on the traditions of the last 40 years by using the tools of the future. For Trinity to meet its mission in a new age, Trinity must be prepared as technology and demands of the work force and world change. This cannot be done solely by the administration and faculty. It will actually require that we create a new culture for Trinity. That will be a culture of participation, dedication and support. I challenge the parents and alumni to get on board. Trinity needs each of you to become active with the school. Educate yourself as to what is going on at Trinity and the opportunities that are presented. Let your friends, neighbors and co-workers know what Trinity has to offer and suggest that they give Trinity a tour. And participate in the Trinity Annual Campaign to help give Trinity the resources to address Trinity’s future and our students’ future. Trinity is the best place to receive a first class Christian education. Trinity is proud to proclaim that it provides a Christian education. Lets all embrace that mission.

This year marks Trinity’s 40th year of existence. 40 Years!!! We have been at this Christian education experience for 40 years. That really is a long time. Well, on the one hand it is. I must admit there definitely was a time when I believed 40 years of anything was almost ancient.

However, I never thought I would say it, while 40 is somewhat seasoned, I don’t think it is particularly all that old any longer.

A lot has changed in 40 years, but so much remains constant. Trinity continues to anchor itself in Jesus Christ and God’s word. It always will. In fact, we are looking for ways to make this component of the school even stronger. It is the heartbeat of who we are. After all, the first words of the mission statement are…To Glorify God. What else needs to be said?

One of the ways a school tracks their changes is in its facilities. Have you seen the Media Center lately? If not, then by all means stop by and visit. We are so thankful for Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood and their design, and for Russell Construction’s handiwork. A lot of prayer and thought went into the construction of this space. It truly is beautiful. Everyone is so excited. We pride ourselves on being a K-12 school and you can see this aspect of our school alive and well in this newly renovated space.

Additionally, as we look toward the future, our new Media Center will also

play a vital role as we prepare our students for their future. All students need to learn responsibility and accountability in very real ways. The Media center is designed for students to be responsible young adults who take their studies seriously. We believe if we treat them like young adults they will act like young adults. It is meant to be similar to the collegiate atmosphere. With information coming at us at such a rapid pace, today’s students need to learn the art of filtering data properly. The information is at their fingertips, so that is no longer the issue. Now they need to be as wise as serpents in discerning truth from falsehood.

Finally, because of the technological changes in our world, the work place as well as the educational world is changing. We consciously chose to build watering holes, or places of collaboration, into the new Media Center. Working together in small teams or groups is where life is headed.

Trinity is definitely still going and growing! As we celebrate 40 years of God’s goodness and blessing, I hope you will join us as much as your schedule permits. Did You Know???? n The Trinity "Wildcat Pride" Marching Band competed in three contests around the state: the Huntingdon Marching Invitational in Montgomery, the Southeastern United States Marching Festival in Troy, and the Southern Showcase Invitational in Dothan. At the Huntingdon Marching Invitational the Band earned straight Superior ratings, the highest possible; were awarded Best in Class Band, Color Guard, and Percussion; and were awarded the Most Entertaining Band out of all the bands at the contest. They also received straight Superior ratings in both the Troy and the Dothan contests. In total, the Trinity "Wildcat Pride" Marching Band earned 18 Superior ratings, 3 Beat in Class awards, and 1 overall Best in Show award. n In the area of Forensics, Turner Griffin, a first-time debater, and Stone Phillips finished 7th in Public Forum Debate at Ole Miss. At the STJ Tournament, Whitney Lott finished 2nd in Extemporaneous speaking, Jackson Britton finished 2nd in Congressional Debate and Stone Phillips 3rd in Congressional Debate. Caroline Stewart finished 5th overall in Prose Interpretation (1st time in this event) and Impromptu at Samford, and Thomason Bryan finished 6th in Prose Interpretation (her 1st time in this event) at Samford. n The Morning Message, featuring a devotional, scripture, birthdays and the lunch menu, is being delivered daily via Smartboard into our lower school classrooms by our Fifth Grade Students. n Kindergarten has a new Math Curriculum - Envision 2011 – from Pearson/Scott-Foreman, which is based on the use of hands on manipulatives and our new Kindergarten Smartboard! n Mrs. Henderson, our LS science lab teacher, in conjunction with Sage

