Hi there and welcome to the Lampeter campus of Trinity Saint David! My name is Mattias Eken and I’m this years Student Union President.

Lampeter is one of the most special and friendly university campuses you will ever find.

After nearly five years here I have resisted the urge to return to my native Sweden (aka IKEA-land) on many occasions thanks to the people I met and friends I made while studying here.

Lampeter is situated in the county of Ceredigion in west Wales.

The town is located in the beautiful welsh countryside with loads of great walks and outdoor life opportunities nearby.

It has regular public transport links to the towns of Aberystwyth and Carmarthen.

There is plenty to see and do in and around Lampeter as the town is home to several small businesses, pubs and restaurants as well as the activity that the university brings.

Lampeter has a leisure centre and a swimming pool with free student swimming access and an active town council that creates a friendly and close knit community feel.

You are never far from getting your necessities as Lampeter has two supermarkets: Sainsbury’s and the Cooperative, these are within walking distance of the campus.

The majority of first years are guaranteed accommodation in halls, so there is no need to panic about trying to find a house!

The halls range in price from roughly £68 to £87.50 a week . the price difference depends on whether you choose en-suite or non-ensuite rooms, or if you want catered or uncatered halls. All bills are included in the price, including internet use!

Hall life can be a major benefit to the start of your university life. It introduces you to lots of different people and helps you make friends quickly; it also means that you are located on campus so you never miss out on what’s happening!

Living in halls is also beneficial for your personal safety. There are hall wardens, who are hired by the university to go around the halls every night and make sure everyone is safe and happy, as well as our on-call security who work 24/7 for your benefit.

Hall life also means you do not have to travel far for what you need, there are laundry facilities near the halls, and there are cleaners for each hall who make sure your cooking experiments do not attract local wildlife, not to mention the students union is close-by for your mail and your entertainment!

If you aren’t keen on the sharing halls scene, then rented accommodation is definitely for you! There are a number of properties around the locality that accept student tenants!

There are various ranges in price as well as room numbers per house/flat, so you can choose exactly what is right for you.

There are no letting agents in town however, so the best ways to go about finding off campus accommodation is the phone/email the Students Union’s welfare officer to get a housing list, as well as some nifty tips on how to find housing in the area!

The benefits of living off campus means that you can live whichever way you like, you don’t have to follow anyone else’s rules – but you do have more responsibility. You can also live slightly out of town if you like the quiet life.

As stage manager I work very hard to make sure that students get what they want, I train student DJs and help students run their own club nights – this means there’s a variety of nights throughout the year, meaning there will definitely be something for you, regardless of your taste! My personal highlight was playing nothing but 80s cheese!

Being a sm all town, Lampeter has not got hundreds of club s t hat you can hit up when you aren’t hitt ing the b ooks, but what it lacks in num ber of v enues it m akes up for in atm osphere. The b enefit ch mu a it’s at th is a are r alle sm a g ein b f o safer envir onm ent, and you are never too f ar from t he student union’s bar and night cl ub.

Flirt nights are one of the busiest in Lampeter, it brings out a variety of people because there’s different themes that can appeal to everyone, I love my job, it’s awesome!

The Night Time Service is here for anything a student may need in the middle of the night: a cup of tea (camomile and builders type!), contraceptives, help/advice, somewhere quiet to study or just a good ol’ chat and some company.

We also have a telephone number students can reach us on if they’d rather not come up.

The Night Time Service is manned by a group of dedicated accommodating fellow students and most importantly: we’re confidential.

There are student led schemes like ‘Rooting For Change’ a project inspired by the NUS ‘Be A Champion’ Campaign, which raises money to plant cashew nut trees in Bore in Kenya.

These trees give the farmers a crop that they can harvest year after year, making a massive positive change to their lives and the surrounding community.

The other service the welfare officer organises is the ‘welfare team’. A brand new volunteering group, where twenty student volunteers promote welfare awareness campaigns to the student body, distribute campaign materials, and aid the Welfare Officer in running campaigns and fundraisers.

As LGBT officer I get a lot of personal satisfaction from helping other students with their individual issues – and the association socials are great fun! Student Ser vices is the network of helpful departments in the university that are the re to support students during their degree s. These ar e some of the things student services offer;

- There is help with finance, with access to bursaries as well as the financial contingency fund that any student can a pply for in their time of need.

- There is an accommodation departmen t, for any troubles students have in halls - There is a counselling service for studen ts who need someone to talk to and conf ide in - There is the mental health advisory serv ice that provides suppor t for students w ho are struggling - There is a careers service, to help stud ents plan for their time after graduation - There is study skills suppor t, for stude nts who are finding organising their wo rk difficult and just need a little bit of guidan ce - There is learning support for students who may be disadvantaged by certain conditions like dyslexia and dyspr axia - There is help for international studen ts who have different needs.

There is security on campus 24/7. There is a phone number to call them directly, or you can go see them in the reception of the Old Building.

Hall Wardens

There are hall wardens who are on call for students who are having a problem. They also make patrols through the halls at night.
