HISTORY

In 2010, after many years of discussion, Mairead and Sean Clifford, Victoria and Justin Gmelich, and many others began the journey of starting an independent, all-girls high school in Monmouth County, an educational option they felt was long overdue. Tens of thousands of hours were spent conducting extensive research and creating a plan to start the school. In September 2013, we opened our doors to an inaugural ninth grade class in a temporary location in Leonardo, NJ. After spending three years in Leonardo, Trinity Hall moved to our new, permanent location at the former Fort Monmouth in Tinton Falls. On June 4, 2017, thirty-two students in the Class of 2017 become the first graduates of Trinity Hall.

Trinity Hall is an innovative, independent all-girls college preparatory high school educating and empowering young women in the Catholic tradition. Trinity Hall’s core values of leadership, respect, perseverance, and faith are foundational to our mission and work as educators.

In a technology-rich learning environment, a superior faculty and a challenging interdisciplinary curricular program fosters leadership, respect, perseverance, and faith.

Unique and exciting co-curricular learning opportunities accommodate a diverse, yet a collectively passionate, creative, and caring student body. These young women will be empowered to take risks, pursue personal passions, network globally, and grow as learners – and as valued individuals.

THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear Friends and Family of Trinity Hall, When we opened in 2013, we knew our young women would have an educational experience like no other. The academic program designed by faculty, all highly credentialed from prestigious institutions, implemented a high school curriculum based on educational innovation and design-based research.

The learning environment created at Trinity Hall is one where girls learn best! We are proud of our students, our faculty, and the Board of Trustees.

We have held fast to the mission set forth by the founders: to educate and empower the young women enrolled here and instill in them the school’s core values of leadership, respect, perseverance, and faith. That first year was a wonderful experience of collaboration between the students, the faculty, the school leadership, and the Board of Trustees. Each year the Trinity Hall community continues to grow as we refine the program, initiate traditions, and develop new courses and co-curricular activities that prepare our young women for the next step. Supporters like you, who have joined us as the years progressed, have made that growth possible.

The generosity of our donors has allowed Trinity Hall to meet the financial needs of our applicants. About a quarter of our students are financially supported through funds given for financial aid and scholarship. We are a diverse population, drawing students from many different towns and economic backgrounds. We provide opportunity for many underserved girls and support their full participation at Trinity Hall. Our tuition and fees are inclusive and allow every student to have the resources to learn to their fullest potential. Our donors – our benefactors – have made this possibility a reality. We thank you, our students thank you, and the community thanks you.

Our inaugural class was full of pioneers - girls with an adventurous spirit who were willing to take a risk on a brand new school. These high-achieving girls learned what it means to be “comfortably

challenged,” to work beyond what they believed their potential to be, and how to learn and grow from their failures. They navigated their high school years with no upper class students to guide them, and accepted their status as role models for the girls who came in after them. They led, as we knew they would, and will continue to lead others in college and beyond.

One hundred percent of our first cohort of alumnae are matriculating at four-year colleges and universities this fall. The graduates were awarded over $3.1 million in academic meritbased scholarships and more than a third enrolled in STEM programs. These alumnae are high-level athletes, artists, and scholars, many enrolled in honors programs, and many future engineers. Four years is a long time to wait to see the end result of this ambitious project, Trinity Hall. The vision of our founders, the aspiration of our Board, the strategy of our administration, the diligence of our faculty… all resulted in the sparkling success of our Class of 2017. We knew they could do it and we know they will accomplish great things.

Trinity Hall is vision-driven, process-oriented, and dedicated to serving the young women of Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean counties. Trinity Hall has transformed the landscape of schools in these areas as we challenge other schools to innovate, design, and comfortably challenge their students. We are challenged to grow and innovate as we inspire each other to be the very best. Saint Francis of Assisi says it best : “For it is in giving that we receive.”

SUMMER Caroline Gmelich ’17 made the Olympic trial cut time in the 100 meter backstroke long course.

Isabelle Pabon ’17 competed as a member of The United States Lifesaving Association National in Sanyo Bussan International Lifesaving Cup at Aoshima Beach in Japan.

Erica O’Kelly ’17 played soccer in the 2016 Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) U16 National Championships.

SEPTEMBER Trinity Hall began its fourth year in its new, permanent location in Tinton Falls with a Mass.

159 students in four grades began the 2016-2017 school year on September 7.

All students participated in overnight trips the first week of school.

OCTOBER Trinity Hall was awarded a $10,000 grant by OceanFirst Foundation to fund the creation of a digital pop-up studio.