Dining has provided a vegetable garden in lower school! The students in K-5 helped prepare the raised beds outside our science lab area. Everything has been planted now, and the students will observe and chart the growth. Students and teachers are hoping for a bountiful harvest that can be used by Sage Dining and enjoyed by all for lunch! n The lower school is utilizing informal and formal assessment to inform reading instruction— creating differentiated instruction to meet academic needs within the smaller classroom size. n Every teacher in the middle school hosts an active blog or

wiki, complete with homework assignments, lesson plans and, in some cases, full Power Point presentations. In 2008, no middle school teachers at Trinity were producing such material. n The Middle school Student Council holds membership in the National Association of Students Councils and is currently working toward certification as a National Student Council of Distinction. n Middle school Student Council hopefuls must meet strict criteria in order to run for office. Once they are qualified, they must campaign and must present a pre-approved speech before all of their peers and teachers on stage in Willett Hall.

Trinity Receives Dual Accreditation First impressions set the tone, but face–to-face time tells the real story. This held true for the October visit of the SAIS-SACS Visiting Accreditation Team. “As pleasant as the recent (and emerging) physical plant enhancements are, it is clear that while Trinity takes pride in its facilities, they are most interested in families.”

Trinity’s two-year accreditation pursuit, involving participation from the entire faculty/staff and Board, as well as several hundred students, alumni and parents, has come to an end. We are pleased to announce the Visiting Accreditation Team unanimously recommended Trinity Presbyterian School for SAIS-SACS dual accreditation.

After receiving Trinity’s 2008-2010 Self-Study in September, a fivemember accreditation review team, consisting of educators from Nashville, Macon, and Atlanta, arrived in early October. They spent three days interviewing students, faculty, parents, board members, and alumni in addition to visiting classrooms and an informal dinner with the Trinity Board. Designed as a peer review, their visit proved beneficial to all involved.

In November, Trinity received the accreditation report that listed both achievements and opportunities. Some commendations include a nurturing school culture, strong leadership, an open, welcoming partnership with Trinity families, and the emerging technology initiative. Also noted were opportunities to develop over the next several years some of which include communication efforts, curriculum mapping, diversity enhancement, funding, and middle school enhancement.

Thank you to all who completed surveys, provided snacks, helped with arrangements and participated in interviews. Trinity family, we appreciate all you have done for the past 40 years and count on your help as Trinity continues to strive to be a premier independent Christian school.

H

ow important can three words be? Your spouse, your children and other loved ones can tell you how important it is to hear “I love you.” Friends and family members who are far away need to hear “I miss you.” Employees are encouraged with “job well done.” My wife loves to hear “you’re right, dear!” Powerful messages are often delivered with very few words.

Trinity Presbyterian School’s mission statement contains thirty-three words, but the first three are critical to remember: “to glorify God.” This year, I have spoken with faculty, students and parents about the major difference between Trinity and other schools. Most schools share the desire to prepare students for college and to produce graduates who are caring and giving. Some even develop extensive character education and service learning programs that challenge students to develop a strong moral compass. We choose to place our focus on doing what God wants us to do at TPS. You can find a copy of Trinity’s mission statement in each classroom, and you will see it on the front page of our website. Most of our teachers and students cannot recite the entire statement, but more and more of them are able to tell you what the first three words are and the message behind the other thirty words.

Here is the entire mission statement: “To glorify God by providing for students the highest quality college-preparatory education, training them in the Biblical world and life view, thus enabling them to serve God in spirit, mind and body.”

