History

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) was formed on 18 November 2010 through the merger of the University of Wales Lampeter (1822) and Trinity University College Carmarthen (1848), under Lampeter’s Royal Charter of 1828. On the 1 August 2013, Swansea Metropolitan University became part of UWTSD.

The UWTSD Group includes Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion as part of a dual sector group structure comprising further education colleges and the university.

The UWTSD Group has over 25,000 learners across 17 campuses in rural and city locations. Together we deliver clear, tangible benefits for learners, employers, industry and communities by offering a vocational approach from entry level to postdoctoral research. The Group will be further strengthened with the merger of University of Wales into UWTSD in due course.

Historically the University and its founding institutions have placed their degreeawarding powers in abeyance and offered degrees of the University of Wales. UWTSD began to award its own degrees in July 2014.

The University’s London campus, or ‘UWTSD London’, has been operational since March 2012. It was originally located in Islington, however, in October 2013 it relocated within Kennington Park and near the Oval cricket grounds in the heart of London.

UWTSD London is located within Kennington Business Park which is situated at the intersection of Brixton Road and Camberwell New Road. Oval tube station (Northern line) is a 150m walk away providing direct access to Waterloo, London Bridge and The City. There are also numerous bus links direct into The City and Victoria (as well as to Peckham, New Cross and Brixton, which offer a good choice of reasonably priced accommodation to rent).

The Business Park is adjacent to Kennington Park, a large public park and gardens which hosts a wide variety of events and also offers sports facilities, including tennis, basketball, netball, skateboarding, a fitness trail, and allweather floodlit ‘Astroturf’ for football and hockey.

The Oval Cricket ground is a five minute walk from the University campus, is home to Surrey Cricket Club and was the venue for the first test match between Australia and England. Though Lords is considered the home of Cricket- the Oval has played an integral part in the history of the game and visitors to the ground can enjoy one of the best preserved Sports arenas in England.

Health and Social Care The programme has the following general educational and specific aims: The Health and Social Care (BSc) (Hons) is designed for progression from the Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education Skills for the Workplace (Health and Social Care).

This MBA is aimed at students who may aspire to a career or role in banking and finance in the UK or overseas.

This will include the review, development and reflection of a range of high level entrepreneurial capabilities and competences that are relevant in entrepreneurial situations, in all types of organization contexts. The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is a professional doctorate which provides a structured programme of study through the delivery of taught modules, closely integrated with an individual’s professional career development.

It will also equip students with the skills and knowledge to conduct advanced research into a variety of marketing management issues whilst focusing on the interrelationship of marketing management and organisational performance.

The programme has two parts, and is composed of taught modules and a doctoral-level work-based research project.

The element of reflection on professional practice distinguishes the professional doctorate from the award of a PhD.

Criteria CertHE Skills for the Workplace and CertHE Skills for the Workplace (Health and Social Care) Entry onto the programme is by individual merit.

Mature Candidates – experience can often be taken into consideration in lieu of formal qualifications. Grades are important; however, our offers are not solely based on academic results.

We are interested in creative people that demonstrate a strong commitment to their chosen subject area and therefore we welcome applications from individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.

To assess student suitability for their chosen course we normally arrange interviews for all applicants at which your skills, achievements and life experience will be considered as well as your qualifications.

A wide range of international qualifications which are equivalent to two A-Level passes, including International Baccalaureate and European Baccalaureate are recognised. The University will normally accept students who have completed a recognised International Foundation Programme, for example, those offered by UK Further Education Colleges, Universities, and Colleges of Higher Education.

The applicants may have to pass the written test and the interview with one of our academics to be accepted onto the programme.

English language proficiency at or exceeding an average IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent in any other approved test), with no score less than 5.5 in any components of the test.

BA (Hons) Leadership and Management Skills for the Workplace

MBA

Successful completion of Level 4 CertHE Skills for the Workplace (120 credits).

BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care Successful completion of Level 4 CertHE Skills for the Workplace (Health and Social Care) (120 credits).

DBA The normal minimum entrance requirement for applicants for candidature for professional doctorates is a master’s degree with a Merit classification or an overall mark of a minimum of 60% in an area relevant to the doctoral programme, awarded by the UK or other recognised University or higher education institution, or by the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA). English Language requirement for international students applying to complete the DBA programme in London on a 4-year basis.

Proficiency in English of candidates whose first language is not English is at or exceeding an average IELTS score (or equivalent in any other approved test) of 6.0 with no lower than 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Normally, the possession of a minimum of a 2:2 UK first degree or an equivalent international qualification recognised by UK ENIC or work experience of five years at a senior managerial level in lieu of first degree.