The Monmouth County Clerk and Trinity Hall parent, Christine Giordano Hanlon, presented her program “Your Vote Matters!” to the Class of 2017. This program aims to educate students about voting which includes how to register to vote, how to vote by mail, and other topics.

Fifteen students and faculty built homeless shelters and spent the night sleeping outdoors at Cardboard Box City.

Over 30 students and faculty walked, donated food, and passed out water to participants at the Red Bank Crop Walk.

Trinity Hall students and faculty celebrated the International Day of the Girl with presentations and samples of cuisines from Ethiopia, Peru, and India.

More than 500 people attended Trinity Hall’s first Open House.

Trinity Hall was awarded accreditation from the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The 2016-2017 Student Government Core Council of Chloe Toole ’17 (Student Body President), Abby Marcin ’17 (Student Body Vice President) and Class Presidents Lily Scott ‘17, Kailin Burns Cohen ‘18, Kathyrn Ortenzio ‘19, and Colleen Kelly ’20 was elected by the student body.

Allie Witek ‘20 and Elizabeth Witek ‘20 were accepted into the prestigious Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir.

NOVEMBER Faculty and students attended Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway.

The Queen’s Court Company directed and produced three performances of The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet.

The Trinity Hall cross country team placed second at the Nonpublic B Group State Championships.

Erica O’Kelly ‘17 and Katie Valsamedis ‘17 were named to the Prep B second team for soccer.

Four student-athletes participated in the first NCAA National Letter of Intent Signing Day at Trinity Hall. Caroline Gmelich ’17, Erica O’Kelly ’17, Isabelle Pabon ’17, and Malia Wolf ’17 signed their national letters of intent which served as a binding agreement between student-athletes and their collegiate sports programs.

DECEMBER Bishop David M. O’Connell C.M. celebrated an Advent Mass with students, faculty, staff, our board of trustees, and parents. While on campus, he toured the school and spoke to students in their classes.

Volunteers from the Trinity Hall and Christian Brothers Academy chapters of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) gathered to prep a fundraising feast in support of our United States armed forces and the Dennis W. Zilinksi II Memorial Fund.

Students created fleece blankets, collected toiletries, and donated children’s gifts for over 80 local families. Many students and faculty volunteered with Holiday Express and donated food to the Barn for the Poorest of the Poor.

The Campus Social Life Council transformed the Commons into a winter wonderland for over 176 students who attended the first on-campus winter semi-formal.

Holly Koerwer ‘17 led a STEM event, Hand-a-Thon, for more than sixty-five middle school students. Using pieces printed on the school’s 3D printers, the students collaborated to build and donate ten prosthetic hand devices for children.

JANUARY Courtney Vadon hosted local second-grade Girl Scout troops to teach them the basic fundamentals of coding as part of the Stanford University She++ Fellowship Program. They explored algorithms and applied their knowledge to guide Sphero robots through a maze.

The Trinity Hall swimming team is the Monmouth County Co-Champions.

Alessandra Sanfratello ’17 led the Make and Shake Workshop for local eighth grade students to introduce computer programming to the participants, who programmed and built a dance video game using Makey Makey kits.

The Creative Arts Council produced an Improv Night.

The Trinity Hall Parents Association hosted the first annual Father-Daughter Bowling Night.

FEBRUARY The Classes of 2017 and 2018 received their school rings during a ceremony attended by students and families.

Trinity Hall unveiled a new athletics logo.

The winter track team placed first at the NJ Catholic Track Championships B Division.

Lily Scott ‘17 signed her binding agreement to swim for Bates College.

Jackie Fletcher ’18 and Abigail Devine ’19 took second place in the JV Public Forum competition at the NJSDA Speech and Debate Tournament.

The swim team won the NJSIAA Non-Public B State Championships, the NJISAA (Prep) B Division State Championships, and the Shore Conference Championships.

MARCH Trinity Hall hosted Accepted Students Day for the Class of 2021.

Students learned over 400 pages of music for the threeshow run of Suessical the Musical.

Pallavi Kawatra ‘17 and Madison Huber ’19 were honored with the Distinguished Delegates Award at the 2017 Philadelphia Model United Nations.

Caroline Gmelich ‘17 won the 100 Backstroke at the New Jersey Meet of Champions.

Sarah Frankel ’17 starred in CBA’s production of The Music Man along with Shannon Smith ’20 and Sarah Maes ’20. Lilly McCann ’17, Brenna Dowd ’17, and Brianne Dwyer ’17 worked behind the scenes.