We will continue to talk about our mission in faculty and staff meetings, and we will continue to seek to fulfill each part of it. Thank you for partnering with us as we seek to honor God in every classroom and on every stage and field.

Congratulations to Trinity Senior Shea Summerlin – the 2010 Montgomery County Junior Miss! Shea is the daughter of Larry and Sandra Summerlin. She is the president of Trinity’s Wildcat Girls and has attended Trinity since kindergarten. She will represent Montgomery County at the Alabama Junior Miss Program in January. Several seniors competed and represented Trinity in Montgomery County's Junior Miss Program--Shelby Davis, Emily Bethea, Anna Webb, Lyndsay Ewing and Whitney Lott. Emily Bethea won the Poise & Expression and the Fitness portion, and Whitney Lott and Lyndsay Ewing placed in the top 10.

All 140 members of the Junior and Senior class performed community service on Tuesday, October 12th at 15 different sites around Montgomery. Some of their favorites included the Children’s Center, Salvation Army, Common Ground and Habitat for Humanity. The Senior class also worked at Camp Chandler on Wednesday, October 13th. Juniors and Seniors continue to serve others throughout the year giving over 500 volunteer hours to various charities in the River Region.

CONGRATULATIONS 2011 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SEMIFINALIST Trinity senior Ben Smith has been named a Semifinalist in the 56th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Ben was among more than 1.5 million juniors who entered the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

This served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of United States high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. Ben is the son of Donna and David Smith.

Middle School Matters Kerry Palmer, Middle School Principal The first semester in our middle school division here at Trinity has indeed been a busy one! Teachers and students have been actively engaged in the process of discovering new things each and every day, and we have augmented our daily schoolwork with some exciting programs and activities.

Character and social development are very important components of a healthy middle school program. Our teachers and coaches work hard to assist students in developing Christ-like character traits that will serve them well in the future, and will help distinguish them as Christians in a world that is becoming increasingly hostile to our faith.

An important part of this endeavor is the inclusion of our “Pyramid of Success” character education program. Based upon the work of legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden, our program is designed to teach students how to apply several skills that lead to success both on and off the athletic field, and in and out of the classroom. Each week, we have studied a different “block” in our pyramid, adding to the ones previously studied by constructing the pyramid block-by-block in our classrooms each week. The result is a powerful visual reminder of the traits we are studying. Additionally, we begin each week with a devotional on the topic for that week, and wrap up our Fridays with an entertaining video produced by our students. Teachers, parents, and students all seem to be pleased with the entire process.

The Trinity Middle School Division once again elected a slate of student council officers and representatives for this school year. Students who are interested in serving must meet strict qualifying criteria, and must campaign and present a speech before their peers during a lunch assembly. Once selected, the student council serves as an advisory board to the principal, and studies leadership traits throughout the school year.

Our monthly “Lunch with Leaders” luncheons allow our students to rub elbows with some of the most prominent leaders in the River Region.

Students have had the opportunity to meet and lunch with Supreme Court justices, mayors, city council persons, pastors, and even the youth governor of Alabama. Through these events, our students are learning the importance of service and leadership, and that they can truly make a difference if they simply put forth the effort.

Add to all of this our annual trips to Camp Cosby and Washington, D. C., and you have a memorable, well-rounded educational experience, layered with prayer and a desire to mold young champions for Christ. Our faculty members demonstrate love for our students as they seek to live out the mission of Trinity School each day. Please pray for us as we continue with these life-altering endeavors.

Middle School students enjoy getting into the spirit of things as Trinity celebrates 40 years of educational excellence in Montgomery.

Students taking Ms. McLemore’s 7th grade civics class were treated to a field trip to some of the governmental buildings we have here in Montgomery. Students visited the State Capitol, heard a presentation by Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb, and conducted mock legislative sessions in the House and Senate chambers in the State House. They also had their picture made with Governor Riley. Gordon Stone, mayor of Pike Road, rounded out the day with a tour of the new Pike Road Town Hall.

For the first time, Trinity Middle School students learned about the legislative process through a full-scale Congress Day held at the school. Upper School students assisted as various legislative groups met to introduce and debate laws. Students were either assigned to the House of Representatives or the Senate at either the national or state level, with our 6th grade students learning about local government in the form of a city council and county commission.

Students also heard from Trinity Senior, and Alabama Youth Governor Brannen McMahan on the importance of involvement in government.

A Trinity tradition for more than 20 years, our 6th grade students enjoyed another few days at beautiful Camp Cosby in north Alabama. In addition to the science curriculum associated with Ms. Kirtland’s class, students were led in chapel services conducted

by Ahna Baggett. The result was a wonderful bonding time for all involved.

From the Lower School Principal, Tami Shelley Greetings from Trinity Lower School!

Ecclesiastes 3:11 – He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

The above verse was chosen by our seniors for the 2010-2011 school year. This scripture sums up lower school this year! We began the year with the movement of the playground as a first step to the new lower school addition that will be open in August of 2011. Our students and teachers demonstrated great patience with this project. It required us to relinquish use of this outdoor area for a month! Our building foreman kept reassuring us that it would be better than ever before! Lower School used this as an object lesson in our first chapel this year based on the verse from Ecclesiastes. Our construction foreman encouraged us to be patient and wait; and just like our lives, it would be made beautiful in time.

The playground was made beautiful in time with hard work, patience, and perseverance!

Following the playground move, there was a ground breaking on Friday, September 24, 2010 for the new lower school addition. It was an exciting day! The support for this new state of the art learning facility demonstrates the deep commitment to the past, present, and future mission of Trinity. This building will be a beautiful two story addition to our campus. The top level will house a state of the art library, a computer research instructional area, and an art studio instructional 10 Trinity Traditions

area. The bottom level will provide four additional classrooms that will enable a continued commitment to lowering class size in order to provide differentiated instruction for each student. In keeping with recent technological advancements within our school, the new addition will have wireless internet access

for use with maclabs, ipads, and smartboards. As we patiently watch the construction process, we are reminded that the lives we touch at Trinity are under construction as well. This is truly an exciting time in the life of Trinity School.

Fa c u lt y i n F o c u s Trinity's teachers are undoubtedly our best asset. While our teachers have the right credentials, their most outstanding quality is how much they willingly give to students in and out of the classroom. They spend countless hours teaching in an effort to get students to understand the material. This edition of Traditions features two outstanding Trinity teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Teaching third grade this year is Mrs. Jennifer Handey. While Jennifer has only been at Trinity for a few years, her impact has already been felt all across the Lower school. Jennifer is incredibly innovative in her approach to teaching and students leave her class every day wanting to learn more. Mrs. Elisa Bowden has been with Trinity for a few more years, 35 to be exact, and has established herself as a lead teacher in the Middle school. Mrs. Bowden is an anchor for the Middle school and not only teaches her own students, but mentors other teachers regularly. The Middle school could not be what it is if it were not for Mrs. Bowden. We had the opportunity to ask both Mrs. Handey and Mrs. Bowden about their lives.

Jennifer Handey 1. Tell us some about your childhood such as where you grew up, where you went to school, etc.

I grew up right here in Montgomery! My mom taught at my elementary school and my dad taught and was the head coach at my junior high school. I graduated high school from Lee where I had the honor of being taught by Mrs. Pirtle and Coach Tuley.

2. What is one unique aspect about you that many people do not know?

I love water sports! I learned to water ski on my fifth birthday and loved it. My first wakeboard was a wedding gift from my husband. Before my boys were born I spent countless hours wakeboarding with my family. Now I get even more enjoyment watching my boys behind the boat and cheering them on!

3. Why did you decide to get into education?

I felt a true calling to teach at a young age. I can remember sitting in class as early as elementary school and studying my teachers' actions. One of my favorite things to do growing up was to discuss child development and educational philosophy with my mother. In fact, we still do it today. I have never grown tired of learning about children and how they learn.