Caroline Gmelich ’17, Lauren Joyce ’18, Isabelle Pabon ’17, Lily Scott ’17, Malia Wolf ’17, and Katie Wright ’20 were named first team All-Shore by the Asbury Park Press.

Trinity Hall students and faculty visited fifteen sites during the annual Service Day. 9

APRIL More than 600 people attended the 2017 Gala at Cipriani Wall Street. The Gala honored Goldman Sachs Gives and Justin Gmelich and raised funds to support Trinity Hall’s capital campaign.

For her engineering capstone project, Isabelle Pabon ‘17 created a service design product to raise money to support one girl’s education at the WISER school in Kenya.

Grace Modderman ’17 wrote the winning essay for the American Association of University Women Northern Ocean County Branch contest.

Meteorologist Erica Grow from NBC New York spoke to our students about her journey to becoming an on-air meteorologist and the opportunities for women in STEM as part of the Women in Leadership Speaker Series.

All seniors on the Swim Team were named Academic All-Americans.

The Spring Sailing team made their Varsity debut.

Caroline Gmelich ’17 was named All-American for being one of the top 100 high school swimmers in the 100 Backstroke.

MAY Over 200 attendees joined the junior class for an afternoon of networking and inspiration from Rook Coffee founder Holly Migliaccio at the second annual Leading Ladies Luncheon.

Caroline Gmelich ’17 represented Trinity Hall at the NJSIAA Awards as the school’s scholarathlete nominee.

Lily Scott ’17 was Trinity Hall’s recipient of the Shore Conference Senior Sportsmanship Award.

Trinity Hall students volunteered at the 6th Annual Mary’s Place by the Sea Walkathon to act as guides along the route. The walk benefits the mission to help women with cancer heal: mind, body and soul.

Priya Verma ’20 won the US Squash Pro Sports Junior Girls Under 17 Gold Tournament in Seattle, Washington.

Trinity Hall Sailing team competed in the 2017 NJISA Girls State Championships.

JUNE The officials of the Shore Conference selected the Trinity Hall lacrosse team as the recipient of the Monmouth County Sportsmanship Award.

Alex Principe ‘18 and Cate Toomey ‘18 received an award from the Edison Invention Challenge for designing a solar powered keyboard programmed to assist the hearing impaired experience rhythms of music.

Caroline Gmelich ’17 was named The Asbury Park Press APP Swimmer of the Year.

Trinity Hall graduated its first class on June 4, 2017.

Abigail Devine ’19 and Anna Phillips ’19 were recognized as Metro Scholars at Two River Theatre.

Brigid Clifford ’18 was named to the US Lacrosse All-Academic Team.

Fifteen students traveled to Costa Rica and twenty-five students traveled to Paris, Normandy, and Barcelona.

BOARD CHAIR Dear Trinity Hall Community, As I look back over these past four years, I am humbled to see how far we, as a community, have come. When Trinity Hall began with only thirty-two girls in September 2013, we dared not think about ourselves four years into the future. Yet, this year, we opened our doors to a student body of 201! Since inception, being one of the founders and the former vice chair of our board, I have helped shape our unique vision and have been committed to ensuring our success. Now as board chair, I assure you that what we started four years ago continues and remains strong.

We are achieving our mission of educating and empowering young women and preparing them to be lifelong learners and community advocates. I am honored to serve in this position and I thank former board chair Sean Clifford and the founding board for laying the foundation. But most important, I thank you, our donors and supporters, for helping us get this far.

At Trinity Hall we have reached milestones with everything we have done from academics to athletics to the arts. We have set the standard for all the young ladies who will follow. But our most extraordinary milestone will always be graduating the first class of girls this past June. These thirty-two girls have had hundreds of memorable moments. They have set, achieved, and surpassed goals and continue to have aspirations for greater things in the future. We called them pioneers and leaders four years ago; now we call them alumnae. They are college students in great programs throughout the country and we thank these girls and their families for paving the way.

To date, our most challenging step of the process was to find a permanent location. While we all may breathe a collective sigh of relief knowing we are in our permanent home, there is more work to be done. We knew that our first phase had to be completed with expedience in order to house our present population of girls as we had outgrown our temporary space. Now, the time has come to add on to our building. We take pride in the state-ofthe-art school which was only finished a little over a year ago.

Next, thanks to the success of our gala this past spring, we have the funds to “finish off our home� adding all the space necessary to continue our spectacular academic programs.

In April, we honored Justin Gmelich and Goldman Sachs Gives for their extreme generosity and commitment to charitable work.