4. Why do you love teaching? What is the best factor about teaching at Trinity?

I love getting to be a part of the lives of so many of God's precious children and seeing their unique gifts. I have the privilege and thrill of studying my students and learning what motivates them, what makes them proud, and hopefully helping them see themselves as a part of God's perfect plan.

Trinity's growth over the last few years has been dramatic.

It would be be too limiting for me to claim technology, lowered class sizes, professional development opportunities, new facilities, or Sage dining as the single best factor of

teaching at Trinity. The fact is

same. That is the best part of teaching at Trinity – the expectation and freedom the teachers, students, parents, and administration have to be better.

Elisa Bowden 1. Tell us some about your childhood such as where you grew up, where you went to school, etc.

I was born and raised in Montgomery and am the youngest of three daughters. I attended Cloverdale School from 1st-9th grades then went to Jeff Davis High School. From there I attended Auburn University and graduated spring of 1976. I began teaching at Trinity the following fall. I received my masters’ degree from Auburn University in 1981.

2. What is one unique aspect about you that many people do not know?

I guess the only thing that is somewhat unique to me is that I can ride a unicycle (or used to ride a unicycle - the last time I rode one was to prove to the current 11th graders that I could do it!!!). When I was about 11 or 12 years old, my dad randomly brought one home and said he thought I could learn to ride it and I did! As a kid I always liked things like stilts, pogo sticks, etc. as well as any sport. All sports came very naturally to me but at that time girls’ athletics were not established as they are now. During that time in Montgomery, there was a sports program in junior high through the parks and recreation department, so I played organized sports all through junior high but that ended in high school. That's when I really concentrated on tennis - since you didn't have to have a team to compete!

3. Why did you decide to get into education?

When I entered 7th grade, I was in a physical education class for the first time. (In earlier grades we only had "recess" and not physical education.) It was at that time that I knew that being a physical education teacher was what I wanted to do. I never wavered. When I entered Auburn University, I declared health and physical education as my major and never looked back. The coaching aspect of it didn't really enter the picture until later when I was hired at Trinity to teach science, physical education and coach the girls’ teams. I used to think I loved

teaching physical education and coaching because of my love for all kinds of sports, but I now realize that coaching was the avenue into education - my real love is working with young people. As time moved on and my family needs changed, I became a classroom teacher and now teach 7th grade Old Testament and 8th grade Pre Algebra. I love teaching and working with young people, whether in the classroom or on the courts.

4. Why do you love teaching? What is the best factor about teaching at Trinity?

I truly feel that God has given me a calling for teaching. As I said earlier, I have known what I wanted to do since I was about 12 years old. I didn't realize it until later but I am in a family of teachers - including a sister, aunts, several cousins, and a nephew. One of my daughters is a year away from graduating in education. I really love what I do and have loved being at Trinity.

Although I have nothing to compare (since I have only taught at Trinity), there is just nowhere else I would rather be. At Trinity, I have grown so much in my Christian faith, due to the love and support of so many people. I was very young when I was hired and many individuals - coworkers, parents, students, administrators, board members - contributed to my growth. I used to tease Mr. Willett that I had given him many opportunities to fire me. I'll always believe that even when making mistakes, he felt that my heart was in the right place. I was willing to make corrections and acknowledge my mistakes along the way. Early on it seemed as if I would make at least one big blunder a year. But one thing was for sure - I didn't make the same mistake twice!!

Trinity is a special place. I have grown so much by being in a place where God comes first.

Trinity is not perfect, but I have always felt our administrators and Board of Directors seek God's guidance in every aspect of the school. No, I have not always agreed with every decision. However, I trust our leaders and know that their decisions are based on a lot of prayer, research, and thought when making decisions that will affect the entire Trinity family. I am truly blessed to be at Trinity and hope to continue teaching here many years to come.

Ribbon Cutting/Ground-breaking

n Friday, September 24th, Trinity held Ribbon Cutting and Ground-breaking Ceremonies for the new Media Center and Lower School building. A great crowd of parents, alumni, teachers, former teachers and friends of Trinity joined the celebration.

After launching its “Celebrating a Legacy of Learning” capital campaign in the fall of 2009, Trinity surpassed its original campaign goal of $2 million and ultimately raised $2.2 million due to the generosity of over 420 donors! In early summer Trinity began phase one of construction: renovating the library into a state-of-the-art media center where the latest technology (Apple carts with the Macbooks, a portable SmartBoard and wireless internet) will be implemented and used by students and teachers alike. The facility offers the entire Trinity family a wide variety of diverse resources and is equipped with state-of-the-art information technology tools.”

New construction has now begun on the 10,000 square foot Lower School addition which will include a new K-5 media center and Art room as well as four additional classrooms in an effort to continue smaller class size. Completion is scheduled for fall 2011.

Alumni Updates / FALL 2010 1975 Slater B. Lowry – Slater is a doctor in Columbus, MS. He is married to Robin and they have three children, Tyler (17), Dallas (14) and Victoria (12).

1977 Diedre Nicholson Lamb –Diedre lives in Springfield, VA. She has two children Nick (13) and Josh (10).

1978 Debi Mettey Mattiford – Debi went to Berry College and recently received her MBA from Kennesaw State University. She lives in Marietta, GA with her husband Rich and their son, Chip who is 14. Debi works for the Georgia Transmission Corporation.

1980 Bea Bear Norris – Bea lives in Montgomery where she is an ER Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). She went to AUM and received her BSN and UAB for her MSN. Bea is married to Charles W. Norris, Jr. and has one son Charles W. Norris III who is five years old.

1981 Lisa J. Long – Lisa lives in Boca Raton, FL. She graduated from Barry University and has a Masters in Adult Education.

1984 Camille Bryan Kennedy – Camille lives in Montgomery with her husband Thomas Kennedy.

1985 Loree McDonald Aronov – Loree lives in Montgomery and is married to Owen William Aronov. Loree attended Auburn University and is now a stay-at-home mom to Josephine (Josie) Ilyssa Aronov who is five years old and Aaron Chandler Aronov who is two years old. Loree spends her free time playing tennis and traveling.

John Nichols – John is an attorney in Marietta, GA. He graduated from Georgia Tech and received his Law Degree from The University of Georgia. John is married to Kelly and they have a daughter named Lucy.

1990 Nina Byrne Cribbs – Nina lives in Tucson, AZ with her husband Henry Brown Cribbs III. Amy Benck Quinn – Amy lives in Lexington, SC with her husband Rick Quinn and their children Caroline (6) and Trace (1).

Paige Luckie Shultz – Paige lives in Spanish Fort, AL where she is in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Division. Paige is married to Roger Schultz and has one son, Ivan who is eight years old.

Paige attended Samford University where she graduated with a MS in Environmental Management in 1995.

1991 Stacy Anderson Nunn Chew – Stacy graduated from The University of Alabama in 1995 and attended graduate school at UAB. She currently lives in Birmingham with her husband, David L. Chew, Jr. and their children David Lanier Chew III (Lanier) who is four years old and Anderson Laney Chew (Ann Laney) who is 11 months old. Stacy is the Director of Financial Services of Brookdale Place University Park.

Tammy Summerrow Allen Upchurch – Tammy lives in Trussville, AL with her husband Jody Upchurch and their children Wesley (9) and Judson (5).

1994 Cary Phillips Crowe – Carri graduated from Auburn in 1998 and from UAB School of Medicine in 2003. She is an OB-GYN in Practice with “Henderson and Walton” at St. Vincents Hospital in Birmingham.

She and her husband, James Ellis Crowe, Jr. have a daughter Anna Grayson (four years old) and a baby boy James Ellis, III (eight months old).