The community of Trinity Hall has enjoyed being the recipient of hundreds of gifts to make our school a success. The gala was a celebration of our community. The energy in the room was palpable as you all reached deep in order to help us continue our vision. Our honoree matched funds 2:1 in brick and mortar dollars so that we have the funds to finish our project. Rest assured though, we have set aside financial aid and scholarship dollars for future classes. We at Trinity Hall stand by our mission with a simple set of beliefs of leadership, respect, perseverance, and faith to make this all-girls education available to all young women. TRINITY HALL GALA On April 7, 2017 Trinity Hall honored Goldman Sachs Gives and Justin Gmelich at Cipriani Wall Street. The 2017 Gala was co-chaired by Abby and Kevin Kelly and Christine and Shawn Reynolds. Through a donor-advised fund, Goldman Sachs’ employees recommend grants to qualifying nonprofit organizations to help them achieve their goals.

Trinity Hall has received more than $3M in grants from GS Gives. Justin Gmelich’s dedication to Trinity Hall is evident in his role as one of our four founders, in his generous philanthropic support of our school, and in his commitment to foster relationships with donors.

More than $2,000,000 was raised before and during the event in support of Trinity Hall’s capital campaign and plans for prudent growth of Trinity Hall.

Victoria and Justin Gmelich announced their pledge to match 2:1 every dollar raised. Trinity Hall began plans to build a two-story addition to the school that will more than double our space.

Valedictory Address Holly Koerwer, Class of 2017 Valedictorian, is a member of the United States Naval Academy Class of 2021. Here are excerpts from her Valedictory Address: It is truly an honor to speak on behalf of the 31 women with whom I have had the privilege to spend the past four years. As I acknowledge that privilege I must also address the fact that these years at Trinity Hall have been a far greater gift than many of us could have ever imagined. This day is the culmination of countless hours and efforts from so many people who wished for nothing less than each of our individual successes, and for this we are all forever grateful. We stand before you today as a direct result of the time, talent, and treasure you gave. It is our hope as a founding class that we took the opportunity we were given and made the most out of every single moment… …The hall of Trinity Hall fosters a unique spirit that cannot be contained, and I am truly blessed to have been able to grow and find myself in that hallway. It is my hope that every other student to come finds the happiest memories and the most engaging challenges in that hallway we have come to call our home… …The class of 2017 has Trinity Hall’s back. As the beginnings of the alumnae association we are still a part of Trinity Hall’s future and we will strive to be the best advocates for the lessons and values instilled in us at this school… …The opportunity to attend Trinity Hall for many of us was a surprise decision. However, what began as uncertainty has now cemented us in history with one another. I am so thankful for these four years with this community and I know in the future our loyalty to what has been built here will always bring us back to the hall where we learned, laughed, built, and loved. Thank you for this once in a lifetime opportunity and I look forward to everything that we will accomplish in the future…

COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS Sean Clifford, Trinity Hall co-founder, former board chair, and parent, addressed the Class of 2017. Here are some excerpts from his commencement address: The story of the founding of Trinity Hall is a story of perseverance and dedication. It is a story that belongs to everyone in this room. This community shared a vision of coming together to embrace something much more powerful than any single person or ideal. Graduates, as you look to the future, find inspiration in the school’s core values of Leadership, Respect, Perseverance and Faith. Embed these values into the core of who you are. Start today. There is no reason to wait. You will be better for it and happier as a result.

Leadership - I stand here knowing you will continue to challenge conventional thought.

You will be bold, you will light a fire in your own hearts and you will do great things.

Respect – Respect for oneself, one’s family and the importance of nurturing those relationships is what matters. In the end, the success of our lives will not be determined by what we have accumulated but rather on the quality of our relationships.

Perseverance – The mistake itself is less important than owning it and the lesson you learned.

Faith - Faith is the knitting that enables us to step-up to lead when needed, to persevere when times are rough and to respect yourself and others. It is the inner core deep within each of us and it is really comforting to stay in touch with it as often as you can.

Do not think of today as the end of one journey or the beginning of the next. Consider it an opportunity to reflect on your wonderful achievements to date. Your life does not restart when you enter college in September.

Continue your life’s journey with pride knowing you have changed the world for the better.

Take comfort in knowing that everyone here in this room is wholeheartedly behind you and believes in you. Believe in yourself. Do not wait.

Start being you right now. Continue to be bold, to be leaders and take risks. Stoke the fire in your hearts and do not ever stop caring.

Thank you Trinity Hall Class of 2017 for paving the way forward.