Ben Espy – Ben lives in Montgomery where he is an attorney with Melton, Espy, Williams. He attended The University of Alabama and went to law school at The University of Alabama School of Law. He is married to Cameron Espy and they have a three year old daughter, Lulu.

Elliot Patterson Williams – Elliot attended Auburn University and now lives in Birmingham. She has been married to Chris Williams for nine years and she is primarily a stayat-home mom to their son Wyatt who is five years old and daughter, Bradford, who is two years old. Elliot does freelance advertising, marketing and public relations for various organizations in Birmingham.

Erin Patterson Joye – Erin lives in Montgomery where she is a stay-athome mom to Elijah Brooks Joye who is two years old. She is married to Jay Joye. Erin has lived in South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee where she sang with the Nashville Symphony and Charlotte Symphony. Erin’s husband is the Pastor of Family Ministries at Young Meadows Presbyterian Church.

1995 Lulu Crum Westbrook – Lulu lives in Deatsville, AL with her husband Garner Westbrook. They have twin boys Eli and Ed who are 1 year old.

Kristi Lynn Hughlett – Kristi graduated from Mercer University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and she received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from UCF. She is married to Ben Hughlett and they live in Altamonte Springs, FL.

Leslie Bunn Warren – Leslie is a Paralegal in Wetumpka, AL. She is married to Erik Warren and has a daughter, Hanna Bunn who is seven years old. Leslie has worked for the State of Alabama since 1995. For the last seven years, she has worked at the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Legal Bureau assisting the Chief Counsel.

1996 Shannon Baxter, Jr. – Shannon lives in Columbus, GA where he is the Youth Director at St. Mark United Methodist Church. He is married to Aimee Baxter and they have two children, Grantham (5) and Isabel (8 months).

1997 Gina Segrest Schroll – Gina is married to Brian Schroll and they live in Montgomery. They have three children Lilly Elizabeth (7), Matthew Sidney (4) and John Allen (2). Lilly is in the second grade at Trinity.

1998 Clark Worrell – Clark lives in Birmingham, AL where he is the Special Assets Officer for Regions Bank. Clark married his wife Elizabeth in November of 2009.

2000 Martha Phillips George – Martha graduated from UAB School of Medicine in 2008 and is a 3rd year resident in Orthopedics at UAB. At the completion of her residency, she plans to enter a Sports Medicine fellowship. She is married to Stephen George who is the Southeastern Territory Sales Manager for Cemex International, the largest cement company in the world.

2001 Chris DePalma – Chris lives in Atlanta, Georgia and is married to Allison DePalma. He is a Medical Software Engineer with McKesson Corporation. He is also interested in IT Security, Technology and Great Danes.

Whit Welch – Whit graduated from Auburn University in 2007 and married Christie McCormack in July 2008. They had their first child in April 2010. Whit is a student at UAB School of Dentistry.

Caroline Brown – Caroline lives in Nashville, Tennessee where she is a Clinical Trial Specialist in Gastroenterology at Vanderbilt.

Caroline graduated from The University of Alabama in Political Science and received her MA from The University of Alabama in Health Science.

Nikki Irvin Darley – Nikki is married to Beau Darley and they live in Birmingham, AL. Nikki graduated from Auburn University in Accounting and received her Masters in Accounting from The University of Alabama in Birmingham. She is a Tax Associate at Sellers, Richardson, Holman and West.

2005 Emma Swayne – Emma lives in Tuscaloosa, AL where she is the organist at St. Luke UMC. She is currently working on her MLIS degree.

David Shelley – David is married to Anna McLeane Shelley and they live in Homewood where David is attending UAB School of Medicine.

Robbie Champion – Robbie lives in Washington, DC where he works with Member and Guest Relations for the United States Senate. Robbie graduated from Maryville College in Political Science.

Bee Frederick and Ashlyn Stallings Meredith Gaston – Meredith just recently got married in November 2010 to Rush Stuart. He is from Marietta, Georgia and is also an Auburn graduate. They never ran into each other at school, but met while in China with Campus Crusade. Meredith and Susan Alley served in China together with Campus Crusade.

2006 Bee Frederick – Bee was the recipient of the John R. Mott Award from Samford University. Mr. Mott led an active and global life of service, received honorary degrees from eight distinguished universities, served in 73 countries and was decorated by 16 nations. This award was established by a friend in Birmingham to be presented to a man in the graduating class who represents high character, scholarship and student public service.

Ashlyn Stallings – Ashlyn was the recipient of the Gail Hyle Memorial Award from Samford University. Miss Hyle was a student leader, Miss Homecoming, cheerleader, etc. yet tragically died during her senior year at Samford in 1961. The Gail Hyle Memorial Award was established by her family. It is given annually to a woman in the graduating class who best exemplifies those outstanding qualities of Christian character, leadership, school spirit and service, which Hyle possessed in abundance.

The Trinity Annual Fund

W

e are pleased to announce the launch of Trinity’s 2010-2011 Annual Fund. This annual giving campaign affords the school many opportunities to enhance the quality of the student’s experience at every grade level and in every program. The funding priorities for this school year are: family tuition assistance, technology, classroom enhancements and program enhancements. Here is a quick overview of these areas: • Family Tuition Assistance – Trinity is committed to assisting students and families who demonstrate financial need. The school uses a tuition award process that requires income documentation which is incorporated into the tuition assistance calculation done by the Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST) organization to insure that the need is clearly justified.

• Technology – In today’s education process, Trinity must continually expand and update the utilization of technology to enhance teaching and learning. Some of our technology priorities include library data bases, teacher software, additional laptop computer carts and technical support.

We are pleased to announce a plan to implement a laptop learning program at Trinity in which families will lease a school issued laptop with Internet filtering software. Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, we will implement this 1:1 initiative program in the 7th and 9th grades.

• Classroom Enhancements – In order to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom, our faculty members must have regular access to software, equipment and other up-to-date educational resources.

• Program Enhancements – Trinity’s mission statement supports the development of the whole child, offering students opportunities to to develop their personal gifts and talents outside the classroom. Examples include arts, athletics, community service, field trips, guest speakers, clubs and organizations.

Although Trinity’s tuition covers the basic operational costs of the school, the Annual Fund gifts are essential in providing funding needed for additional priorities that are not capital in nature. Annual Fund gifts make these enhancements possible.

All Trinity constituents - alumni, parents, grandparents, parents of alumni, friends, businesses and foundations - are asked to support the Trinity Annual Fund. Your gifts may be designated to a specific area or unrestricted, allowing the school to use in the areas of most need. We are pleased to offer an additional giving option via the school’s website. Coach Randy Ragsdale became the first coach to win 200 games at a Montgomery school when the Wildcats defeated Montgomery Academy on October 22. Finishing his 22nd season at Trinity with a 203-58 record, Coach Ragsdale has won more football games than anyone at a Montgomery School.

Another Great Year for Trinity Varsity Volleyball The Varsity Volleyball Team was lead by three seniors, Lucy Johnson, Avery Windham, and Taylor Tylicki, 8 Juniors: Brittany Hendrick, Lauren Kendrick, Mary Fran Felder, Ellis Baxter, Laura Simoneau, Lauren Keiffer, Taylor Lollar, and Avery Draper, and 3 Sophomores, Marley Sport, Jacqueline Morris, and Ashley Ann Adams. They completed their season with a 32-20 record.

The Wildcats were Area and Region Tournament Runner-Up reaching the Elite Eight State Tournament in Pelham, Alabama for the sixth consecutive year. The major highlight of the Lady Wildcats Season occurred in the Regional Tournament when they defeated #1 ranked, and defending state champions Bayside Academy.
